I love the Westwood dub from start to finish on nothing but pure nostalgia. They suck beyond a shadow of a doubt and are about as cheap and underproduced as they come but you know what, I have no issue with sitting and watching it.

I would never recommend it to a single person nor ever consider it truly 'good' and I think that's the difference between a nostalgic fan and the Z dub defenders that live on YouTube.

I do think it's voice actors actual voices are better than anything Funimation churned out despite the acting though.
I actually really wanted to like Westwood Z back in the day. Despite being more of a Funi fan I did still hold a great deal of love for the Saban dub and wanted the Westwood dub to be as good as that. But I just couldn't like it. It felt completely different to the Saban dub despite using mostly the same voice cast and was just too bad for me to enjoy. The main killer for me was the music. If they'd only used good music I might be able to look past the acting. For what it's worth I feel like the music improved dramatically during the Fusion and Kid Buu sagas. I'd be lying if I said the music placement in Goku vs Kid Buu wasn't great.

The Albanian dub wins this category hands down.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the Serbian dub yet.

After watching the FUNi dub more times than I can count, I can completely say in good conscience that after season 3, their dub never got even near that bad.

Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!

Well I can't speak for others but I actually love the Funi dub simply because I think it's great. Most of what I grew up with was the Westwood dub so in theory I should prefer that and yet I hate it and find the Funi dub to be 100x better.

If you think the Funi dub is "great", you're not really in any kind of position to make fun of people who like this or that other shitty dub, or to find it crazy. They're both products of immensely low quality.

I can hold any opinion I want and my opinion is that even at its worst Funi's dub was never even close to being as atrocious as the Westwood dub. People are free to disagree but can't deny the fact that the Westwood dub was low budget and rushed as hell while Funi's wasn't.

Well, most dubs outside of US and bigger countries sounded like this in the early 90's, but what puzzles me more is lack of music and SFX!

It's still there, however It's so low you almost can't hear it, reminds me of that dub that narrated over the French one, you could still hear the french dub.

That's the Polish one. I watched that dub as a kid for some times simultaneously with the German one. It's normal voiceover, that was practicised in countries in Eastern Europe, from Poland to Russia.
You take movie and one guy dubs all the lines over it. Interestingly enough, dubs like this were in Czech republic, but not officially. People were distributing foreign films, that were forbidden or not officially released here during communism era
and translated them and dubbed themselves (usually in real time with headphone set or microphone) as they were recording it on tape. I saw the first Batman with this voiceover as a kid, it was horrible, but in Poland, Russia and other eastern countries, it is done professionally, so the guy or lady isn't sounding as much as horrible :D The reason for it is obvious, it is damn cheap in comparison to normal proffesional dubbing.

Here in Poland people usually think, that dubbing is for children only, no wonder through, when in plenty movies they use same dubbing actors from animation, with is funny, because in communism era, lots of movies were dubbed very professionally, unfortunately, 90% of them is lost :(

There were clips of the Filipino dub of movies 5 and 6. Coola had an incredibly deep voice (modulated, of course), which made that dub amazing for me. I used to have it over ten years ago, and I remember how his screams and yells sounded like he was saying "HOOOO---AAAAHHH!" constantly...if I only I can buy those movies somewhere.

Well, to tell you a truth, I'm against dubbing as well. I really liked in Greece, how the movies are in original language with subtitles. Also, lot of dubs have different meaning than it is in original, because people don't know the facts or it doesn't make a sense in that language. Subtitles tend to be more accurate (Well, it half/half usually) and in case of English spoken movies, I'm watching them naturally without subs.

Question regarding the foreign dubs. Do folks compare them to their native cartoons like here? (You don't really hear US cartoons blasted for bad acting like you do anime dubs in the States. Why that is, I don't know.) So was wondering if in Portugal, are Portuguese cartoons' acting mentioned or not thought of.

@PrinceVegetto It's not that bad, Albanian Piccolo & Vegeta sound awesome to me. The only problem is their music (Albanian music or Alternative Kikuchi tracks).
