A side story is still part of the same timeline as the main story. You're confusing things here.

Side story doesn't even implies different universe at all. It's a story less important than the main story. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Side_story#Spin-off or any other definition.

People should let GT go. The show sucked and I rather have it be view as a side story then be a official part of the manga. Like GT or not, the show did poorly and most fans still don't like it. Besides the writers of this movie don't seem to care about GT neither.

I'm fine with GT being called a 'side-story', but at the same time, I don't really know if I want to 'let it go' per say either. I still feel that it has some great ideas, and in essence still feels like a great way to continue the story to me. It's just when I actually sit down to watch the series that I really recall how horribly those good ideas are actually carried out...

This is correct; "side story" is a totaly distinct concept from the idea of "canon". See http://www.kanzenshuu.com/forum/viewtop ... 66#p640418

That's a very good amount. Unfortunately the yen is weak right now and had the movie come out when Film Z did that $18.7 million would have translated to over $21 million. It should easily pass 3 billion yen mark that Toei was hoping for.
Hmm I don't know how this movie revenue stuff works but isn't that too low? Or am I thinking wrong and 3 billion yen equals around $30 million?

What are you referring to by "isn't that too low"? Do you mean what it's grossed so far (a newer source says $17.9 million)? So far it's doing well.

Yes 3 billion Yen is about $30 million. At the pace it's going it should have no problem surpassing that amount. If it follows the pace of Road to Ninja and Film Z from here on it'd end around $36 million, if it were lucky it could even do $40 million.

I think the movie is doing fine so far and I'm pretty sure this will help Toei make a new DB series or more movies. Super Hero Taisen Z comes out in another few more weeks, I think by the end of April that the hype has died down. We only have four or five more months to go until the movie is out on DVD and Blu-Ray.

They've been correcting coloring-related errors only, like Vegeta having a black armor (instead of white) in some panels.
Drawing errors (like the magically reappearing wristbands during Raditz's battle) are still there.

I was misreading "~$18 million" as yen so I thought there was no way the movie could reach the 3 billion mark. And I don't know how numbers tend to go regarding the following weeks after the first.

How is this actually a discussion to be had in the first place? Do the same people who argue this argue that the sky doesn't appear blue on sunny, clear days? Dragon Ball GT is not in the 1984 comic. Dragon Ball GT is based on events and characters from the comic and other official materials but it is not in the comic and thus has no affect on the comic.

Not sure what the extent to which he worked on GT has to do with anything. Why shouldn't he "call it anything"? I mean, I worked on GT even less than Toriyama, but even I have the right to call it whatever I want.

Anyway, in context he obviously doesn't mean anything negative by it:
Dragon Ball GT is a grand side-story of the original Dragon Ball, and it’ll make me happy for us to watch and enjoy it together.

Good point, i just think he told Gohan that because hes simply just stronger when hes angry and would be a stronger SSJ2.
I know I'm late but I agree with this.

After Gohan transformed into SSJ2, Vegeta immediately says something along the lines of "That runt. He's a lot weaker than he was in the fight with Cell. He's gotten soft during these peaceful times and has neglected his training." This is AFTER Gohan turns SSJ2, meaning that Gohan just was weaker than his SSJ2 form when fighting Cell. To me, that kills any argument about Vegeta and Goku discussing Gohan being weaker because he can't turn SSJ2 since it was discussed of him being weaker while SSJ2 at the tournament.

Because from what we hear of the man, Toriyama is/was just a guy who was trying to get Dragon Ball of his hands by that point. Toei could've been like, "So we want a new series," and his attitude seemed to be "Sure, go 'head, do whatever," as if he wants nothing to really do with it. So, I don't think he should have a say in what it is in relation to Dragon Ball. If anything, Toei's word on GT should matter more than Toriyama's. In other words, if Toei were to say "GT is the possible sequel to how Dragon Ball would've ended up," I'd take that to hold more weight than Toriyama saying "My manga doesn't lead to GT."

So you hate Toriyama, since he himself is the one who called it a side story? :P. It's fact, GT is a side story.
He just disagrees with Toriyama. Never said he hates the man himself. And in his defense, Toriyama isn't very specific. Who knows why he called it a side-story of all things. In fact, he shouldn't call it anything, given he barely did anything with it.
That's kinda the point... Toriyama didn't do anything with it so it can't fit into his original story. Thus, a side story, approved but not directed by him.

The way I see it, I'm pretty sure the creator kinda has the right to say what can and cannot continue off of his main timeline. Toei can say that's their version sure, but AT can be like nope not official.

You can't help but notice that not once in any of those interviews does he give off the feeling that he dislikes GT in any way at all though. It could be stereotypical Japanese politeness of course, but seeing as he finally spoke his mind on Evolution, I'm inclined to think he actually views GT as something at least somewhat worthwhile.

Is that more SD art for the movie I see at the bottom? I guess Ooishi's going to go ahead and do a full SD adaptation of the film?

The scans are from Saikyo Jump; I think the magazine came out about half a week ago, but since it's not as popular as VJump or Weekly Jump, scans took longer to appear.

Dammit, I went to go pick up Weekly Jump from Sanseido on Friday but I forgot about Saikyo Jump...guess I'll just have to grab it this Friday. Thanks!

But back on topic, am I the only one really fangasming about Super Saiyan God? I mean, I can't wait to play Zenkai Battle Royale when I go to Saitama for 2 weeks in July just to play the character. I'd like to include it as a part of the "manga story", but I'm conflicted. Seeing as he's said that he sees the movies as being in an alternate universe...but didn't Toriyama say that BoG (and Yo! Son Goku & Co.) were events that officially took place during time skips?
