Also, what's Library of Adventure again?
Library of Adventure contained design sketches for the characters, items, and vehicles that appeared in the anime and movies, including characters, items, and vehicles that appeared only in the anime.

To bad I have to wait three weeks until volume 3 is released, and then another few days until it arrives in the mail.

I don't think it'll cover GT, since the Chozenshuu are based off of the four Daizenshuu that mainly cover the original anime. Although the DB Project website mentions that Daizenshuu 1 will included into the Chozenshuu, but it hasn't appeared in any of the volumes yet. It'll probably appear in Chozenshuu 4.

Looks like, once we're done with the Chōzenshū, we also have a "Chōgashū" (Super Illustration Collection) to look forward to. Comes out the same day as the final Chōzenshū, according to the listing.

I'd totally lay down the money for a revised Daizenshu #1 with all of the officially released Toriyama art since 1996. The pictures he did for the big Japan earthquake, the new Tankōbon spine-art, and other assorted goodies.

Great! They'll surely get together all the illustrations from all the Daizenshuu (and possibly new ones) in that book. There's nothing lost then :D

I wonder if'll they'll include the "Animation Gallery" from the Supplemental Daizenshū as well in the Chōgashū (although most of the pictures from the Animation Gallery appeared in the Dragon Ball Anime Illustration Collection: The Golden Warrior).

I wonder if they'll release a supplemental Chōzenshū like they did with the Daizenshū aside from the Super Illustration Collection.

Oh awesome! I would totally buy a new illustration book! Hope it gets a new cover and not just a recycled Daizenshuu cover!

Considering the Chōgashū's price is a bit higher than the Chōzenshū's, I assume it means more pages. 8)

It seems that Chōzenshū 4 is available for pre-order on Amazon. Unfortunately there is no page count for it yet.

I think you'll probably be fine. I doubt this new book'll republish everything (if anything) from the "Golden Warrior" book.

I'm really hoping it's exclusively Toriyama stuff.

I have a question but this thread is huge so I haven't read all of it.

Are the Chozenshu viable replacements for the Daizenshu? Like, is there anything HUGE missing from them that makes the Daizenshuu worth getting over them, or are these perfectly serviceable as in-print stand ins for the Daizenshuu?

I ask because I've wanted the Daizenshu for years, but they're always WAY too expensive, especially because it was a massive 10 book release and each book has a huge mark up in auctions. I have my Daizenshu 1 US edition, but I've always wanted the rest of them. This seems like a viable way to get that provided it has the majority of the info intact.

For what it's worth, while I wouldn't say they're "plummeting", I'm seeing far more reasonable deals on the old daizenshuu on eBay recently.

All-in-all, from what we've seen: yes. If you don't own any daizenshuu, picking these up is a perfectly fine replacement.

The respective pages in our "Databook Guide" give a lovely breakdown of what's included, what's not included, and what's new.

From what I'm seeing here, the only bits missing from the first book are the "Original Color Works", The Shenlong Times inserts, the reprints of the first and last chapters, (which I can do without easily because all of that is available in my Kanzenban) and the interviews are consolidated and condensed.

The 2nd one appears to have everything but the "Library of Adventure" which is over 100 pages of character design sketches from the anime... that is a sad omission but I can do without it, and the "All Story Digest" which was basically just a glorified episode list, which I have with my Dragon Boxes.

Did I get it all or am I missing something?

Not bad at all. I can do without that material easily I think.

It's not a big one, but Chozenshu 2 also omitted one of the questions off the Q&A while consolidating them apparently..

It would be great to get some in-depth stuff on Freeza's race.
AND
battle powers for after the Namek arc just to turn the fandom on its head.

He's probably referring to the Bardock special. Zarbon was the one who first recommended destroying Planet Vegeta because the saiyans were rapidly growing in strength.
It was actually Beerus disguised as Zarbon #StayWoke
Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

You know, I don't really care about battle powers, but that sounds really fun.

Based on the first two volumes, I doubt the last two will have much if any new information that isn't directly related to BoG or the other new stuff that's come out since the daizenshuu were published. I can halfway see them slapping a BP number on Beers though.

A single battle power for Beers with no sort of power scaling after Freeza could be hilarious.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!
