DBZ English Dub Fans on Kanzenshuu
Re: DBZ English Dub Fans on Kanzenshuu
I started as one when I joined the forum. The only official dub I can watch and actually enjoy as a method of actually enjoying Dragon Ball for Dragon Ball is Kai.
If I want a simultaneous rush of nostalgia with a side of laughs, whilst not actually caring for enjoying it for Dragon Ball, I can still go back to the old Funi dub.

Guess I'll count myself among the Dub fans. except I like multiple versions of the show. The Funimation(Sometimes with the English broadcast score and sometimes with the Japanese) I like the Japanese dub, and The Ocean dub.
I like to think I get the best of both worlds haha
Edit - I forgot Kai haha I like Kai too!

The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

I'm a fan of the english dub simply because I can't stand those stupid ass voices in Japanese. I see absolutely no point in watching something I can't understand, especially when it sounds so terrible.
Now the Spanish Dub, THATS something worth watching. Superb casting, and they really define their character. Just my opinion though, so yall dont get upset now
And also, I prefer the serious tone of the falcouner music in the later part of the series, since the action kicks up a lot more.

What is it you find so terrible and intolerable about it?Bardo117 wrote:I see absolutely no point in watching something I can't understand, especially when it sounds so terrible.

You ever hear of subtitles, bro?Bardo117 wrote:I'm a fan of the english dub simply because I can't stand those stupid ass voices in Japanese. I see absolutely no point in watching something I can't understand, especially when it sounds so terrible.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Of course lmfao, I'm not just gonna sit there and watch something without subtitles. I'm just saying, even with subtitles, it's insanely annoying. I watched all of the Vegeta saga like that, and I couldn't stand it!theoriginalbilis wrote:You ever hear of subtitles, bro?Bardo117 wrote:I'm a fan of the english dub simply because I can't stand those stupid ass voices in Japanese. But yeah, maybe it'll grow on me lol

Definitely have an open mind about the Japanese dub, there's a reason a lot of people like it like that. Maybe I just haven't discovered it yet.

Re: DBZ English Dub Fans on Kanzenshuu
Higher-pitched voices does not necessarily mean "high-pitched". Japanese people in general tend to have higher-pitched voices than many Caucasians, it's true, but the fact that high-pitched voices exist in the Japanese DBZ doesn't mean the whole cast is like that or should be avoided. And the community of voice actors in Japan tend to be highly regarded, even in foreign countries. And it just so happens that many of the most revered ones have voiced characters in DragonBall/Z.
Listen to the Japanese voices for King Kai, Freeza, Cell, Raditz, Nappa, Vegeta, Trunks, Mr. Satan, Tenshinhan, Super Buu, Kami, Recoome, Mr. Popo, Zarbon, Dodoria, Cooler, Lord Slug, Piccolo, Broly, Garlic Jr, etc... And tell me those are "high-pitched."
I don't want the thread to derail so I'll point it back on topic: I'm a fan of the Dragon Ball Z Kai dub and the Ocean dubs of Movies 1-3. They're pretty much the ONLY proper representation the series has gotten in the English-speaking world. I also quite like the AB Groupe/Big Green dub, because it's so bad it's actually funny.

Re: DBZ English Dub Fans on Kanzenshuu
I'm primarily a fan of Funimation's Z dub and absolutely love the Team Faulconer music. I'm also a big fan of the Saban-Ocean dub of episodes 1-53 and the Levy score. Apart from that I also enjoy watching Funi's Kai dub on Kix. I don't quite enjoy it as much as the Z dub because I'm not a huge fan of Kikuchi's music in Z and the limited placement doesn't help although I find it serviceable enough as BGM most of the time.
As far as the Japanese version of Z goes I've watched most of the major battles in Japanese and do appreciate the Japanese cast even though I prefer the Funi cast. I like Nozawa's Goku but prefer Sean Schemmel. And I do like how the Japanese version has less plot-holes and is more consistent with DB (which I thought was better in Japanese than Z was).

I'm a big fan of the English Kai Dub. I usually keep later games to stick with english voices. Though I prefer the Japanese cast. I have some love for the old Funi Dub, but I still think it kinda sucked.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

English Kai dub is great, but the Funi dub I can't stand. I mostly go back to the Funi dub because of nostalgia purposes (and Falconer's score.)
Is it possible to watch DBZ with epilepsy?

My preferred viewing experience is the English dub with the Japanese music. Except for a few select pieces, I've never liked the Faulconer score, but to each their own.JEFFMAN219 wrote:As a Dragon Ball/Z english dub fan I would to know how many people on kanzenshuu who are only English dub fans of the Dragon Ball series?

Re: DBZ English Dub Fans on Kanzenshuu
Though I really only enjoy the FUNimation Kai dub, I do find the English voice track for the more recent video games to be quite listenable.
The fact that they've use more accurate scripts and keep the Japanese-composed music in helps the authenticity a great deal. Though they're not perfect: I remember that certain characters kept switching voices during cutscenes because they reused older recordings...

I still enjoy the old Funi dub in a nostalgic way. I like some of the Falconer music (though the placement is generally abominable).
That said, I generally stick to Japanese names for characters and attacks and defer to that version for the sake of argument and fanfiction (which I haven't actually done in... a long time lol).

Re: DBZ English Dub Fans on Kanzenshuu
Does the Kai dub count? I got into the franchise as a whole by catching some later episodes on Toonami, and always have and still do like the majority of FUNimation's cast. But I simply can't look past the severe flaws of the old Z dub and return to it anymore. A few of the movies and certain chunks of Dragon Ball and the Majin Boo arc are watchable for me, but the rest of it.... nope.
It's why I'm so extremely grateful for Kai (and giddy over its coming-eventually-after-all Boo arc), even though many others view it as a waste of time and effort. Maybe that's true for the original Japanese version, but Kai's biggest positive aspect is that it was the best thing to ever happen to English Dragon Ball, because it gave FUNimation and their cast which I love (and some newcomers which make me love it even more) a rare second chance to tackle "Dragon Ball Z" again and do it right this time. Something which, in my eyes, they succeeded at with flying colors.

Re: DBZ English Dub Fans on Kanzenshuu
I'm not one of them, but I did watch the original US TV run and even with the edits I did enjoy it. The faulconer score is meh, there's some decent themes but not many.
Now do you count the original Z dub or the Kai dub? I prefer the Kai dub over the Japanese as some performances were not that great.. But the original Z dub needs to be burned and redubbed for a 30th anniversary.
