It's definitely true. I think it was confirmed in an interview with one of the VA's.TheBlackPaladin wrote:Do we have any confirmation that CN turned it down, or is that an assumption? Either way, as others have noted....CN's loss. A small part of me hopes they've paid attention to what they missed out on, and will be open to putting more anime on their network.

I wouldn't put it beyond CN to turn it down. These are the same idiots who cancelled Sym-Bionic Titans, a very-well received show made by the creator of Dexter's Laboratory, because it wasn't marketable.TheBlackPaladin wrote:Do we have any confirmation that CN turned it down, or is that an assumption? Cartoon Network is on the right path. Focusing on their original programming (y'know, like Fuji TV, TV Toukyou, and Asahi do) is what makes money and art they actually own.

Re: Sean Schemmel confirms Buu Saga dubbing in interview
They used to have a lot of GOOD original programming. Remember the days of Dexter's Lab, Ed Edd n Eddy, Powerpuff Girls, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Johnny Bravo, Codename: Kids Next Door, Megas XLR, etc? Those were good days. They also had stuff like Toonami with many great shows.JulieYBM wrote:Cartoon Network is on the right path. I don't mind Kai staying on Nicktoons/Vortexx, but since you already have them on two channels, why not give an even more uncut version out on Toonami on Adult Swim. Modern Adult Swim is less sucky than Modern Cartoon Network, especially when it comes to anime.
Even if it's not always marketable, companies should keep up a few ratings darlings to keep the fanbase happy, because if they leave over stuff like that, it just ends up hurting you in the long run.

I'd rather Kai be on Adult Swim. The script would probably be better, because they're not jumping back and forth between different versions of multiple lines.

Re: Sean Schemmel confirms Buu Saga dubbing in interview
Adult Swim alone won't bring in the mass audience, and I can't imagine doing a few alt lines is all that time consuming. Plus, their alt lines are better than the terrible scripts they wrote for DBZ.

Adult Swim may not do that since old fans who don't know any better will complain about changes to their crappy dub.ABED wrote:Adult Swim alone won't bring in the mass audience, and I can't imagine doing a few alt lines is all that time consuming. As much as CN is run by chumps now, half of those shows are garbage. I'll take Adventure Time, Gumball, and Regular Show over most of them. Unfortunately, those are the only three shows on CN that are even good (okay, TT Go is kind of decent, even though they cancelled Young Justice for it... not that I was ever into YJ to begin with).Mewzard wrote:They used to have a lot of GOOD original programming. Seriously, there are fans of Codename: Kids Next Door? That show was crap. Johnny Bravo was the same one joke over and over again. Megas XLR got old fast. I never liked Courage.

The same could be said of Gumball and Regular Show. Adventure Time is decent at best. It's not especially clever, just really random. Plus, the protagonist has no personality to speak of, so Jake is the only reason to watch (he's essentially a kid-friendly Bender). It's all preference.penguintruth wrote:As much as CN is run by chumps now, half of those shows are garbage. I'll take Adventure Time, Gumball, and Regular Show over most of them.
So, uh... how 'bout that DBZ Kai?

Well, kei17 did hint that there would be a new soundtrack (he talked to one of the staff members). At the very least, the score appears to be something other than recycled Shunsuke Kikuchi or Hiroshi Takaki tracks. Based on the conversation that followed, my guess is that Norihito Sumitomo from Battle of Gods will handle the music.
The thread is here if you want to skim through (kei17 comes in on page 2):

I'd rather have Kikuchi... do new music!

"CW (5/11)
1. Justice League Unlimited, 9:30 AM – 1.173 million viewers, 0.35 A18-49, 1.01 K6-11
2. Dragon Ball Z, 10 AM – 1.044 million viewers, 0.28 A18-49, 0.97 K6-11"
Bleach normally hits around that 1 million view level, do you think Kai would do less than that? I'd think they could easily hit a matching number of viewers on the new Toonami for something like Dragon Ball.
I'll give you that KND wasn't that good, and Johnny Bravo was a bit of a recurring joke, but Courage the Cowardly Dog was an amazing series, and Megas XLR never got old. Hell, I'm still waiting to see how George Krstic's attempts at getting the rights to Megas XLR back and possibly continue go. Really hoping it works out (that show was meant for the older audience, so AS really fits it).penguintruth wrote:As much as CN is run by chumps now, half of those shows are garbage. Toonami's already got the Big 3, throwing on Kai, Megas, maybe Toriko, swap out Inuyasha for the Final Act when it concludes, and there will be plenty to work with for fans. They just really need to fight to get the first few hours of AS' Saturday so they can broaden their audience a bit more.

If FUNimation wanted to branch out onto another channel, I'd have to pick [adult swim] over Cartoon Network. Cartoon Network's current target audience is so different to what it was back when they first aired Z.
Re: Sean Schemmel confirms Buu Saga dubbing in interview
Adult Swim and Cartoon Network share the same channel. Adult Swim goes on from 8 PM to 5AM Central, the rest is CN. AS needs to give the rest of Saturday to Toonami. Toonami has 11PM-5AM Central, but having 8PM on would give them more of an audience to work with and more slots to air shows. Open Toonami/AS with uncut Kai at 8PM?
