That can happen when you get voiced by Jason Biggs in your next incarnation. (Though all jokes aside, he's actually doing better than I expected.)Hades wrote:His career went downhill after 4Kids went bankrupt, and he's largely lived alone with alcohol being his only companion.dbzfan7 wrote:What happened to you Leonardo?
Oh, yeah, that Ocean Kai dub. That. Uh...yeah, I got nothing.

Though I do find these jokes hilarious, I hope people get on-topic here because I expect new info about the dub every time I see this thread getting a new post and feel disappointed after checking it out.

I feel the exact same way. I'm not checking this thread for some Yeti joke.kei17 wrote:Though I do find these jokes hilarious, I hope people get on-topic here because I expect new info about the dub every time I see this thread getting a new post and feel disappointed after checking it out.

To get the Ocean dub we will need to run around the star statue in Peaches castle 1000 times after we get 120 stars. Anyway if Dale Wilson does come back as Cell I wonder if he will be able to retain his campyness while still sounding legitimately good.

I actually kinda wish they got David Kaye to do Cell (I don't think he works with Ocean anymore, so it's too late now assuming they didn't somehow bring him in somehow), I could see him using a toned down version of his Beast Wars Megatron.ringworm128 wrote:To get the Ocean dub we will need to run around the star statue in Peaches castle 1000 times after we get 120 stars. The ironic thing is Dale Wilson used to be something of a mentor to Dameon Clarke, kind of a real life version of the "student surpassing the master" trope IMO. I think if he took some notes from Wakamoto's crazier moments we'd have a decent "campy but good" performance.

David Kaye no longer works with Ocean purely because of geographic reasons (he lives in Los Angeles now).ForestEquilibrium wrote:I actually kinda wish they got David Kaye to do Cell (I don't think he works with Ocean anymore, so it's too late now assuming they didn't somehow bring him in somehow), I could see him using a toned down version of his Beast Wars Megatron.ringworm128 wrote:To get the Ocean dub we will need to run around the star statue in Peaches castle 1000 times after we get 120 stars. I had no idea that Dale Wilson used to mentor Dameon Clarke, though. Where'd you hear that?

I'd heard that they both attended the same voice acting class together, but I had no idea about any mentor-student type of relationship.

It's just something I saw mentioned on his Behind the Voice Actors page where it says he received voice training from him, kind of dubious information since I've yet to see any other source so it's not necessarily something I believe 100%.TheBlackPaladin wrote:David Kaye no longer works with Ocean purely because of geographic reasons (he lives in Los Angeles now).ForestEquilibrium wrote:I actually kinda wish they got David Kaye to do Cell (I don't think he works with Ocean anymore, so it's too late now assuming they didn't somehow bring him in somehow), I could see him using a toned down version of his Beast Wars Megatron.ringworm128 wrote:To get the Ocean dub we will need to run around the star statue in Peaches castle 1000 times after we get 120 stars. If there was a new Cell voice I would want it to be Richard Newman. Now that I think about it if he did voice Cell that would mean that Richard Newman, Tom Wyner and Norio Wakamoto would have all voiced both Cell and M.Bison/Vega in their careers.

If Paul or Michael Dobson weren't already half the cast, I'd suggest one of them as Cell.

Though he's an LA-based actor, I've always felt that Michael McConnohie would've been a perfect Cell. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRAa7Aoxq98

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
I'm really curious as to where this will air. It's obviously not going to air in the UK now that Kix is airing the FUNimation Dub. I'm left to believe it'll air on YTV in Canada, but the block has changed so much since it aired anything Dragon Ball related.
It's practically a sister channel to Nickelodeon with all the Spongebob/Fairly Odd Parents/iCarly they air. There's not a single anime airing on it's afternoon block, The Zone, anymore which is very disheartening. They even reduced the airings to Pokémon to just Saturdays.
Sure Nicktoons aired Dragon Ball Z Kai, but I'm really unsure if YTV would even want another anime series.

