Happy Father's Day! Japanese Fans Vote Goku as Coolest Dad!

Goku came at #1 while Vegeta came at #4
I think I had to laugh  after seeing these results, Goku's hardly home, is either training, and leaves his family to train Uub.

LMAO  . Goku the best father? That made my day. Vegeta is a better father than he is.

These threads are always a delight, but I think the poll was essentially "your favorite character who just happens to be a dad."

Big Boss is a better father than Goku, and that's saying a lot.

I suppose "coolest" doesn't always mean "best".

Pretty much this.

Great, another thread where everyone can once again state they think Goku is the worst parent of all time. :| He's better than lots of parents in real life. At least he loves his son and actually shows it, and it's not as though he's abusive, even though I've seen people state that he is, or "basically" is.

'Cuz we all know Goku was trying to kill Gohan.

Unless there's some retcon BS in MGS4, in which case I haven't played it, so I'd appreciate no spoilers. :silent:

People exaggerate his incompetence as a Father.

Come on, Goku isn't THAT bad as a father. He's only away when he absolutely has to be and he at least waited until his sons were grown up to run off with Oob. Yes, he's made mistakes, but what parent doesn't?

He hit his son a number of times, he rarely if ever showed affection, much less love, and he's a piss poor excuse for a role model. Yeah, he's a GREAT father.

It's not like he didn't love his family. His biggest crime as a father was when he decided to stay dead after Cell.

He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. Maybe but not by a huge margin. It's kind of sad when your own arch-rival cares more about your eldest son dying at the hands of a over-stuffed pile of bubblegum than you do.

Vegeta was all like: "You're the monster who killed Gohan?! :x "

Whereas Goku was all like: "You're Majin Boo?! Let's play! Imma gonna show off Supah Saiya-jin 3!! 8) "

BTW the Japanese Fans voted for coolest father not the best. There's a distinction. I mean, he's callous but he's martial artist master and you can learn a lot from him.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

Goku has been dead for 8 years, and it was fucking awesome from his point of view, not to mention that with the Dragon Balls, death was like going for a vocation.

Honestly, Vegeta's a pretty good dad. Goku means well, but he's just too naive.

I've typically thought of Goku as the ultimate example of a deadbeat dad, but reading this thread has made me think twice about that. He's not the best father in the world, but I've heard of worse....both in real life and in anime.*

*Lookin' at you, Gendo Ikari.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Abandon your family at the drop of a hat?

Congratulations, you're an awesome dad. Just make sure you let your son keep that dragon.
