Who designed Gogeta?
Who designed Gogeta?
Was it Toriyama ? I found a picture drawn by him and was wondering if he designed him like the other movies' characters (Broly/Slug/Bojack/etc.).
This is the picture:

I read that he was in 1 comment [where?], but I want more opinions on it.

Yamamuro Tadayoshi was character designer and animation supervisor for the twelfth movie.

And as a follow-up, that image was done way after the movie was released. Just like with the SS4 Goku drawing Toriyama did for Dragon Box GT, he drew an image of Gogeta for Dragon Box Za Movies.
Re: who designed gogeta ?
The final design of Janemba was from Toriyama so he did have a hand in the movie.JulieYBM wrote:Yamamuro Tadayoshi was character designer and animation supervisor for the twelfth movie.

Yes, but it doesn't mention that he did anything else, and that's something I doubt they would neglect to mention. I don't have the Dragon Box for the movies, though; the "Design Lab" section in the accompanying Dragon Book would probably answer that question conclusively.sintzu wrote:The final design of Janemba was from Toriyama so he did have a hand in the movie.JulieYBM wrote:Yamamuro Tadayoshi was character designer and animation supervisor for the twelfth movie.

Wow, didn't know Toriyama ever drew Gogeta! And I see a very skinny SS Goku. Again.
If we're to trust Toriyama's Contributions to the Anime @ Kanzenshuu, Toriyama only approved Yamamuro's design of 2nd form Janenba.sintzu wrote:The final design of Janemba was from Toriyama so he did have a hand in the movie.

There's so much I wanted to contribute to this discussion, but I'm a little busy this morning. So, in turn, I'll just leave this here.SaiyaJedi wrote:I don't have the Dragon Box for the movies, though; the "Design Lab" section in the accompanying Dragon Book would probably answer that question conclusively.
Also, Yamamuro did discuss Janenba in his "Golden Warrior" interview.
Often the pattern was that we’d have [Toriyama] sensei look at the rough designs we had drawn and add corrections. For instance, with the transformed Janenba (note: the enemy character from "The Rebirth of Fusion!! Goku and Vegeta"), the order from the anime staff was for a "demonic-looking character", so I drew a rough design with spiral shapes entwined around his arms and legs, which I showed to sensei. He checked it and sent it back, and that became the real design for transformed Janenba. So the faint blood vessel-like things on his arms and legs are remnants of the rough draft.

Thanks for the quote, but I couldn't find a good translation for it. So does anyone here know good Japanese ?Hujio wrote:There's so much I wanted to contribute to this discussion, but I'm a little busy this morning. Just so you know, there's "Shift" button on your keyboard, right? Proper nouns and proper adjectives are always capitalized. There's a reason why moderators corrected your posts with red font color.sintzu wrote:thanks for the quote but i couldn't find a good trnaslation for it so does anyone here know good japanese ?Hujio wrote:There's so much I wanted to contribute to this discussion, but I'm a little busy this morning. Anyway, I've known for a while that Yamamuro designed Janemba. Not sure about Gogeta, though. It's probably Yamamuro again since he's a chief designer for the remainder of DBZ after Maeda left.
Edit: D'oh. I never looked at the link sintzu posted. It's definitely from Toriyama.

Does it really matter who designed him? He's just adult Gotenks with one bang.
