Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods"

Then unfortunately you're gonna be sad. The whole thing unfolds as follows: After everyone else (Tenshinhan, Piccolo, No. 18, etc.) have been defeated, Vegeta decides to fight Birusu on his own, and is ultimately defeated. Birusu is about to finish off Vegeta, who has admitted defeat at this point, but then Bulma walks up and scolds Birusu for ruining her birthday party, slapping him. Birusu returns the favor and slaps her right back. Vegeta sees this and explodes in a fit of rage, and starts knocking Birusu around for a bit. Kame-Sen'nin, who is watching, says in amazement that it looks like Vegeta has surpassed Goku.

I really wouldn't read too much into it. It's an offhanded comment from Kame-Sen'nin about an emotionally enraged Vegeta who catches Birusu off guard. As soon as Vegeta's rampage is over, Birusu is just fine and Vegeta once again accepts his and the planet's fate. But apparently this is what everyone wants to discuss lately, which has me at a loss because I don't care enough about it I guess.

Still though, the fact that he actually hits him more than once is rather impressive. Oh well, even if it is temporary, it just shows that Vegeta has a lot of potential which is a plus I suppose. I just care about this because I feel Vegeta and Goku should be within the same realm of strength being rivals and all.

On the topic of kei's summary, holy crap, 9 pages and possibly still growing?!

We should clarify that the "English version" of the synopsis was at 9 pages at the time. Kei gave everything to us in Japanese, so we're turning his list into a coherently flowing synopsis, which will help everyone out in the long run. With Kei seeing it twice already, the new official movie guide, and Julian going to see it in a few days, we're set with all the information we need. Anyway, as of last night it was at 10 pages. This will definitely be the best synopsis of all time, ever! So naturally it will end up being spread across the entire internet in no time, with the majority of people having no idea where it came from...

Ohh, all right. That explains a lot about how it'll be as long as it is, as well as why it's taking a little more time than it might have otherwise to get it out there - you want it to be pretty much perfect first (which is understandable).

As far as the description of how Vegeta's 'power up' goes, I think I can work with it. I like the idea of Vegeta having some untapped potential that he can't usually get at since his only 'anger' in a fight prior to this has pretty much always been a negative kind, rather than it coming from a good place like it does when Bils' attacks Bulma here. And if that's where it's all coming from, it only makes sense that it'd be temporary IMO. Besides, it gives him something else to work for now.

I'm happy that Vegeta got a power up (if its even that), but really I don't care if its permanent or not. I'm so much happier with what Vegeta did for Bulma. I really love it!

I want to address everyone who has seen kei17's summary from the kanzenshuu heads. Ignoring all battle statements, what is your verdict on the movie.

I'm holding off on my final verdict until I can sit down and watch it like a fan and not a researcher. But I will say that based on all of the preview clips, movie trailers, and putting this synopsis together, it is definitely a different movie from everything we've seen previously. It's hard to really compare. The story development is great, there are numerous Toriyama influences throughout, and most of all, it's very nostalgic. Naturally the nostalgia factor can be a bit cloudy to one's judgement, but I think that years down the road I'll still consider it a great movie.

We will indeed be waiting for Julian to see the movie, mostly just to ensure we're as accurate as possible. I'm hoping he can just go enjoy it as he normally would though, since we don't really have much to clarify at this point.

So I don't want to know the spoiler on how it was done if it was done, but can anyone tell me if King Kai's planet being back is explained in any way in the movie?

It's never explained. In fact, they even mention the "Kaio's planet is small because Beers destroyed it" backstory from the full color comics Q&A. So we can't even say that he just bought a new one or something, because then it wouldn't be the remains of the original bigger planet that Beers blew up, so saying "it's only small because you destroyed it" wouldn't make sense. Unless Kaio had a spare fragment of his original bigger planet made into a smaller planet, but in that case why wouldn't he be living there in the Boo arc?

Also, for some reason in the movie Beers is said to have destroyed Kaio's planet due to getting mad after losing at hide-and-seek, rather than at a racing video game like in the full color comic explanation.

I suppose if Toriyama was ever asked about it he could simply say that the guys used the dragon balls at some point to wish back his planet for him since it was kind of Goku's fault it was destroyed (the second time). haha. It's an easy enough plot hole to fill, I just wish they'd filled it. In fact they could have merely added a single off-screen line to fix that.

All these little details they forgot are not really all that little. I mean he didn't have the planet from end of cell to end of the series. Gohan going "mystic/ultimate" is much easier to forgive if they forgot that even though that also is a fairly big plot point.

Alright, in that case I'm sticking with Birus for ビルス and going with Vis for ウイス. Wait, so since the pun source is virus, even though it's the based on German pronunciation for Birus and the Latin for Vis... for English speakers would we pronounce it Bai-rus (or how we pronounce Virus but with a 'b') and Viss for Vis?

I'm aware the Japanese or German and Latin pronunciations would be - Bee-roos and Vee-s (or however you'd spell it out).

Since the pun source also exists as a word in English, I'm gonna go with the 'English' pronunciation.

Hmm...maybe there's some weird thing to Bils' destructive powers where, what he destroys cannot be brought back, even with the Dragon Balls? If that's the case...I wonder if anyone he killed would be unable to be revived too?
