Well, speaking personally, my opinion on this matter was already settled during the initial Toonami run of the series. None of the transformations beyond the first Super Saiyan transformation really captured my imagination, indeed if anything, I thought most of them were pretty silly to be honest. Also, I've never cared about the plotholes in the series either...

I think the ending is fine where it is. I know a popular opinion is that the series should have ended with Freeza because Goku finally becomes the "legendary Super Saiyan" and all that jazz but to be honest his first transformation to a SSJ wasn't all that spectacular to me. Not only that but "Super Saiyan" wasn't even a thing until the middle of the fight with the Ginyu force it's not like turning SSJ was Goku's goal since he was little which is why I was more impacted by Vegeta going Super than Goku.

So in short I think if Dragon Ball had indeed ended at the Freeza saga it would have left a lot to be desired.
It's not too late. One day, it will be.

I think people forget the darn good time they have watching the series. While the plot holes may be glaring at times the series is fun to watch. I also fail to see how the Android arc was inferior to the Freeza saga to the point of disapproval. IMO the android arc is the best. The Buu arc is nowhere near as bad as people want to believe =/. While I do think it is the most poorly written arc in the series, the character development and humor make up for it. I am quite frankly astonished that people consider the idea that it should have ended after the Freeza arc. It just wouldn't be the same. I more than likely wouldn't consider this series the greatest anime/manga had it ended there.

I know I'm definitely following this movie with the kind of excitement I haven't felt since early days (the closest recent one would be the Jump Special; that was a blast; arguably also the year 801 plot-point which that tugged at my heartstrings like mad) and it's such a fun ride.

What I really like about the latest trailer is how it highlights some of the silly stuff (Karaoke Piccolo, Tracksuit Goku, Thrusting Gohan, and Children Pilaf Gang); in fact, I would bet the Bingo Game is a combination of dangerous and silly. I also feel like they may be using the term "Bingo" as a game title and not actually mean the lottery-game itself. Bingo is catchier than calling it a game of chance I guess?

Since we are closer to the release soon, how excited is everyone so far? I'm still looking forward to it, but I think the movie could end up sucking. I think if the movie sucks then we are going to have a big flame war in this thread. With every franchise, if the movie or game sucks then you have people flaming each other on if it was good or not.

I'm really excited. At first I was neutral toward it but with the back stories and SSJ God in the mix this seems like a great movie.

I'm pretty excited myself, and while I'm still a little 'eh' on the concept of the Super Saiyan God, I'm still thinking this is going to be a great addition to the DBZ...'mythology', for lack of a better word. It's probably easily going to be the best of the films at any rate.

I'm also very excited for this. It looks like it's going to be the best movie! :D
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

This. Except while I'm still debating on whether I like the idea of the new form (or maybe even character since we have no details), I'm extremely curious what they are going to do with it. So, I'm still excited about Super Saiyan God in a way too.

Exactly. Personally the only two place where could have ended was just right after 23rd Budokai and at the end of the Cell saga. Goku was gone during the Frieza arc so he needed to come back and show is new technique.... and Trunks... and the future. C'mon, would you really give up the amazing plot of the Bad Future?? It gave a more darker spin to the series that I simply loved.

The Artificial Human and Imperfect Cell Sagas are my favorite story arcs in DBZ (especially in anime format).... although I concede that it's not the best, and I agree with fogdark.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

Dragon Ball Z Power Push, I think this is a TV thing that they're using to promote Battle of Gods. Not sure what this involves, since I think it is separate to the movies being rebroadcast, but apparently Shoko Nakagawa, Kaoru Matsumoto and Masako Nozawa are involved somehow...perhaps they're presenting it or something. :?

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm definitely excited to see what's going on with the form. I'm just a little more reserved since it could have some serious implications about where Z ends (the whole Uub thing), not to mention GT if one did want that to count, depending on how they handle it. Either way though, once I get to see how awesome it is, I'm sure I'll forgot all about all that stuff even if only temporarily.

With all the talk about where Dragon Ball Z should have ended I've been thinking. I don't know how good the movie's gonna be, but I have high hopes... and maybe the ending of the movie is the true ending of the series. The point where it should've ended :p Maybe somehow the movie is going to tie everything together and give us the most satisfactory ending ever :p

I dunno, just a thought :p

The original ending with Goku going to train Oob is a great ending. I really don't see why people want DB ending to be the ending of the adventures.

I too have high hopes for this movie as well, particularly after reading Toriyama's comments. It sounds like he genuinely enjoyed both working on it and seeing the final product.
By the way, the battle scenes in the second half are particularly overwhelming! I was moved because the presentation exceeded my expectations.

I like the ending too. At first I hated it with a passion but that was before I realized the symbolism of it all. It's a passing of the torch. Goku won't be around forever and there needs to be someone to defend Earth. It also acts as an epilogue saying there are more adventures to come. The ending is very Dragon Ball. This movie will likely symbolize the end of Goku's adventures, through obtaining a power that cannot be surpassed meaning there are no more limits for Goku to break, but not the series'.
