Super Saiyan... or...Super Aryan?
Super Saiyan... or...Super Aryan?
I always associated these two terms with each other and the myth goes that Super Saiyan's are a subliminal message of the Nazi ideological view of the supposed "Master Aryan Race."
Do you believe this, or is this just a complete coincidence?

Yes, all Super Saiyan characters are actually supposed to be Nazis, with Goku being Hitler. This is a known fact.

Re: Super Saiyan... or...Super Aryan?
Well, the idea of a golden-haired warrior is a staple in Japanese storytelling actually, if I remember correctly. Furthermore, their eyes are green, not blue. The big penchant for the Aryan race was blonde hair, blue eyes. As such, I don't necessarily believe that Super Saiyans have any, even tangential, relation to the arch-type.
Though the dub of Movie 12 is pretty fantastic in that regard, what with "The Dictator" making a joke about how, instead of fighting the blond haired, "blue" eyed fighters (Trunks and Goten), they should be recruiting them. A very tongue in cheek, witty rewrite that I think fit well with the scene.

Super Saiyans have GREEN eyes, damn it.
Anyway, it is interesting to note that Nazi Germany was fond of Japan's homogenous demographics, probably why they teamed up in WWII. Look at Karl Haushofer's book, Japan Und Die Japaner.

No, that's commonly claimed among Western DB fans, but it's not actually true. It might be a misunderstanding of the legend of Kintaro, the "golden boy", but he just had regular old black hair.KaiserNeko wrote:Well, the idea of a golden-haired warrior is a staple in Japanese storytelling actually, if I remember correctly.

People had blond hair and blue eyes before Nazi Germany was a thing, it reminds me of the stupid "anything with a triangle is illuminati" thing.

This a thousand times over. I have blond hair and blue eyes. I should hope that if I were to appear in a piece of art, people wouldn't immediately assume my presence is an ode to Nazism.ringworm128 wrote:People had blond hair and blue eyes before Nazi Germany was a thing, it reminds me of the stupid "anything with a triangle is illuminati" thing.

Re: Super Saiyan... or...Super Aryan?
Tellingly, Adolf Hitler and most of the Nazi upper echelon had none of these Aryan features. He really was quite mad, you know.

Wow, thanks for all the replies guys
The Idealism of blond hair and blue eyes was not actually Adolf Hitler's believe, in fact, he didnt actually care about it. It was Heinrich Himmler, the Commander of the SS who had an obsession with this phenomenon. His fellow peers idolized him and actually made fun of him for his obsession for this topic and nick named him the "golden boy." Hitler had nothing to do with this topic. Its also not just the colour of the hair and eyes that should be focused on, but the idea of Eugenics, that both SSSJ and Aryan's resemble a genetically purity, thus making them supposedly superior to others. Both terms even have a meaning of "super being."

While Saiyans were overall murderous barbarians, it was Vegeta, who keep insulting Goku and Gohan for being low class/filthy blood scum, and how e is better, because he is full blood and Prince, i find him to be more Nazi like than any other Saiyan. But yeah, Hitler really hated Slavic people, but didn`t have obsession with blond haired and blue eyed German people.

Re: Super Saiyan... or...Super Aryan?
Yeah, I agree with you completely. Vegeta is always talking about how he is from the bloodline of a Prince of a great warrior race. There are so many references (if you will) to the theory of Eugenics, implying purity of the higher class, and inferiority of the "lower level" (how Vegeta always refers to Kakarot or Goku). Just because Goku is a "low level, a common soldier" does not mean he is weaker or inferior. Vegeta is not superior to him just because he is from the bloodline of a Prince. Obviously a comparison can be made and arguments can be held. But I think Vegeta has the mindset of a Nazi :3 lolcoola wrote:While Saiyans were overall murderous barbarians, it was Vegeta, who keep insulting Goku and Gohan for being low class/filthy blood scum, and how e is better, because he is full blood and Prince, i find him to be more Nazi like than any other Saiyan. In fact, there is another possibly reference to this topic in the series. There is one episode (I have to check back) where Imperfect Cell states that he has acquired the genes of various races to form a perfect being. Even stating what an "amazing race the Namekians are." This scene can so easily be associated with the Eugenics theory that pure genes come together to form a harmonious entity.
Very interesting comparisons.

