Little Dub Lines you Love
There's always those phrases and lines made by dubs that are not bad at all.
One of my favorites is in Dragon Ball GT latino dub with Goten and Vegeta.
At Z, Goten called Vegeta, Mr. Vegeta, but in DBGT he calls him Uncle Vegeta.
Also in Latino dub, Vegeta called almost everyone "Insecto" Which translates as Insect or Maggot, everyone until he Softens up, it may be the equivalent to Low Class Clown in english dub.
Eighter also gets a real name "Octavio" I liked that name for him.
Piccolo's last words in Z where "Gohan, Te Quiero" which is Gohan i love you (in spanish, te quiero is used for normal occasions, with friends and such while I love you is used for more intimate relationships".
in the english dub I love Roshi's Last Speech against King Piccolo before dying.
And "You nearly brought the mighty Freeza Down" by Chris Beast Ayres XD.

There's room for only one snake, and one big boss.

One of my favorite moments in the old FUNi dub is when Freeza impales Krillin. As he's torturing him and thrusting him up and down, he yells "Yee-haw! Ride em cowboy!" I just thought that was so deliciously sadistic. Especially with Kikuchi's score playing in the background. Despite being inaccurate, it was a helluva nice touch.

I've always been a tad conflicted on that line. On the one hand, I think it was clearly written in the interest of "punching up the comedy," as was FUNimation's standard practice back then. On the other hand......you're right, that's actually a pretty sick thing to say to someone as you impale them and then continually slide their body up and down the object upon which they're impaled.Big Momma wrote:One of my favorite moments in the old FUNi dub is when Freeza impales Krillin. A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

"DUDE, MY TRUCK!"
It may be censorship but the delivery of it is hysterical.

Re: Little Dub Lines you Love
I've been comparing the subs and dub while I watch my Dragon Ball DVDs and, as expected, a lot of the dialogue is quite different. However here is one piece of dialogue I felt was much better in the dub:
This is when Tien is flipping out and breaking water barrels or whatever after his match with Roshi:
Sub: I don't like him. That old man...I don't like him.
Dub: Curse him... You gave me a victory, but you stole my resolve. I want it back.
Tenshinhan was one of my favorite characters in DB and I think the dub did him credit.
When Roshi is teaching Goku and Krillin the more scholarly part of being a martial artist:
Roshi: A strong body is pointless unless you know how to use it - and that takes brainpower.
Goku: Ohhhh, but I don't have that!

"Look Vegeta, people popcorn!" Perfection.
Edit: And of course Vegeta's reply:
"What is he on?"

A bit cheesy and probably inaccurate as hell but I was a sucker for when Goku said to Freeza "Live with the shock. Keep it bottled up inside of you. Silently."
Especially when Freeza goes to Earth and sees the apparition of Goku and that bit plays again.

This one is also good.SSJJezter wrote:"Look Vegeta, people popcorn!" Perfection.
Vegeta: "Funny... I seem to recall Kakarot being fed the same information right before he transformed; the distinct look on your faces when he went Super Saiyan didn't exactly inspire confidence. One does not predict or calculate power like ours."

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

When Freeza kills Kuririn, he says "Pop goes the weezle!". The way it's said is so twisted!

Yeah, that's the way I see it. Just Freeza's sadistic sense of humor.TheBlackPaladin wrote:I've always been a tad conflicted on that line. Re: Little Dub Lines you Love
Surprised no one has said:
Gohan: Fight you? No, I wanna kill you.
Also a favorite of mine...
King Cold: "Wait. You can't. No. Please. I'm defenseless. Please. I'm not bad. My son was evil, but not I. I wanted nothing but peace. I meant you no harm, I swear it. (Trunks blasts King Cold to death) I'm...I'm telling the truth, noooo!!!"

I think maybe it's Jackson's delivery that makes me love the lines the most. It's such a sniveling and whiny end that you almost feel bad for the guy, even if he is lying through his teeth.

Even though that wasn't in the Japanese version I always liked that.
