I get that. Not everyone will think Goku is the best character in the series, and I can see how some people could get annoyed at what you call "preferential treatment" and would love to knock him down a notch (Although to be fair, Goku IS the main character, so of course Toriyama would go out of his way to make him as likable as possible). But then, compare Goku to Kuririn, or to Gohan. Both of them are better fathers than Goku and Vegeta combined. I just don't see the need to suddenly turn Vegeta into a great father when the series has much better examples of great dads. I agree that Goku is not a great dad, but from there, to say he's a deadbeat father is a bit much. I know people with deadbeat fathers who'd love to have half the love Gohan and Goten got from Goku ...anyways, all of this is just my opinion, of course...Rocketman wrote:Because the series trips all over itself to shout URRG GOKU, YOU'RE THE BEST, YOU CAN DO ANYTHING WE LOVE YOU GOKUUUU no matter how much of an asshole he's being.
Vegeta never gets preferential or reverential treatment, so there's no urge to knock him off his pedestal.

Yes, Goku visited me once. He turned to me while I was still speechless, and said, "You've drank too much"...

I guess it's hard to be a father when you're still a child, and we all know that Goku is a kid inside. But I don't think that makes him the worst father at all. He does what he can.
And Vegeta is a good father, too.

Quite often psychopats liked animals, like Hitler. To be honest, i think 18&Kuririn are best parents, because they gived Marron love, and teach the way of getting easy money

Which is quite the character derail. I mean, FFS, imagine any serial killer, whether it is Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer or Andrei Chikatilo. Now imagine a whole species and civilisation like them, give them superpowers and that's what the Saiyans were like. How does Vegeta suddenly tuen from being one of the most depraved and ruthless members of that species and civilisation, into an assimilated alien on Earth within three years?DBZAOTA482 wrote:Excuse me but Vegeta is hardly a mass-murdering psychopath post-Freeza Saga. Re: Happy Father's Day! Japanese Fans Vote Goku as Coolest D
Vegeta never expresses any remorse for the slaughter of billions, so you can plausibly say that he never got better and just got bored of killing planets. Pragmatically, there's no real reason to make a fuss on Earth for him; he has free food, shelter, training equipment, a hot genius girlfriend, and strong guys to fight. This is supported by his cold blooded murder of hundreds of people after he had supposedly softened up, and just how quickly he decides to doom the universe just for the sake of having a higher power level.
The Monkey King wrote:It was actually Beerus disguised as Zarbon #StayWokeRandomGuy96 wrote:He's probably referring to the Bardock special. Zarbon was the one who first recommended destroying Planet Vegeta because the saiyans were rapidly growing in strength.dbgtFO wrote: Please elaborate as I do not know what you mean by "pushing Vegeta's destruction"
Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

Didn't he do that because he hated the fact that he'd softened up over the years and wanted to return to his evil ways? Not because his ~evilness~ remained and he just found a purpose for killing again. I think that Vegeta initially got bored with killing/didn't see any purpose in killing things on Earth, but eventually grew a conscience and/or didn't want to kill anymore because of his family.RandomGuy96 wrote:This is supported by his cold blooded murder of hundreds of people after he had supposedly softened up, and just how quickly he decides to doom the universe just for the sake of having a higher power level.
Didn't you know, the truck driver got out of there safely.
On the topic, I think that Chi Chi got the worst deal tbh. Yeah yeah, she tricked Goku into marriage, she knew what she was getting into etc, but I still don't think she deserved what she got. Goku may not be a bad father, but he's most definitely a bad husband.

Clearly he wasn't soft enough because he MURDERED thousands and did it with a smile on his face.
Chichi's also a bad wife. She's more interested in the idea of being a wife than being with a man she truely loves.

A grandchild isn't a child. Very different expectations. She had her parents and Goku wasn't her legal guardian. But he couldn't care less about leaving his granddaughter behind.

Well, that was kinda the point, he was supposed to revert back to his old self. Fucking hell, he almost killed his own wife. He didn't exactly seem sane to me, just like he was before and during Namek.
Didn't Vegeta say he regretted what he did at the World Tournament? I'm not sure.
I agree that Chichi was wrong for marrying Goku just because of her traditional values, but she did love Goku and gave him two sons. I mean, the least Goku could do was stick around, and he failed to do that, especially when he ran off with Uub. It would have been interesting to see Chichi marry someone else post-Cell, she was after all a widow.

Chichi as a mother was great, she always wanted her son to do well with his studies and succeed in life than be some criminal thug like Piccolo (he used to be a villain).Chichi's also a bad wife. She's more interested in the idea of being a wife than being with a man she truely loves.
Although, as a wife it's hard to tell because Goku was never around and we can say firmly she never had an affair.

Oh, he was just trying to provoke Goku? "Damn it, Kakarrotto. Stop making me kill people!" Whaaaa...?
Vegeta himself admitted (and showed) that Babidi had no control over him. Even if he did, Vegeta willingly succumbed to it, fully aware of its implications. So either way, he's responsible for his own actions. Either way, you don't seem to be denying that he killed those hundreds of people, which is the textbook definition of a mass-murderer: ie. someone who murders masses of people. So saying he is not a mass murderer after the Freeza arc is simply inaccurate.
And, no, Vegeta saw the truck there. Vegeta fired a blast in its direction. Vegeta is responsible.

Re: Happy Father's Day! Japanese Fans Vote Goku as Coolest D
I don't get the sense that Chichi married Goku and got her ideas about what marriage was from tradition. It seems like she saw a bunch of tv shows and magazines that portrayed married life and got her idea of what it was supposed to be.
Goku was around for the first five years, the 3 year stretch of training for the cyborgs and was around between the time he defeated Buu and fought Uub. It just seems like less.
Wanting your child to do well doesn't make someone a great mother. She seemed like she didn't care about his happiness at all. At 4 he was probably doing math problems that would've gone over my head when I was in 9th grade and she pitched a fit when he took any time off. She was a tiger mom.dbboxkaifan wrote:Chichi as a mother was great, she always wanted her son to do well with his studies and succeed in life than be some criminal thug like Piccolo (he used to be a villain).Chichi's also a bad wife.
