But, yeah, I'm gonna second Herms' little suggestion about perhaps stating exactly why certain people want these things translated, since it helps give a reason for why we should do it. I mean, I'm seeing a lot of these "Someone translate this about Vegetto" or something else, and it tends to make me think straight away that someone just wants an argument for a "Z'OMG, Power Levels" thing. I might just be coming off cynical here, but I can't help but notice this rise in interest about Vegetto's power after the Death Battle thing...

I'd like to think anyone and everyone who's been a hardcore DB fan would like to know about something that was probably supposed to be known before but never was until now. Vegetto being said to have powers surpassing that of SSJ4 is something that was pretty much unthought of to even be considered in official supplementary material. I can see why anyone would be interested in it, and if it's really a true statement said in the guidebooks or whatever.

Oke , so I was arguing about Vegeta being near death or not. I have one page which I want to know , can someone translate this what 17 says? :

It's pretty hard to see for sure if Vegeeta would actually be close to death, though, in case you're trying to argue he should have gotten his "post near-death power up" thing. We only have 17's word for it, and he could be exaggerating a little. Oh, sure, if they were left alone long enough, the guys probably woulda died, but I'm just pointing out that it's just 17 saying it. If Vegeeta perhaps said it himself that he was close to death, then it'd be a little more objective.

That's exactly how I view it. Their injuries were crap compared to the ones we've seen prior that actually preceded a near-death power-up. At worst, Vegeta's arm would've become infected and he'd have died slowly, but that's at worst and would take days.

Burta's mother was very strict, making him do all the household chores and slapping him if he was late preparing dinner, but because of this he became the fastest in the universe. Recoom practiced dance, which is how he got his agility and various battle poses. When Ginyu first learned of his Change ability, he swapped bodies with the richest kid in his class. This made him popular with girls, but also stupid, and he realized that men should compete in terms of strength (rather than money, it's implied). Jhees was a pitcher in the Galactic Little League, and it was there that he developed the Crusher Ball as his special technique. Ghurd realized he had psychic powers as a kid; he was a real brat, using his powers to lift up girls' skirts and steal whatever toys he wanted.

...Don't ask me why the other people on Ginyu and Ghurd's planet's don't look like them...

Not so much a question asking for a translation. But, it's something I've been thinking about recently.

In Japanese we have the サイヤ人 or the Saiyans... But, considering this comes from 野菜 or Yasai, with サイヤ (Saiya) being an anagram of Vegetable. Wouldn't a fully adapted term in English of it be something along the lines of "Blevegetan"?
Sounds like something Viz would do, haha. But, figured I'd ask about it.

(Honestly, that's the sorta thing I'd do, the way I translate things, but sometimes, some things are so engrained in the fandom, that no other way will be accepted. Think of it as how for the longest time, Kanzenshuu used "Saiya-jin", as opposed to "Saiyan".)

Oh, I know, haha. It was more of a curiosity thing, Saiyan is a fine adaptation of the term. I was thinking of it in a way if someone does more of an "all or nothing" way of adaptation, if you were to fully adapt everything and not leave most things as half-translated ala FUNimation or adapt everything (other than some character names like Son Goku - which if you translated it - wouldn't translate well and would just sound like a title, etc.) into English (or whatever language you're translating/adapting it in to.)

Bills being able to destroy an entire galaxy comes from Piccolo's comment in the second trailer for the film.

We don't know if that line is even in the film. Sometimes trailers will have stuff in them that are not even in the full movie. A good example is the trailer for Predators which had a bunch of Predator lights all over Royce's body and that scene was not even in the movie.

Obviously there's already a prominent character and location in the series both named after the English word "vegetable", so switching "Saiyan" to also being a pun on the English word rather than the Japanese one risks making the name pun scheme rather repetitive and redundant. It's also hard to scramble "vegetable" around in a way similar to the yasai-->Saiya switch that doesn't sound pretty awkward (as "Blevegetan" demonstrates), which is kind of a liability for a term used so often in the series. I'd say this disadvantage outweighs any benefit you might get from an English audience being able to tell right away that the name's a pun on vegetable.

Overall I'm not too fond of the idea that name puns should be made as blindingly, inescapably obvious as is humanly possible. Certainly they should inform how we write the names in English. We probably shouldn't be spelling DBZ movie 3's villain as "Tarres" if his name derives from lettuce; it's misleading to call BoG's villain "Beers" if his name doesn't actually derive from beer. But on the other hand there's probably no point in writing Satan's daughter as "ViDel" or the Ginyu Force as "ReaC'm". It can be hard to know where to draw the line, but a spelling that makes the name source more obvious is not inherently better than one that doesn't make it quite so clear. Half the point of name puns is that there should be some subtlety to them.

Yeah, it doesn't seem to be in the actual finished film. There's quite a few lines from the previews like that, such as Goku oh so casually asking Birus to fight, whereas in the actual film he does it very politely.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I didn't feel it warranted it's own thread. I'd just like to know what title Dabra uses to address Babidi, and how East Kaioshin, Gohan and Goku address the old Kaioshin in the manga.