Also, they become stronger by their hair becoming blond (Europeanization.)I wrote:The Saiyan race must be based on the Japanese during the Empire era. They're called monkeys, have black hair, rapidly become stronger, invade stars/countries like other villains/great powers, rebel, and get blown away by the strongest.

Re: Super Saiyan... or...Super Aryan?
I used to be Aryan if that makes sense. From ages 3 to 7 I had platinum blonde hair and sky blue eyes. Now I'm 19 with black hair and hazel eyes. Not gonna lie, kinda hoping for stark white hair in the next 10 years, rock the Dante look

Re: Super Saiyan... or...Super Aryan?
Remember, simply having blond hari and blue eyes does not mean your an Aryan, its just a characteristic or trait of what they appear to look like. Actual Aryans derive from Ancient Persia, and was later adopted by the Nazi's.KentalSSJ6 wrote:I used to be Aryan if that makes sense. From ages 3 to 7 I had platinum blonde hair and sky blue eyes. Re: Super Saiyan... or...Super Aryan?
Since saiyan hybrids like Gohan, Goten and Trunks can turn SSJ, the concept of SSJ kicks the idea of pure blood right in the butt. So we could even say that SSJ is against that notion and has nothing to do with it.
In a more serious note, the concept of pure lines and pure blood is nonsense. The "purer" the blood, the weaker the offspring will be since there will be much less genetic variety and richness. Biology and nature itself rejects the concept of pure blood as something purely foolish.

Re: Super Saiyan... or...Super Aryan?
The choice of Saiyans going blond and their eyes going green or blue (depending on the media since the color manga chose it should be blue) is likely just a way to "renew" the character's physical appearance with more luminous traits and opposite ones: Goku's horizontal hair becomes the opposite vertical kind of hair, his black hair become what's perceived as the opposite meaning blond, his eyes become what's perceived as the opposite of black/brown eyes meaning green/blue eyes...
It all gives a whole new feeling to the character, a perceivable change, like a different version of him.
But that thread reminds me of that theory I've heard about many times, hold on tight: Freezer is actually the tyrant (Hitler) judging a black-haired people as the inferior race (Jewish) and ready to exterminate them all cause he just can't stand them, yet it turns out that there were more to them than meet the eyes and were hiding their opposite underneath the surface: an actually superior race with traits much less comparable to monkeys (Aryan) who ironically end up destroying Hitler/Freezer for the way he treated Jewish/Saiyans among other people, since as "the perfect warrior race" or "perfect people", they'd do what's good for everyone, which is probably not what Hitler would have seen coming.
Uh-huh... Really? Messages like that in Toriyama's mind? In Dragon Ball? Really?!
Then how do you explain that Hitler yearned for Aryans while Freezer clearly didn't want Super Saiyans to be a reality?
I do believe that there are messages and lessons in Dragon Ball, but not of that kind, not on serious historical aspects.
More like messages and lessons on self-improvement, on the fact that there is always stronger than you, that big muscles don't have an answer to everything, etc...

I thought the change in color was just because Toriyama didn't want to have to fill in Goku's hair as much anymore.Cold Skin wrote:The choice of Saiyans going blond and their eyes going green or blue (depending on the media since the color manga chose it should be blue) is likely just a way to "renew" the character's physical appearance with more luminous traits and opposite ones

Both really. He wanted a different physical appearance, but it would also lessen the workload for his assistant:Zephyr wrote:I thought the change in color was just because Toriyama didn't want to have to fill in Goku's hair as much anymore.
Super Exciting Guide: Story Volume wrote:Q. Why does Goku get blonde hair when he turns SS?
A. Toriyama says it's really kinda simple. He only uses one assistant (very rare for a mangaka), Mr. Matsuyama. When Goku became stronger Toriyama was looking for a way to express his strength and when they talked it over, they decided that by making his hair blonde, they'd kill two birds with one stone. Matsuyama could save time by not having to fill in Goku's black hair, which took long to dry, and he would look physically very different.
