Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods"

Something tells me if someone ever did, especially right now, Toei would find them and sue em in one heartbeat!

Just my two pence; I't doesn't bother me about Gohan going Super Saiyan, but if it is, as it would appear, to be for Goku's Super Saiyan God transformation, and if it is a necessity for the Saiyans to have transformed into a Super Saiyan state for the ritual, wouldn't that de facto imply Pan is in an uterine in vivo Super Saiyan state.....??

This would be taking a major risk at the cinema, and on Youtube it would be taken down in like one hour max!
I don't think anyone is going to take the risk to film it at the cinema, and I wouldn't advice it. They must be on their guard, knowing that on the contrary of regular live-action films, we're not about to be able to watch the movie in any other country, so they must expect lots of people are waiting for someone in Japan to go illegal and offer it to the world, and they must be ready to jump to battle as soon as someone dares to do it.
It's no big lost though, I hate cam versions and can't stand to watch them with their horrible off-screen shooting and terrible not-even-stereo sound quality. That would definately not be a good way to discover the best Dragon Ball movie.

I don't think going Super Saiyan is necessary, since I don't believe Pan can be one before being born. But Gohan knows that it's something related to the power of Saiyans, and seeing everyone transforming to get as close to that power as possible, he probably feels like doing the same, just in case, to connect to his Saiyan side as well, not really taking into account that the unborn baby can't anyway (or is connected to her Saiyan side by default in her current state).

I'm not sure how else the story could've panned out, at least it wasn't all about Goku saving the day though right? It'll hopefully be a stepping stone to something new with Dragon Ball and a new cast that can keep up with the current lead heroes.

Yeah, I agree - when I see this in its entirety for the first time I want to be able to watch the beautiful animation rather than a grainy dark pirated recording.

I like that, a nice plausible straightforward idea. It isn't necessary for the "ritual" to become a Super Saiyan but by doing so further connects them to their primal Saiyan-selves and it's inert power.

EDIT: Or perhaps it has something to do with pure hearts - needing six pure hearted Saiyans, and that reaching Super Saiyan in-itself required a pure heart, so in this state they could be seen to be pure?? And the fact that Pan is unborn and not exposed to any environmental factors is also of pure heart, in essence a blank slate; tabla rasa??

Of course the implications of this would be that it would imply that these characters are not pure hearted in base form, which isn't really correct so I guess that throws all of what I just said out of the window haha

The "Scene" in Japan I guarantee will have already released it, but it will never become international, Toei would target whoever did a fansub for this. Remember the good old days when you used to have to pay a lot down the market for a crap VHS with stupid subtitles for Dragon Ball, I only ever bought one, it was a movie that some guy had while Dragon Ball Z was on Cartoon Network I bought it expecting to hear the same voices and then buy the tape when it got an official release, but the film never oficially got released and the tape was a crappy fansub, still never watched it all the way through.

The villains as described and shown fit into the same mold of Dragon Ball villains really well. Additionally, Vegeta (and Blooma) have just as much if not more importance than Gokuu does. Watanabe expressed in a recent interview that he is actually rather fond of Vegeta.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the ritual just that they need the power of 6 pure-hearted saiyans? Not Super Saiyans since Pan isn't one. So when they all turned Super Saiyan they were just doing that to power-up and give Goku their power. So i don't see why Gohan had to turn Super Saiyan when he could of powered up to his Ultimate form and give Goku more power.

I loved the Watanabe interview, he seems to really like Vegeta, and that is definetly a plus in my eyes.

I do wish we had seen more of his original idea in the film, though. Fun stories are always fun, but a serious one would've been a great change of pace. The idea of looking at "what makes a hero" makes me want to see Watanabe and a future film tackle Gokuu's lack of heroic-ness, really bring Gokuu down a peg. With so many other Destruction Gods out there I'd also like to see future films focus on others, too. The next film could touch up on Vegeta's failure in this movie, another could touch up on Piccolo's connection to the gods, etc. If this holy power (whatever its official name is) is obtainable by a Saiyan, maybe this could be used as an excuse to make Kuririn and the others stronger?
