If you could change the course/result of a fight...

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

If you could change the course/result of a fight...

Post by RandomGuy96 » Tue Mar 19, 2013 2:33 am

Are there any fights that just didn't satisfy you because of how they concluded? I know there are some for me. This is a thread to just describe results you would've like to seen in certain fights (not ones that majorly change the plot, just a simple matter of "this fight went this way" or "this person won this fight instead"). I'll go first:

I would've liked to see Mecha Frieza actually put up a fight against Future Trunks. He should've been quite strong, and actually beating an opponent in straight combat rather than sucker punching them while they were distracted would make Trunks look more impressive.

I would've liked to see either A. Cooler beat up another Super Saiyan to prove he is a threat (as it is now he seems weaker than Freeza unless you analyze closely) or B. actually have there be a fight between Cooler and Goku. That was a complete anti-climax if you ask me.

Have either Nappa or Reccoome be killed by a sneak attack by Krillin. This would do two things: one, show that the guy with the highest power level doesn't always win, and things like teamwork and numbers actually matter, and two, give Krillin a certified badass moment in Dragon Ball Z. I thought it was rather unfair that Goku got to effortlessly dispatch BOTH of the big brutes that beat up everyone else.

If Nappa has to be beaten by Goku, at least have Piccolo and Krillin land more hits on him. Emphasize that anyone else with a similar power level would've gone down, and he's just TOUGH. Makes his performance against Goku also make more sense.

Have Piccolo actually about to beat 17 before Cell arrives. Because come on, after that point he was reduced to a baby-sitter even after his massive ROSAT power up. Best to let him have one last great moment.

Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

Pretty much most of the fights in the movies are anti-climactic. They are usually one sided until the very end.

I'm fine with most of the outcomes of every fight but I would like a lot of them to be a lot less one-sided. It's a lot less interesting when Cell takes hits like a tank and doesn't move an inch. Being able to take a beating is more interesting. That's one of the reasons I like the fight between Vegeta and fat Buu a lot.

Okay, I've got two, the fight against the Cell Jr.'s. Everyone gets beat up by them just so we can see how tough Gohan is, but it doesn't make Gohan look tough so much as the Z Team look weak. Goku was already exhausted after his fight with Cell, but Vegeta and Trunks (arguably Piccolo) should've been able to do SOMETHING to them. I find it ridiculous that Cell can create SEVEN beings that powerful and not have any noticable drop off in power. It's rather cheap.

Also, Goku should've killed Freeza. It's ridiculous that he survived being cut in half, blasted by Goku, and Namek's explosion! Plus, if he's just going to come back in order to lose in less that spectacular fashion (weak for what was once the greatest threat in the universe), Toriyama should've just had King Cold seek revenge for the death of his son on his own.

Piccolo and 17 were evenly matched, but 17 had the advantage of a perpetual energy supply. The only way Piccolo could win is to kill him, in which case, Cell wouldn't have become perfect.

Fight 1: The fight between Cooler and Goku.

Basically, Cooler would already be powerful enough to fend of Goku in the beginning without trying like he did when he transformed. Goku goes over the edge and turns SSJ to which he lands a beatdown upon Cooler. After that, Cooler would then announce that he had a form beyond the one he is seen in and proceed to transform.

After that, Cooler and Goku would fight with each other, each almost the same in power though Cooler is slightly more powerful, giving him an advantage over Goku.

The fight would go on for a while until they both step back, Goku is exhausted while Cooler looks perfectly fine. He describes his disappointment in the Super Saiyan and throws a ki blast at Goku, who blocks it which fills his vision with smoke. Cooler creates a Death Ball.

The rest is basically what was seen in the movie.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

But that fight never happened, and if it did it would be an anti-climatic curb stomp either way if it did. This isn't really the "battles you wanted to see?" thread.

I like the idea of King Cold coming alone instead of Mecha Frieza coming back.

I wish Tenshinhan had defeated Drum. Tenshinhan beat Goku just barely in the tournament, but after that he starts to slide into obsolescence.

Ultimate Gohan vs. Majin Buu w/ Gotenks absorbed. I'm shocked nobody has cited that yet.

The Freeza fight is in dire need of reconstruction, especially given that there's no consistently respectable animated version of the material. Lets get rid of that third stage while we're at it.

What if Trunks actually managed to knock Vegeta out with his blast? That would do it.
Just knock the proud son of a Saiyan out.

Also, I agree with the Piccolo vs. 17 fight. I wouldn't matter in the storytelling, since 17 would still be absorbed and Piccolo defeated.

I could also see the Gohan vs. Gotenks Buu going a lot more evenly, with Gohan losing due to having less stamina.

You clearly don't. Vegeta wanted a challenge and that's completely in character. If Vegeta isn't the strongest he isn't happy so it's unlike Vegeta to kill Cell when he knows he can get stronger to satisfy a challenge. If he killed Cell right away, I would question Toriyama at that point because that is completely out of character.

I would have really loved it if Goku just squashed the Ginyu Force with kaioken in seconds, and called Frieza over by powering up more (surely Frieza would have been concerned about something higher than 180,000) then challenging Frieza to show how Goku puts up a fight. He stated he could do 10x kaioken by the time he arrived Namek. He really let me down here... Ginyu? he's only 120,000. Kick his butt.

Now, I know if Frieza ever transformed to second stage, Goku might have a problem. But let's say Goku was actually SERIOUS about fighting. If this were in real life, saw his own son lying on the ground with a broken neck, and his best friend crippled. You would not waste any time with these thugs right? C'mon. So Goku not wasting any time, could probably deal with Frieza at 530,000 before he even has a chance to transform.

This is part of a more general problem that Freeza's henchmen are crap, especially compared to him. Nappa was maybe 25% as strong as Vegeta, Raditz was 15 times weaker. Tambourine was a little less than half as powerful as Piccolo, Drum was more than half as powerful, Cymbal was maybe a quarter.

Freeza is a thousand times more powerful than Ginyu.

Also it would be out of character for Goku. I find it funny that, had Goku transformed into a Super Saiyan when fighting Ginyu (after seeing his almost dead son and all that) instead of getting an insanely haxxed x33 zenkai, Freeza would not only beat him, but he'd wonder why he ever destroyed the saiyans in the first place when the legendary warrior was such a weakling.

So probably better he didn't instantly use kaio-ken on Ginyu...

^^ I don't think so. The anime drags it on, but the transformations happen within seconds.
