While I agree that Dragon Ball was never about actual battle powers... but saying that Dragon Ball has more to do with friendship than fighting (if that's what you are trying to imply) is laughable.
For some reason it seems that its not about friendship but more about family, I don't think when Cell blew a hole in Trunks Vegeta's wrath could be described as his friendship with his future son, father-son love is different and usually a lot stronger than friendship.

I wouldn't say it's about family either. The Friendship/Family theme is very rare in Dragon Ball.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

If it wasn't it would be ironic because Goku is a horrible father...

Reading spoilers won't preclude me from paying my fair share to see the movie when the opportunity eventually presents itself. Who here didn't read spoilers before actually seeing things like the Buu saga or whatnot? Who didn't read CH's spoilers of the manga volumes long before we got a chance to read the manga?

Spoilers of distant overseas materials is sort of part of the US Dragonball fan's culture. I hope we get plenty :)
I'll still watch the movie ofc and buy it legitly or even .. purchase a ticket.. if it's in theaters in the US. Dear sweet Kami.. I hope it makes it to theaters.

The idea of watching a DBZ movie in theaters seems like an absolute blast to me.

I actually carefully weighed my options to be able to go over to Japan and see it that way. Since I'm military, I could have stayed at on-station lodging, even if I'm there on unofficial leave travel etc. . but I'd have to fly commercial, and after discovering the cost of that, plus no one I know was willing to be part of this adventure, and I really don't want to attempt this alone.. plus once I even GOT to Japan what assurance do I have that I'd even be able to get a ticket? I can't imagine it being easy to get tickets to this thing as an American tourist.

I find that really hard to believe, but I'm guessing you're from Japan or somewhere?

Why should he be from Japan? I also watched DBZ without spoiling myself, because when I finished watching it, I was 7 years old. I watched it on TV as a little kid.

New York City. As a kid, I started watching DBZ one day as I was flipping channels and ended up on Cartoon Network, somewhere in the midst of the Freeza conflict, and ever since then I'd always tune into Toonami at 4 just to watch Dragon Ball whenever I got the chance. Then I eventually saw everything. Only spoilers I ever had was when my neighbor from California would tell me about Dragon Ball GT and Super Saiyan 4 and "Evil Shenrons" and Goku's father and Broly, but as a kid these were all common schoolyard fan chatter; you didn't know what was real and what wasn't.

Even when I first read the Z manga, it was the volume of the SSJ Goku vs. Freeza arc, and the TV series was up to the Majin Boo arc at the time, so I never really spoiled myself. So yeah. GT however, I spoiled myself, because I was old enough to work the internets. DB and DBZ however, totally brand new experiences.

Re: Spoilers

I pretty much plan to do the whole "read spoilers now, purchase dvd when released" thing. I've done this with parts of DB before; it's not new to me, just something I haven't had to do for a while.

Vegeta question: How much about ssjg does everybody think he knows (I know from SD it looks like Birusu's going to ask him about it) and (I guess depending on what's involved in the power-up and if it's temporary or permanent) how do you guys think he's going to take it when Goku gets the power-up? My personal guess is a mixture of shock/horror/anger/confusion. I mean, they for a good part understand one another at the end of the Buu arc, but wouldn't being a god rank Goku above Vegeta being a prince? What's that mean for their relationship of sorts? Or will Vegeta just brush it off and ignore that whole point while still touting his "saiyajin prince" stuff?

It will depend on whether "Super Saiyan God" is an actual divine status (like "God of Destruction") or just a simple title (like how most of the "Demon Kings" in the series weren't actual demons).

In my head I imagine Super Saiyan God to be some kind of legend or prophecy from the Saiyans, just maybe it wasn't taken seriously or literally.

Man, part of me just wants to come away from Kanzenshuu to avoid spoiling the film but the other part of me is just so interested and psyched.

I'm the same, I fell like I can't look at this thread because I want to wait for an English dub, if it ever happens to enjoy the movie, but I want to see what Super Saiyan God looks like last year.
Next to get; Leged of Saiyan figures and Freeza's force

If anyone sees
Any of the Legend of Saiyan line going cheapish
Or any other Banpresto DBZ figure :)

If anyone has a cooler steelbook dvd that wants to sell it (prefer new but used is fine) when/if the dragon box movies comes out contact me :)

I can understand the point of view of people that don't want any spoilers, but I also completely agree that spoilers are kind of a big part of the Dragon Ball fandom. So I'm definitely ready to read any and everything that Kei is able/willing to give us.

I wonder if I'm at all a rare case in that reading spoilers for something just makes me even MORE excited and eager to see/read/hear/experience it for myself.

Hm? Well, Gyumao was just a big tall dude as far as we know, but Piccolo was a demon (a being born from pure evil) before and only later became non-demony, Dabra really was king of the Demon World, Lucifer was a demon. These guys aren't all the same type of demonic being, but that doesn't mean they aren't all demons. Oh, and Pilaf starts calling himself "Daimao" in the wedding dress filler arc, apparently just to sound cool (technically Pilaf is a "Monster-type Earthling", which pretty much amounts to saying he's an Earthling who doesn't fit into the other categories of Earthling).

Sometimes, I tweet things
We might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason.
