How many English releases will you own before you stop?
Re: How many English releases will you own before you stop?
I'll probably never buy Dragon Ball anything on Blu-ray unless they use the storage space per disc to put on like 15 episodes a piece. It's an old show - it does not really benefit much from HD.
Re: How many English releases will you own before you stop?
I wouldn't say that. The Level sets looked wonderful, if only they'd been complete.Duo wrote:It's an old show - it does not really benefit much from HD.
Which, by the way, is the only reason I'd ever shell out to get a release of Z again, since I have the Dragon Boxes (the most perfect DVDs we'll see). As for Dragon Ball, I have a few of the Blue Bricks, and I want to get the rest of them, but I'd be happy to pay for a Dragon Box or Blu-Ray. GT, well... I like the series enough to get the Green Brick, and I'd buy a Dragon Box or good BD, but I don't know how I'd feel about buying GT more than once, so I'm waiting that one out.

I dunno about English releases, but I'll continue to support the better-and-better releases as long as I continue to be an on-and-off fan of the series, probably. Recently I've been buying the WSJ just for the newly colored manga, but that shit ain't cheap or practical at the moment. I want to drop some money on the 20 volumes on iTunes Japan but I don't even know how to begin registering a US credit/debit card for international purchases (someone with this skill set want to shoot me a PM? I'd greatly, greatly appreciate it). For the anime I'm content owning the 7 US DBoxes; it's the only collection of the anime I've ever purchased and I'm so glad that I waited. But sometimes, like Cold Skin said in another thread, sometimes it's nice to go with different if there isn't a better option out there. I wouldn't say the color edition of the manga is "better" or "more official" but it's a nice spin on something that I don't really enjoy as much as I used to because of its age/dullness now. I know the 2008 special is in my future whenever the fuck that gets released State-side.
Re: How many English releases will you own before you stop?
You have all the movies too, right? Which sets did you go with? I have the first release singles from FUNImation by and large. I saw one of the new DVD's in action (for Movie 3, thin pack release from the last year or two), and it does look quite a bit better. Tempting, but I'll probably wait for something better. I'd love to see Toei reanimate some of the old movies for HD and rerelease them in limited theatrical runs.Tyro wrote:I dunno about English releases, but I'll continue to support the better-and-better releases as long as I continue to be an on-and-off fan of the series, probably. I'm sure they looked good, but how much better then upscaled Dragon Box could it really be? It even seems kind of unnecessary to have Kai on Blu-ray. I watched the first half of the series that way, switched over to DVD...and could not see a difference to save my life.Son Satan wrote:I wouldn't say that. Re: How many English releases will you own before you stop?
I have the DBZ Dragon Boxes. I'm finished with DBZ TV.
Okay, I'll probably end up getting the rest of DB(Z) Kai at some point, but it's a very low priority, especially since I already own the parts that needed it the most (outside the Buu arc, which is still incoming, so I've been told). But as far as Z proper? Done with the TV series. I don't care if Toei does a new remaster, if Funimation does a new remaster, if some other company does a new remaster, I'm finished. DBoxes are high quality, cater to the fans of the Japanese version, and are in themselves a trophy of DB fandom. DBZ isn't such a masterpiece that I need to keep buying it.
As far as the original DB TV series, yeah, I'd be up for getting Dragon Boxes for that. Maybe some of the movies for DB/Z if in DBox quality. No interest in GT.
The only thing that would get me to purchase DBZ TV again is if they redubbed the whole thing, and even then, it might be a "too little too late" kind of thing.
What I really want now is a good PHYSICAL Viz release of the newly colored manga with good translating. I'd buy the hell out of that.

Barring my current lack of Vol. 2, this is the same for me. I don't see a reason to buy anymore releases when the Dragon Boxes are as good as they can get (for fans of the original). I'll end up doing the same with Dragon Ball, GT & the Movies whenever the fuck those ever come out.penguintruth wrote:I have the DBZ Dragon Boxes. I'm finished with DBZ TV.

I'd settle for digital too, really. It's enough of a bitch to keep track of the complete set I already have.
Re: How many English releases will you own before you stop?
I have the Dragon Ball season sets, the Dragon Ball Z orange season sets and GT season sets. If we get a complete series of Ocean dub Z i will get that and then that will be it.

Also ditto. That's the first time I've purchased the entire series, and I see no reason to buy anything else.penguintruth wrote:I have the DBZ Dragon Boxes. I'm finished with DBZ TV.
Very much want a Dragon Box release of the first TV series and also GT, although if the latter doesn't happen, I guess I can always try to get the singles, which are close enough. But those will also be the last ones of those I ever plan to get.
Do you follow the most comprehensive and entertaining Dragon Ball analysis series on YouTube? If you do, you're smart and awesome and fairly attractive. If not, see what all the fuss is about without even having to leave Kanzenshuu:

Hope they never do such thing or it would be ruined by compression.Duo wrote:I'll probably never buy Dragon Ball anything on Blu-ray unless they use the storage space per disc to put on like 15 episodes a piece. It's an old show - it does not really benefit much from HD.
Bootleggers release 20/30 episodes on one DVD and that's insane as it is.

FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
Re: How many English releases will you own before you stop?
I collected all the uncut singles like yourself way back when, and those're still the only versions I own to this day. Before I ever purchase anything DB-related I always come here and get a feel for the general quality of the product, compare that to what may or may not get released in the future, and then decide. That's kinda why I love Kanzenshuu. If a product is really what it claims to be it'll get the all-clear from the members here as they run it through the gauntlet. For example, I thought when the orange/blue/green bricks released that we were going to get the definitive release of Dragonball. So I watched as its reputation was ripped to pieces for weeks and ultimately I decided to wait for something better. When the DBoxes released and it passed with flying colors I swooped in and grabbed those up.Duo wrote:You have all the movies too, right? Which sets did you go with? To get back to your question though, I never picked up any other versions of the movies because there didn't seem to be that general consensus that these were "how it's meant to be seen." So here I am waiting for the best there is. Sometimes I question picking up the blue bricks though, because it's going to be awhile methinks before another/a better version hits the shelves.

Re: How many English releases will you own before you stop?
I own all of the Dragon Boxes and what's currently out for Kai. Once Kai is finished, I plan on never buying a release of DBZ ever again. I also own the GT Box Set and one of the movie boxes. I've those 2 and the original Dragon Ball get Dragon Box releases here, I'll buy those.
Re: How many English releases will you own before you stop?
I have the "brick" releases for the entire series (DB/Z/GT), as well as all of the Kai "part" releases (mostly through the Walmart two-packs). I have all of the VizBIG releases up to Z volume 5, and plan on collecting the rest.
I just need the rest of the manga, the movies, and the TV specials, and I'll be done, unless there's another Dragon Box release (whether for DB, or a Z reprint/singles, etc.), or a Kanzenban release stateside.

Re: How many English releases will you own before you stop?
Orange Bricks (I'm missing 7 and the last one), and some "Remastered Movies" (I think Movies 7-11). Ultimate Uncuts, the two collecter boxsets with the figures. Wrath of the Dragon (1st Funi release) and Broly second coming (1st Funi release) which means I have two copies of Movie 10
. I think I'll just finish the Orange Brocks and call it a day. Don't care, nor do I want to buy anymore DBZ, or anime for that matter. I need clothes and shit lol. Gotta stay fresh.

Re: How many English releases will you own before you stop?
As for the manga, I won't be satisfied until we get a Kanzenban release with unedited artwork and a new translation. But that'll never come, so my VizBigs will have to do. As far as the animated version goes, my answer is one word: "FUNiBoxes."
FUNimation's Dragon Box spoiled me too much. I now must own Dragon Box versions of everything or else I won't be satisfied. I already own all of GT and all of the movies/specials, but I'd upgrade to FUNiBox versions instantly. I'm still holding out for a FUNiBox of Dragon Ball. To be honest, the only parts of my DragonBall collection that I'm 100% satisfied with are my DBZ FUNiBoxes and my Kai blu-ray sets. They'd have to do something amazing for me to re-buy Z or Kai. Everything else, though? I would jump at the chance to upgrade.
As sad as it is, I've never really been able to imagine my DB fandom where I'm not constantly re-buying stuff. I hate to say that, but it just seems to come with the territory of being a fan of this franchise. With each new release, we inch closer and closer to that "perfect" one, but we rarely seem to get there.

Re: How many English releases will you own before you stop?
I have all the dragon boxes except for that pesky one that's going for $500 these days. Wish I had bought it when I could have. I have all the movies in old dvd format and the blu-ray broly triple feature thing. I had the orange bricks but I sold em awhile ago. I wanna get the blue bricks for DB sooner or later and right now I am contemplating buying all the Kai season sets on blu-ray simply because I have never watched Kai. Is DB Kai blu-ray worth it guys?

Once the remaining Dragonbox's are released then that'll be it aside from new stuff like specials and movie's. I have no plans to buy Kia or any Bluray's of old material.

Re: How many English releases will you own before you stop?
If you feel like adding Kai to your collection, any of FUNi's releases are perfectly fine. Each episode has its proper opening/ending animations, and all of the proper eyecatches are included (believe me, I was crazy enough to check). Aside from the credits/titles being in English, it's as unedited a release as Kai can receive. If you want absolute consistency in packaging and music score, then FUNi's season sets are the version to pick up.bleed0range wrote:Is DB Kai blu-ray worth it guys?

It shouldn't be a problem keeping the quality though. The season box sets have 7-8 episodes per disc and they are on 8gb DVD's, with a Blu-Ray disc a single layer can hold 25gb's worth and a dual layer can take 50gb. I am sure it would be very east to put 15 episodes on one disc without losing quality.dbboxkaifan wrote:Hope they never do such thing or it would be ruined by compression.Duo wrote:I'll probably never buy Dragon Ball anything on Blu-ray unless they use the storage space per disc to put on like 15 episodes a piece.
