I suggested that but she said she can watch Kai by itself cuz it's presented by itself. If we go back & watch Dragon Ball, she said she'd want to see the original & GT but she doesn't want to do 500+ episodes. Maybe after the Buu Saga comes out I'll be able to change her mind.Fizzer wrote:How about Dragon Ball (not Z)? That has pretty good pacing and a decent dubTravis Touchdown wrote:Speaking for my fiance (since she doesn't have an account), she originally thought of Dragon Ball as kind of a joke and wasn't even the least bit interested in it. But we made a deal; I'd watch one of her shows with her and she'd watch one of mine with me. I can't remember now because this was way back in the first few months of our dating, but I think I agreed to watch Teen Wolf and I decided to get her into Dragon Ball with Dragon Ball Z Kai. I figured the abbreviated nature of it would keep her interest longer than all the filler in the original series.
Long story short (too late, I'm sure), she ended up loving Kai. Unfortunately, she has no interest in the original show because she just doesn't want to sit through over 500 episodes. I guess I don't really blame her because that does sound a little overwhelming. She also refuses to watch it in anything not in English, again something I understand. I'm the same way; I prefer to watch my shows & movies, not read them. And the final nail in the coffin for her is how "censored" and "kiddie" the original dub is, which is the only option with her.
With that being said, I know it sounds like she's not that interested but she is. We have long and in depth conversations about the characters. She loves asking questions about motivations, back-stories, and the like. She's also really excited about the Buu Saga coming to Kai.

So your girlfriend doesn't like DB anymore because she's pretty? How does that work? Because the two are not mutually exclusive.
Anyway I know/knew plenty of girls (online as well) who are into DB and are pretty, you're just looking in the wrong places.

But you can see me discussing seriously sometimes

I've never met a woman who was into Dragonball/DBZ to even remotely the degree that I am, but I'm sure they're out there. Granted, when I get dragged to anime conventions by my friends, I'm not exactly searching very hard.

One thing of advice: don't let anyone get to you. Ignore them and flaunt all you want. You'll be so much happier that way.
My sisters were into it but not like me. One of my sisters prefers DB while my other sister is cool with the whole show (and she got me into DBZ among other things i.e. wrestling)

As a fangirl who is both wierd AND fugly, I feel torn. While I would like to introduce you to some of my gorgeous DBZ loving friends, I fear that I either be giving in to a clever ploy to lure hot fangirls to your base, or that the shock of a broken sterotype may in fact make your head implode. Either way, I don't think I can handle the guilt should either event occur. Instead, I'm going to go work out while listening to Cha La Head Cha La and sobbing, followed by a lovely evening of drawing VegetaXZarbon yaoi.

(I hope you know I'm kidding, but I promise that there are a lot of great gals who love the show)

Female fans? I'm pretty sure we barely have ANY fans of the show here in New Zealand.
The amount I have met who like Dragon Ball and live in NZ I can count on 1 hand. That's also counting people online no less :L

Re: Female Dragon Ball fans
I know of several girls who like Z, but I don't think any of them are really "fans". I also know of many girls who love anime in general, manga, Japan and so on, but have never seen any Dragon Ball or saw five minutes of the Ocean dub of Z on Cartoon Network when they were kids, and are instantly bored and repulsed by any mention of anything to do with Dragon Ball in either case. They like Pokemon, they like InuYasha, they went through a phase of being obsessed with Death Note, they are a fan of one of Naruto, Bleach and One Piece, but they would never entertain the idea of having anything to do with Dragon Ball, which they always call "Dragon Ball Z".
My girlfriend has seen about the first hundred episodes of DB, and she's one of the people who likes it in a casual way. It's probably somewhere un-numbered in her ten favourite shows or something. She probably wouldn't watch it by herself.

