Dumb question about PMs

Pardon me if I sound stupid, but I have an question regarding sending personal messages to another members in this board.

When I send a PM to someone, immediately after, I can see it in the ''outbox'' folder, and a copy of it remains there for some time. Sometime later (it can last days, I think) and (it seems to me) after the member you sent the message to logs in and sees the message, it dissapears from the ''Outbox'' folder.

So, are the facts related, or they have nothing to do with each other? If a message dissapears from the outbox, it means that it has been read, or at least open, by the member you sent it to?

I have a strong suspect that this is the case, but I'm not sure, so I thought someone who knows more about how the forum works (maybe a member of the staff) may be able to answer this. That is why I am creating this thread to ask for help.

Would make sense, I guess. Perhaps that's how phpBB works - the PM is kept in your outbox until it's actually been read by the recipient. Or that's just to inform the sender that the recipient hasn't yet opened the PM, by keeping it in the senders outbox.

That is essentially how it works. Sent messages will appear in either your Outbox or your Sent Messages folder. As long as the recipient(s) have not yet read the message, it will stay in the Outbox. As soon as someone reads the message it will be archived to the Sent Messages folder. It's just the standard way phpBB works.
