Okay other then that one, it seem like most shows from that time remove references of death from what I've seen. Voltron didn't had characters die unlike GoLion from what I can remember.

Going by the title by this thread then maybe the 80's since Dragon Ball started in 1984.

I think the fact that his theory reminds you both of different cartoons from that timeframe speaks volumes.

No, it just means that I watched Ninja Turtles, but what kid didn't?

There were a few, but mostly not a lot, with one death being changed in its circumstances. In GoLion, King Alfor was executed along with his wife and children by Zarkon's order, whereas in Voltron he was killed in an offscreen duel with Zarkon, so he went out fighting there. Also due to the episodes made for America, that's why the villains just went into exile rather than being killed in the last eps that were originally GoLion.
And while I've never seen
Macross, and I haven't watched a lot of
Robotech since the 80s, I recall hearing that some guys bit it in
Robotech but didn't in
Macross. Similar to some guys getting offed in PR, but not their Sentai counterparts. (Yeah that's more of an adaptation change similar to Maria surviving but Juliet not, but still).

My post didn't have anything to do with who did/didn't watch TMNT :/
When
aarondirebear posted his description of what it might be, you both replied:

That led me to believe that his "typical 80s cartoon" description reminded you both of two separate 80s cartoons, which gave a tiny bit of credibility to it. And I found that pretty funny

Those were two of the biggest cartoons of that era, not neccessarily typical. Again, not every cartoon were TMNT or He-Man even in the 80s, and there's such a thing as bucking a trend. He-Man was the cartoon that spawned from a toyline, not TMNT. This thread just seems like "hey, let's bash American cartoons." It reminds me of those conversations when people compare American TV and British TV. So many people seem to love to put down American TV. If it's American, it's somehow inferior.
Yes, American cartoons did have a tendency to have stand alone plots, but the very nature of Dragon Ball was that of a quest, so there would still be an overarching plot to it. I don't think status quo would always be maintained. There are only 7 dragon balls. DB was based on a manga that relied heavily on continuity. Are we assuming Dragon Ball starts out as a cartoon? This seems so silly and just an excuse to bash American cartoons.
As for American cartoons not showing or discussing death, the final episode of David the Gnome had David and his wife dying.

I remember a few adventure-y cartoons back in the day, so the Dragon Ball Hunt would probably be the overarching plot of the series.

I wonder if it'd be like Jackie Chan Adventures's hunt?

I'm American. I grew up with those cartoons, and I love them. (Heck, I even have the first few volumes of TMNT on DVD...which reminds me I need to get the rest) But you can't deny that, much like anime, American cartoons (especially ones from the "Saturday Morning" era) have their own "tropes" and whatnot that show up in a lot of those shows. It's not a bad thing in the least. It just makes sense to guess that an "Americanized" Dragon Ball in 1980s America would also have many of those tropes.

There are many more examples than just He-Man and Ninja Turtles. Hey remember that episode of Tale Spin where Baloo finally got his plane back and it WASN'T suddenly taken away from him again by the end of the episode? Golly, I sure don't!

Not if we are still talking 80s'...last I checked, Jackie Chan Adventures was mid-90's.

2000-2005 actually. Whichever it would've gone, hopefully it would've been better than
these abominations thatthankfully never got made.
