Even if we assume purity of heart is an impossible ideal, that doesn't mean it would always end up negatively. People striving to be better, even if the example isn't realistic, is a good thing.
This wasn't about "striving to be better", it was about being "pure of heart", which is AFAIK never defined in-universe, and Goku is pure only by daint of being retarded (and in my take on the concept, an insane Gohan, despite having his meltdown on Namek, is still pure due to insanity)

Goku isn't retarded, he's just been raised in the mountains, so he's naive.

Toriyama takes it for granted that purity of heart means no malevolence in a person's heart.

If someone's insane, they aren't pure of heart or impure. They aren't of the right mind to be anything.

Well, that and a bonk on the head when he was an infant can cause a drop in IQ.

I don't understand why people care so much about the who is stronger than who arguments.
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.

Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

Another opinion: While I believe the old dub was far from Kai's standards, I don't get why people think it's like A Serbian Film.

Things are said that are completely out of character, or dated even then. Some things are added that make no sense such as "Your father was a poor fighter, Kakarrot, but he was a brillaint scientist".

Even ignoring the replaced dialog, a lot of dialog was added in places where nobody was speaking. Also the mickey-mousing of the dub score, a score that went out of its way to make as many scenes as possible sound "epic", with little to no regard for the actual tone of the scene.

I already acknowledged that it fucked up on many occasions, it was more the general reaction to it (and Evolution for that matter) was the same as those who watched A Serbian Film.

What about the reaction makes it the same as someone who's seen a serbian film as opposed to films from other foreign countries? The question you asked was odd.

You've never heard of A Serbian Film, right? Be thankful.

A lot of people seem to consider movies 4 and 11 of DBZ to be the worst of the films (going off of general reviews and from the unofficial guide that was released by Pojo) although I didn't really find anything wrong with them. I also didn't hate GT, sure it could be considered Toei's attempt to milk the franchise, but to me it was okay.

I like Bulma's "afro" hairstyle...

I like Movie 4. And the Garlic Jr. Saga...

I feel that the Budokai HD Collection is a worthwhile purchase...

I think that the DBZ Orange Bricks aren't so bad...

I like GT more than the Red Ribbon Army arc...

I prefer the replacement scores for the Sparking/Tenkaichi/RB series over the midi-fied Kikuchi soundtrack...

I say that Kai is a vast improvement over the original DBZ in many ways...

The Big Green Dub is my favorite English dub. Not only is it a hoot and funny as all-hell, a couple of the voices actually fit rather well.

This is fun! :D

...I didn't know a lot of those opinions were unpopular.

He's probably referring to the Bardock special. Zarbon was the one who first recommended destroying Planet Vegeta because the saiyans were rapidly growing in strength.
It was actually Beerus disguised as Zarbon #StayWoke
Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

Movie 4 has the best implementation of Super Saiyan.

I like all the most hated Freeza arc filler: the space orphans, fake Namek, and Blooma and the crab.

DEAD TO ME!

Nah, I kind of like them too because they were good fuel for the TFS versions.

You must have nerves of steel because that shit is terrible (Space Orphans is fine though).

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

To be fair, it's nowhere near as bad as dragging the Goku vs Freeza battle out for 19 episodes. Come to think of it, I'm not sure why GafferTape's examples are the most hated filler. There was way worse filler going on in that arc, although Fake Namek is pretty bad.
