It's also due to the fact that Japanese society, atleast the "Otaku" market have a higher ammount of disposable income (cheap trains, etc) and as such they charge highers for these kinds of ammounts because the standards of what is "reasonable" there is higher than it is over here.desirecampbell wrote: 1. 86 discs for DragonBall Z @ $24.95 (original MSRP) is $2145.70 before taxes.Blitzen wrote:It's also due to the fact that Japanese society, atleast the "Otaku" market have a higher ammount of disposable income (cheap trains, etc) and as such they charge highers for these kinds of ammounts because the standards of what is "reasonable" there is higher than it is over here.desirecampbell wrote: 1. Only if you're buying them at Suncoast(does anyone actually still do this?). They're all $16-$17 at Best Buy(some are $13 at Amazon, and anywhere from $9 to $16 at deepdiscountdvd.) So $17 times 86 discs is $1,462. Or to use $12 as an average from deepdiscountdvd... $1,032.86 discs for DragonBall Z @ $24.95 (original MSRP) is $2145.70 before taxes.
...this makes my head hurt. Let me break it down:Domon wrote:Only if you're buying them at Suncoast(does anyone actually still do this?). Granted, it's still pretty darn expensive no matter what, but not quite as much as you're implying.
Now I'm not sure what the arguement is. In your first post, you appeared to be saying that the Dragonboxes are cheaper than the Funimation DVDs(at MSRP, granted, but it was the only price point mentioned). Now you're saying both versions can be had for less than the MSRP(which is certainly true). So, er... I'm not sure why the "suggested retail price" had to be brought up in the first place, since neither of us is paying that much for the series....this makes my head hurt. Let me break it down:
MSRP = Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price. It is, as the name implies, the price the manufacturer suggests the retailer sell it for. FUNimation always marketed the DragonBall Z releases for $24.95 when they were first released. Yes, some retailers sell it for less. Point being, the standard price is $24.95 a volume.
Now, same goes for the Dragon Box releases. 100,000 yen a piece or $850 MSRP, but typically they could be had for $700. So, while I spent about $1400 on the Dragon Boxes for Z, you'd spend $1320 (adding two volumes for Bardock and Trunks, and using an average of $15 per new volume, since that's what DeepDiscountDVD has the latest volume listed for).
...I give up. Anyone else care to explain?Domon wrote:Now I'm not sure what the arguement is. Very well, in that case *ahem*Domon wrote:^
But as said, the DVDs can be brought in store for far cheaper than MSRP, and since all of us here are online, chances are we all (or most of us) can buy the various discs for cheap. So again, I don't see what the need is to bring up the highest possible prices for these things, since it doesn't appear to be a real concern for anyone.
Now don't get me wrong, I understand the need for references points and all that, but it seems irrelevant in this case.
