Sorry about that guys.
Wost news ever. I'm still hopeful though.Solidus wrote:Well this doesn't look good. AAA Anime, Mail Order Comics, Westfield Comics and Archonia.com have removed their listing for this. Looks like Funimation is either changing something like the release date or cancelling it completely. It's a pity, I was really looking forward to the prospect of the old dub with better picture quality.
Uh, these are two completely different situations. Sparking Omega was some made up nonsense from 2ch that was reported as fact. AAA Anime is a legitimate retailer, as are the other sources that posted it. The fact that Funimation never denied the existence of the product also confirms its' legitimacy. The release has either been canceled or pushed back.dbboxkaifan wrote:Oh god I hope this isn't another Dragon Ball Z: Sparking Omega!! kind of rumour with a lot of anxiety for nothing.
Gonna call it right now and say it's been cancelled. There's no way this release should see the light of day.Super Saiyan Prime wrote:Uh, these are two completely different situations. There's a list a mile long.ABED wrote:Shadowdude, what's wrong with it?
AAA Anime is "A-List", though. I see their logo on nearly every figure I import.DemonRin wrote:My money tho would be on this being a hoax from day 1. I think we'd have SOME Form of corroborating evidence. An A-list retailer listing something, a solicit for July that at least includes the set at some capacity, ANYONE at FUNimation telling us this is a thing that is happening... What I think happened is, someone was able to get a C-List retailer to accept their hoax image, and a whole bunch of other C-List retailers took that as a sign and copied the listing.
A better question is why would you concern yourself with any of those reasons? They don't affect you directly except for the quality of the masters, but that assume a desire to buy those episodes in the first place. If it's a product you want, why would it matter to you if the demand was high enough? Why would rereleasing old episodes reverse all progress? Do you think that if this was successful that they would go back to that style of production (eg badly adapted scripts and heavy editing)?DemonRin wrote:There's a list a mile long.ABED wrote:Shadowdude, what's wrong with it?
1: It will reverse all the progress FUNi has been making as a company and with the Dragon Ball properties by going back to the edited release of yore.
2: It will further muddy the waters with ANOTHER modern release of this material in a market that is already over saturated with options for this arc (Dragon Boxes, Orange Bricks, Level Sets, Kai)
3: They wouldn't be able to offer it uncut, and would most likely need to use their old masters from the mid 90s. How much do you want to bet they haven't held up well?
4: What do they do when they run out of Ocean eps? Do they get the Canadian/European broadcast dub? What do they do to fill in the parts they didn't dub at all? Do they leave the release incomplete at episode "54"?
5: The demand just isn't high enough for it. The extremely high sales on the Orange Bricks is proof enough. The casual fanbase has spoken and they either don't care which cast is being used or are ok with the current cast. The market for this is too niche to really show that much of a profit for.
Just to name a few right off the top of my head.

You're wrong; not everyone grew up with the Funimation dub, us here in the UK got the Ocean Dub as did most Canadians, you also got the folks who like to relive the old dub for nostalgic reasons; there's your demand right there.DemonRin wrote: 5: The demand just isn't high enough for it.
