If you was paid 1 dollar per hour while you wrote these guides, how much money would you have earned until now?

Beats me. Send me $300,000 and I'll call it even.

Hey, I think it would be worth mentioning that in your Gokuu outfit guide, that when he switches to the mark less dougi, he starts wearing a martial arts obi instead of his usual karate belt.

Just a note, but because of the move, this entire topic is fairly useless. It still works as an archive of Herms' guide names so you can find them yourself with a search, but the links no longer work, of course. lol

Replace the "http://daizex.fanboyreview.net/" part with "http://www.kanzenshuu.com/forum/", and poof!
But yeah, the links have to get an edit.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

With Goku's clothing, it's an extremely small thing, but his collar gets much, much lower from the point where he stops sporting a symbol on his outfit. A similar thing happens to Piccolo at the same time.

Also, does the colour switch on the Kame uniform that happens between DB and DBZ also happen in the manga? (ie, the Kame symbol having a white background instead of yellow, the belt going from black to blue...)

So, had a really boring day over spring break, and went through and read all your guides, and....wow. This is beyond impressive. I have learned so much that I would never had otherwise about my favorite series from your work, and I really appreciate it. Thanks a lot! :D

EDIT: Herms, just read through your Name Pun Round-ups, really cool piece of work, thank you!!

I'm not sure if either of these could be the source but there is the onomatopoeic word ぞっと (zotto) for a shudder/shiver and the expression ぞっとしない (zottoshinai) used about something that is very disgusting or very unappealing.

It's probably either that and/or 悍ましい/ozomashii, another word for "disgusting".

Bearing in mind that Toriyama has a knack for food-related puns; Perhaps risotto (リゾット) could also be a potential source?

I don't know, it's possible, but if it were a pun on "risotto", then replacing the "ri" with an "o" would be a little arbitrarily. Typically with DB name puns, there's a logic behind the way they alter the source word to create the character name (even if sometimes this can get obscured in the transliteration process). Maybe they scramble it, or elongate vowels (or unelongate them), or add/remove a dakuten, maybe add something on to the end, etc. They don't generally replace syllables with completely different syllables, especially not the starting ones.

Hey herms, I did read your timeline with all the events recently. Great work.

I was wondering if you plan on update it with the new info from Battle of Gods. Including the corrected birthdates of Pan and Bra (I think you have Bra as older than Pan right now).

There are many little bits and typos that need to be corrected, sometimes whole entries (Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans is completely missing), it is to be expected in such a big document. I've pointed out to Herms many of them already. He told me that he will update the whole document at some point from.. well now really. He was waiting for the movie to come out to be able to add any relevant information on it as well.
There is a crossed out entry for the Timeline on the main website as a place-holder. So in sum, yes it is definitely in the plans and you can expect it to be featured on the main website sooner or later.

A question about the (amazing)Age Guides: Some dates have actual days on them, such as Friday or Saturday. If we have those, couldn't someone, in theory, meticulously apply a day of the week to every calendar date available? If the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai is on May 7, a Thursday, then wouldn't say, April 6, the day Goku and Krillin begin training with shells that weigh 40 kilos, be a Monday? (EDIT: I used May 2009 for that example)

Well, you kind of don't have to I guess? Dr. Slump crossing over with Dragon Ball gave allowed us to know what year in Dragon Ball's Age Calender equates to the year in Dr. Slump's wacky Gregorian Calendar. For example, Arale is born on May 17th, 1980/AGE 744.

Herms' History of Ever guide tells us that the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai is held on May 7th (Thursday), Age 750. [Ref: It being Thursday comes from Bulma’s line in Chapter 68 about it being Sunday tomorrow (Saturday in Viz). That day was the 9th according to Daizenshuu 7, so backtracking this becomes Thursday. Apparently Bulma cut class to attend the tournament.]

So, that would mean the Tenkaichi Budokai was held on May 7th (Thursday), 1986. If you check out our actual calender for May 1986, you will find out that the 7th is actually a Wednesday. So, if you have a date for the Dragon Ball world, you could theoretically convert it from the Age system top the Gregorian one, check it against our calender for that year and then just jump back a day...

The Stronger Loving Timeline says Arale was born in 745, though... So isn't that 1980, and 750 is 1985? Although May 7 1985 isn't a Wednesday... I guess we just have a typo there?

Or maybe you just can't match them to the Gregorian Calender? xD
