No, in the original image Gohan is more far away, and obviously has that ugly short hair. In the sketch of metalwario he is more closer to the camera and has the hair more big (but not as he should look), for me being closer to the camera isn't better, is different. The one who has better proportions is Piccolo, the Piccolo of the original coverart is awful.

By the way, for those who know the DB Characters Project, most of the "New generation" images which we take to do our vectors, have errors like this, and we usually fix all of them. They usually do stupid errors like that.

- Do film critics in Japan review Anime films that are based off TV series? If so, then what do you think the chances are of Battle of Gods being a genuinely good movie, as well as being a good DBZ movie? I'd say pretty low, but it's a nice thought.

- How do you think BOG will perform compared to other Anime movies based off TV series? Not just One Piece but also like, I dunno, Naruto?

I really hate the modern Dragon Ball style. I much prefer the '90s artwork. As such, I decided to make a sketch in the closest style I could to the old '90s artworks:

Also, why is everyone's hair so freaking short in the modern styles? Is really short hair in style in Japan now or something? It makes their faces look bloated or something, and Gohan looks like he's balding. Although, I've noticed this in a some Kai artwork as well, but Goku usually has really tall and thin hair... It makes him look like a Christmas tree or something.

The latest Naruto movie, Road to Ninja, made $17.2 million. One Piece Film Z made $72.1 million. I'd say Battle of Gods will be lucky to make seventeen-ish million. Although, if it makes as much as Naruto we might be able to see a higher budget for the next film.

Also, the movie has been constantly featured in CinemaToday's top 50 movies so I guess that has to count for something.

Yeah I have to agree. Why the heck is Vegeta in his Saiyan armor? Didn't he give up on Saiyan tradition in the Buu arc? I like the good ol' saiyan armor as much as the next guy but it seems off continuity-wise.

There is nothing off about it. Even if he wanted to wear it for his battles in the Buu Arc, all the chaos started at the tournament, where he wouldn't be allowed to wear it...

The film has quite a hole it needs to dig itself and the great image of the franchise out of, hence my caution. The film probably cost five or six million dollars to produce, too, so that has to be taken into account.

- Disappointed yet not surprised it was just non-spoiler promo stuff; hopes now pinned on vjump for Thursday.

Box office rakings
-I echo the sentiments of probably around if a bit less than the latest Naruto movie; no series, no matter how classic, is capable of even touching One Piece in Japan right now. OP is an institution at this point. I do hope the movie performs well though so it may encourage Toei to try more new stories with the cast.

Critics
-Only one that matters to me is myself. Even if BOG turns out to be kinda meh, I am sure it can't be as bad as DBE.

Will the movie be any good?
-I need more spoilers before I can properly theorize about that, but what I've seen so far looks fun.

I like the hair Metalwario drew for Goku, Gohan and Vegeta, the rest reminds me of what we call "amerimanga", that is, americans trying to draw manga... just look at Trunks and Goten's faces and Goku's bust, those remind me more of an X-Men comic than a Dragon Ball manga...
And what's up with Vegeta's armor? Everyone like to remind old better times; Wolverine wearing the brown/yellow suit, Superman wearing pants again, Spider-Man wearing the classic red/blue suit again, Cyclops with hood... because the classic is always better and they look more badass, like Goku with those japanese symbols in the chest and back and Vegeta with his saiyan armor.

At the very least, I acknowledge I messed up Trunks' face. I also admit the style has my own slight touch to it. That's kinda how I've been drawing Dragon Ball things for the past 5 years or so, I kinda have slightly sharper, elongated faces for the adult males, though it's kinda a subconscious thing, as I've said it's kinda my style slipping into my art.

When I've got some time, I might try to do a high resolution line art (and maybe even color) with some touch ups, and I'll reference some older 90's material to help my adjustments.
