Piccolo doesn't look right on the Orange Bricks "Season 7"

I just don't see any discernible logic in the covers. The art style, the character, nothing. "Season One" has post-Buu, 2000's-style Vegeta (purple hair and all), whereas "Season Six" has Super Saiyan Goku, Freeza-arc style. WUT.

The Dragon Ball sets are a little better, though "MAXU POWAA!!" Kame'sennin seems an odd choice.

Well, Freeza and Trunks fit for seasons 3 and 4. Cell does for 5 as well, although I would have picked his Imperfect form. Not sure why they went with Goku and Piccolo for seasons 6 and 7 though.

Eh? It was still 'Scouter' Vegeta on the cover of Season One I think, wasn't it? Sure it was newer art rather than the old artstyle actually present in the show, but it's not like they slapped on Boo-arc Vegeta on the cover or something.

They probably didn't have any good "newer style" art for Saiyaman or SSJ2 Gohan at the time so they had to recycle some "generic" images of the usual characters instead, seeing as that Piccolo is the same image from one of the Ultimate Uncut volumes (Season Two Goku is the same deal). That SSJ Goku image from Season Six was also reused in the Vol. 3 Dragonbook (this time in proper placement).

It's all about licensing issues. Toei gives FUNI a stockpile of images that they can use legally, and then FUNI chooses which ones go where.

For single character covers, I would have gone with:

-Keep the DB covers as they are, except maybe put Bulma on Season 1

Z:
-Season 1 - Piccolo Jr
-Season 2 - Vegeta
-Season 3- Freeza, first form
-Season 4 - Trunks
-Season 5 - Imperfect Cell
Season 6 - Gohan
-Season 7 - Great Saiyaman
-Season 8 - Majin Buu
-Season 9 - Vegetto

GT:
-Season 1: Pan
-Season 2: SSJ4 or base Goku
