All the new remastered levels of DBZ are great but why even make it in blu ray if the ratio is not 16:9. Hardly anyone has tube televisions anymore so thats almost in a way what you are watching. Even the remastered dvd versions are in 16:9. It just doesnt make any sense. Its like an oxymoron. You get it in bluray but you also are looking a picture that should be on a tube television.

Re: FUNimation "DBZ on Blu-Ray" Survey
We have to be very realistic about it. The fact that FUNimation is even asking what aspect ratio they prefer would indicate that they are looking for a marketing profit whether we like it or not. We are in minority group compared to the American fan base. Yes, they released Dragon Box. Yes, they released the Level sets. But both the releases weren't even selling. They are looking for a way to get the market going.
I'm sure they are aware that the DBZ TV series was meant to be seen on 4:3 ratio. A proof of that is Dragon Box, Kai, and Level. All of them were presented in 4:3. FUNimation is not the same company that they used to be, but at the same time they also have to be realistic about it. They have to figure out how to make a profit in any possible way, even if it means to release them in 16:9.
I know it's not pretty that they asked which ratio they want for the release, so we will just have to wait and see. FUNimation is just a company. They need money.

Re: FUNimation "DBZ on Blu-Ray" Survey
I suppose I should go ahead and answer this survey, as a DBZ fan, even though I don't really have any interest in buying the series again on Bluray (I'd rather just pick up the rest of the Boxes). That said though -
- While I get where it's coming from, comments like this one are making me want to be a total asshat and vote in favor of 16:9. I get that you're just joking on the comment probably, but SERIOUSLY? Nothing FUNi has ever done, ever, warrants that kind of response IMO. I also don't see how them asking would be 'disrespectful' either. It's better that they ask, and perhaps get the answer that most people don't want it widescreen, then them NOT asking and just using the 16:9 prints they likely still have on hand, right?
Geez, I get that a bunch of you do want to upgrade from your Dragon Boxes to Bluray sets or something, or just never got the Boxes - but the series has been released time, and time, and time again. Even if this new one somehow turns out to be 16:9 again - which no, even though I'm severely tempted to just to be a dick, I'll be voting against that and in favor of the original aspect ratio - it's not the end of the world. At all.
AjayLikesGaming wrote:Oh yeah, I should probably add, if you answered 16:9, I will find you and I will dip your genitals in hot oil. Why they would even ask that question is beyond me. They may as well have written 'Do you want the artist's intention or our shitty crop job'.

That's just it though, I could say the same about this release regardless of how it turns out, since - again - we've already gotten at least two perfectly legitimate ways to own the entire series. All I'm trying to say is that outrage to that level over any kind of DVD release seems pretty silly to me (and this is coming from a guy who practically sees red every time Aniplex licenses something since they're akin to highway robbery).AjayLikesGaming wrote:It's a waste of everyone's time though.Gyt Kaliba wrote: it's not the end of the world. I will never understand this... Why people stick to this old format? (DVD Video) We all now have HDTVs/Full HD monitors. What is the reason to use source which is 1/7 size of 1080p?

Re: FUNimation "DBZ on Blu-Ray" Survey
I love Blu Ray as much as the next person, but I have so many DVDs that a better picture isn't enough to get me to upgrade. It would be very expensive to upgrade my entire collection, especially when DVD is an excellent format.

Re: FUNimation "DBZ on Blu-Ray" Survey
because a lot of people don't even know what Blu-ray is. They're like, "No, I'll stick with regular." I say, "Why's that?" I'm then told, "I don't even know what a Blu-ray is." I explain it to them and how many more movies are coming out on Blu-ray and how the selection for DVDs (in my store) is shrinking. It's kind of a 50/50 response at this point of, "Well, if that's the case, I might as well," or, "I don't even buy movies anymore! Now give me a DVD player and tell me where the new movies are!"Kojiro Sasaki wrote:But end of the world may be cut off!Gyt Kaliba wrote:it's not the end of the world. At all.

People are really stubborn. Same goes for the Wii U. "But I already bought a Wii!" "How long ago?" "It think I got it in 2008." "Don't you remember gaming as a kid when new consoles would come out?"

Not really, the releases we've had so far are either shit or outrageously priced since they're out of print. There's some of us who would actually like to have the series in a modern format and this is the first opportunity we've had to potentially get that. I'm sorry you don't seem to think it's something important but to those who would actually like to see this happen, it is important.Gyt Kaliba wrote:That's just it though, I could say the same about this release regardless of how it turns out, since - again - we've already gotten at least two perfectly legitimate ways to own the entire series. I'm not saying it's not important - all I'm trying to say is that your reaction is a little much, regardless of the circumstance.AjayLikesGaming wrote:Not really, the releases we've had so far are either shit or outrageously priced since they're out of print. And the Season Sets, regardless of anyone's personal feelings to them, are still a legitimate way to own the series. As are the superior Dragon Boxes, which are, as you said, unfortunately out of print now. But they weren't at one time. One could have gotten hold of those quite easily as they trickled out, had they really been that opposed to being stuck with the Season Sets otherwise. But that's neither here nor there, especially since I understand money can be an issue regardless of how bad someone might want to nab things as they come out - my main point here is about the overreaction.

I'm up in arms because, sadly, there are people out there in the world who legitimately think that reacting that way over a DVD release is fine, and it gets old fast. If you actually meant it as just a joke, I still find it a poor one, but eh, at least I know you're not among the crazies then.AjayLikesGaming wrote:Of course it's a little much, it's a stupid joke.
