Man, I just think Young's voice work for Freeza is a complete non-fit, regardless of gender. I'm sure a proper female actress could nail it if given the chance, but seeing how we have Chris Ayres (and to a greater extent, Ryusei Nakao) I can't be prompted to care much either way.

Remember Pauline Newstone voiced Freeza in the 1996-98 dub? BIG mistake by Saban IMO.

Then we would get a worse dub. Kai is a godsend compared to the old dub. Having some of those old crappy voices and stereotypes would just bring the quality down. I just hope the acting picks up as towards the end it seemed to be getting weaker. Kara is going to get rid of the Goten rasp I hear and apparently even she understood that no kid sounds like that (I'm looking at you Nadonly Gohan) and I don't know anything about Laura Bailey.

I don't know of any boy that sounds like Nadolny either. Seeing as how DB is pure fantasy, and the performances are excellent, I'll suspend disbelief.

I don't really care if Clinkenbeard's Luffy sounded anything like her Goku or Gohan, she gives a good performance and I don't like Nadolny's Goku. The cadence to her delivery bothers me and her Krusty laugh is Janice from Friends level annoying, but without the virtue of being intentionally funny.

Oh c'mon now - NOTHING is as annoying as Janice. Not even Fran Drescher is that annoying voice-wise, so there's no way in heck that Nadolny's was anywhere near that.

Janice is annoying, in that funny way. Fran Drescher is genuinely annoying. Yes, Nadolny was THAT bad. To quote Joey, "I wanted to rip my arm off just so I had something to throw at her!"

I never thought Nadolny was bad in the role, but her laughter and crying always felt forced and unconvincing to me.

The consensus seems to be that people prefer her as Goku to Gohan, which baffles me.

I like her Gohan and Goku equally but I suppose some people would think her deeper voice is more fitting since Kid Goku is much older then Kid Gohan . Though the reason I never go on about how they should bring back Nadalony as Gohan is because none of the problems that Clinkenbeard's Goku has are with her Gohan.

The fact that Nadolny's voice for Gohan is too deep for a kid that age doesn't bother me. The sound and texture of her voice gets to me, plus I'm not overly fond of her acting ability.

I've already gone on about it in the past but Clinkenbeard's Goku is just obnoxious sounding. The only characteristic she puts in is "Goku is wild". She doesn't make Goku sound like a naive pure hearted boy who lives in the woods, she makes him sound like some annoying brat with ADD who's just downed a whole bunch of red kool aid and will crack it if you don't buy him a hot wheels set.

I was watching GT in English a week back (it's the only of the three I like in English)and found I actually didn't mind Nadolny...She did have some passion to her voice in it.

Not even remotely. The unnatural sound to her delivery, and that laugh I'm glad she had passion, but that doesn't make up for the lack of talent in that role.

I don't like her performance at all. I don't hear what you hear from Clinkenbeard. Goku is full of energy and is a jungle boy, so it's not completely out character. Besides, we only heard her for one film. Clinkenbeard is a great actress, so I think she would've improved as time went on.

Which is exactly why my dislike for Colleen's Goku is pretty minimal - I know she's an amazing actress, and we only have so little of her in the role to work with (movie 1 and, what, flashbacks in Kai?), so who's to say she wouldn't be an even better kid Goku if we got more of her in the role to work.

I just don't see the hate for Nadolny, especially for Goku, either though. I've heard far more grating voices in dubs that are considered good by and large, but I guess in the end it all comes down to opinion anyway.

True, and I accept the different opinions, I'm just surprised by them sometimes. The fact that there are more grating voices doesn't make Nadolny any better.

Some folks just don't like change. I remember a few guys complaining about the first live-action Transformers movie on how they didn't get Frank Welker back for Megatron. As well as having to explain why they didn't have the original Starscream.