I have to agree. I don't really see what TV channels it could air on. Maybe this dub will just go straight to DVD/Blu-ray.Fennekin wrote:I'm really curious as to where this will air. While this is not exactly news, it might be worth noting nonetheless. Alessandro Juliani will be voicing Wolverine in a new animation, courtesy of Brian Drummond's twitter. It would be interesting to see what he would sound like since he hadn't done that many roles and is one of the possible candidates for Goku. Speaking of which, interestingly Kappei Yamaguchi voiced Sonic the hedgehog in the Japanese dubs of the first two cartoons. Samuel Vincent did the singing parts for Sonic in Sonic Underground, the third cartoon. Jaleel White voiced the character for all of the three series in the English version. Whilst it is a long shot that either Vincent or White would be the new voice for Goku, it would be interesting to hear their takes on the character.
Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
But doesn't Funimation control North American DVD/Blu Ray distribution of Dragon Ball? For that to work, they'd have to go through Funimation...would Funimation let them, when they can sell their own version of Kai?Solidus wrote:I have to agree. YTV is a sister network to Nickelodeon. The company that operates Nickelodeon Canada is Corus Entertainment, who happen to own YTV as well as Treehouse, 50% of all the Teletoon networks (including Cartoon Network Canada), and whole load of other channels. Their relationship with Nick is a longstanding one as Nelvana used to distribute Nickelodeon properties outside of North America. Nelvana is of course a subsidiary of Corus Entertainment.Fennekin wrote:I'm really curious as to where this will air. Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
Doesn't make it any better. They literally go overboard with all the Nickelodeon shows so much more than they used to. Not to mention Canada already has a Nickelodeon channel! And just last week, they removed Pokémon from the weekday morning line-up! So now, the show that has been on YTV the longest (Even longer than Spongebob) has been changed to just once a week!Super Saiyan Prime wrote:YTV is a sister network to Nickelodeon. At most, I wish YTV picked one day of the week to air anime on "The Zone" instead of Nickelodeon stuff every day.

Not being too familiar with the Ocean dub, as I haven't seen it other than what we saw first being introduced to it here in the states, as well as clips on Youtube, I don't have much of an opinion, other than imagining Jaleel White as Goku. I just associate him too much as Urkel, and I can't help but imagine him playing Goku, and during one of his childlike antics, does something dumb and goes "Did I do thaaattt?" in his trademark Urkel voice. Though, I suppose since it won't be that dub that I watch primarily, it doesn't affect me, though if White were to voice Goku, I would check it out. As far as the Sonic thing goes, it could be taken as a casting gag since Super Sonic was based off of Super Saiya-Jin, even though White, to my knowledge, never voiced Super Sonic in the series. Basically, as in, he would be voicing two characters, with the capability to transform into a golden, spikier-haired more powerful version of themselves, even though he didn't necessarily voice Super Sonic, the connection in the casting could still be there, if White is indeed cast. Interesting.

Well, White has virtually no chance of getting cast considering he lives in Los Angeles, and not Vancouver.
Having said that, in a "what-if" world, it would be interesting to see what he could do. I actually think he's rather underrated as an actor.

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
Hmmm...It should be possible for a DVD release in the UK but like you said there would be a problem with Canada. I doubt Funimation would allow them to release their DVD's however didn't Funimation release Yu-gi-oh on DVD for 4kids? I know that's different because 4kids actually owned the rights in NA and Funi acted as distributor but maybe something like that could happen, but that's very unlikely though. Although Kirby Morrow did specifically say Canada as one of the countries this dub is being made for, therefore it would have to air on TV. I just can't think of any TV channel that would seem likely to pick it up, CSC media (Kix!) in the UK always showed interest in anime even having their own anime channel at one point. Maybe the producers are having trouble finding a TV channel to air it and that could be why it's taking so long.Mewzard wrote:But doesn't Funimation control North American DVD/Blu Ray distribution of Dragon Ball? Did Funimation give a reason as to why they got Ocean productions to do the TV edits for Kai or were they even asked?
Yea, the other thing is Brian Drummond voiced Knuckles in Sonic Underground so you'd also have that to play on during the Goku vs Vegeta fight.WesMan23 wrote:Not being too familiar with the Ocean dub, as I haven't seen it other than what we saw first being introduced to it here in the states, as well as clips on Youtube, I don't have much of an opinion, other than imagining Jaleel White as Goku. Yea, I was talking hypothetically. He just stood out to me from the other actors(outside Canada) that voiced the same roles as Kappei Yamaguchi. I think he'd be able to pull off Goku's character but how he'd approach the voice is something that would be interesting. It's a pity he never really walked out of the shadow of Family Matters.TheBlackPaladin wrote:Well, White has virtually no chance of getting cast considering he lives in Los Angeles, and not Vancouver.
