I don't think it's a case of "it's different so it sucks" (which I try to avoid) since I liked every other recast almost or just as much as the original.

That can be forgiven if they genuinely didn't know Chris Latta had died but, really, the live action movies aren't the cartoon, so the inclusion of original voice actors did absolutely nothing to improve my opinion of the movie when I watched it. I didn't hate it like most people hate Dragonball Evolution, I judged it on its own merits and I didn't particularly like it. Some disconnected reasons I dislike the live action movies is because Paramount has somehow gained control of the original cartoon movie from 87 simply because it was originally released in theatres and is keeping it out of print so as not to take away from the "Bayformers" movies. Then there is the inexplicable decision to make Bumblebee unable to talk in Transformers Prime.Super Sonic wrote:Some folks just don't like change. I remember a few guys complaining about the first live-action Transformers movie on how they didn't get Frank Welker back for Megatron.]
Where Frank Welker is concerned, I believe there was some press snippets about how they didn't even approach Welker because they felt his voice hadn't aged well. Watch Transformers Prime, there is nothing wrong with his Megatron.
As well as having to explain why they didn't have the original Starscream.
It would be like taking the worst part of characterization in DBE and applying it to every incarnation of that character going forward.

^To be fair, the two guys who wrote the first live-action Transformers movie are also the show-runners for Transformers Prime.
As for the topic at hand... I'm definitely glad Colleen Clinkenbeard was cast as Gohan in Kai. Part of what REALLY bugged me in Funimation's DBZ dub was her voice. Gohan cries a lot, and that scratchy voice just multiplied the irritation there tenfold. She bugs me less as Goku, as others have said, but the laugh still sticks out like a sore thumb.
Generally, Kai probably wouldn't have as much value in my mind as it does with the (admittedly minor) casting changes.

I wouldn't say recasting multiple major characters (Gohan, Freeza, Bulma) is quite "minor," though it was appreciated regardless, at least in the case of Freeza and Bulma (I'm fine with both Clinkenbeard and Nadolny's work).CaBrPi wrote:Generally, Kai probably wouldn't have as much value in my mind as it does with the (admittedly minor) casting changes.
EDIT: Also, 18, while more of a minor character, was definitely an improvement with Clinkenbeard's work in the role.

Isn't BoG post Boo arc? Yes it ismany hardcore fans wanted the old cast instead of the new ones sans Linda Young
A female voice Freeza in the Korean dub. Through she a great actor, the voice doesn't fit. Sounds good to hear but don't fit.I'm sure a proper female actress could nail it if given the chance, but seeing how we have Chris Ayres
Korean Gohan(Champ Dub) would beg a differ. To be fair no actual boy sounds like Nozawa or Clinkenbeard.
If the Kai was redubbed by original cast I would only hate Steph's and Linda Young. Even through Most of the cast returned so it would't make a huge difference. Now if this was the Latin American dub then that's a WHOOOOOLE NEW STORY.

I meant in terms of quantity. Most of the main characters kept their old voice actors.Storm wrote:I wouldn't say recasting multiple major characters (Gohan, Freeza, Bulma) is quite "minor," though it was appreciated regardless, at least in the case of Freeza and Bulma (I'm fine with both Clinkenbeard and Nadolny's work).CaBrPi wrote:Generally, Kai probably wouldn't have as much value in my mind as it does with the (admittedly minor) casting changes.