Re: Female Dragon Ball fans
There are plenty of female DBZ fans. Typically they don't show their obsession with it the same way as the male ones do (on forums and etc).
Anyways, I got exposed to Dragon Ball when the few episodes of ocean dub were aired on TV here in Canada. I went to an elementary school where a lot of my classmates wore sweatshirts or had backpacks with DBZ on them. I remember I asked who the characters were and was really confused when I got the reply that the blond adult featured in them was supposed to be "Goku". (I had only known Goku to be a child).
A couple years later DBZ started airing and when I watched it I was totally shocked that Goku was an adult and had a wife and child!! I remember being really enthused to see an animated show that had a story where the characters actually grew older and changed.
I watched it everyday with my sister and went on the internet (oh man 90s dial up) to find out more about the show and characters. So I got exposed to the original Japanese. My sister and I were hooked. I had another female friend who was casually into it, but I mostly talked about it with the boys in my classes. I also soundly defeated them whenever we drew the characters XD.
I guess I got so absorbed in the franchise because of the wide range of characters that Toriyama created. DBZ is my favourite installment of the show.
It's my favourite show EVER. I'm still heavily obsessed with it, although the fandom is definitely past it's hey-day now that it's not on the air anymore.
A lot of the female DBZ fans I know still love it just as much, but it's really not easy being a female fan of this series X'D... for the most part people assume you are male, and once they find out you're female suddenly you are some fangirl who only likes the show for yaoi and shipping. I'll say right now that those are only perks to the genuine love of the whole series. (Much like hentai/ecchi is a part of it for the male side).

My problem is that I don't know anybody at all who likes DBZ. Not a soul. My husband will watch TFS with me. It short and frankly hilarious. But that's it. He certainly doesn't want to discuss the show in minute detail. I can't say that I flaunt my interests. I only have two shirts ( one is huge and only for sleeping... Come to think of it: where the hell is it!!) and don't go to cons. Everybody who I know who has watched in the past doesn't now and has 'out grown' the show.
Apparently -according to the sheer number of yaoi fanfictions out there- some girls are still interested in the show (or at least the characters).

Re: Female Dragon Ball fans
Female Dragon Ball fan here, and reporting for duty! A self-admittedly fugly one, but a girl all the same.
My dad got me into DBZ when I was around 8, and I was one of, I believe, 3 people in my class who was a fan at the time, and the only female one. I introduced one of my closest female friends to DBZ when we were about 9 (in other words, I nagged her and nagged her to RP with me, and insisted we 'play DBZ' when I was at her house, and vice versa) - her brother was a big anime fan, and she herself was pretty into InuYasha, so we ended up having a lot in common there. When I got to high school, a mutual friend who'd gone to another school until then also revealed that she liked DBZ - both of them weren't into it the same way I was, but it was pretty cool when she saw me sketching Vegeta she knew exactly what I was doing!
other friends openly voiced their dislike of the series, so I dropped talking to them about it. xD everyone else, however ...
I do remember one of the boys who sat at the same desk as me kind of raised his eyebrows and said 'I've never met a girl who likes Dragon Ball Z before'. Cue the many, many debates we had while we should have been listening in class.
Other than those two, though, I don't know many girls offline. I know plenty of female anime fans, but a lot of them kind of seem to have skipped out on DBZ and gone straight to other shows. For me, though, it's pretty self explanatory: I had a dad who was into Martial Arts films in a big way and two older cousins who wouldn't let me play their games because I was 'too young', but I still watched anyway. My uncle bought me a PSOne age 7. It was only natural that something like DBZ would come to appeal to me. xD
Now, me and my sister watch it, but she's really only interested in the Saiyaman Saga, and any and all relationships. She's pretty into Dragon Ball, though. Which is awesome.

Nothing sissy about it. @ Fizzer: oooh, absolutely! And I have to admit, I'm a sucker for the relationships at times, too. =) the everyday stuff is an interesting change of pace, definitely, and was pretty much the motivation for the first ever DBZ fanfic I wrote! xD nah, I don't think so - I get why it's appealing. =)Gyt Kaliba wrote:Nothing sissy about it. Re: Female Dragon Ball fans
Me and my younger sister got into the fandom back in 1995 with Dragon Ball. She was 6, I was 10.
I simply loved the jokes and the tournaments... and then the sht hit the fan when King Piccolo made his appearance and the rest is history.
Btw, I already liked Goku, but once he grew up... Oh my. So, by DBZ, I called dibs on Goku and my sister called dibs on Trunks.
Sure, I loved the story, but I had my eye candy too.
