Well, this game is very, very, very cool. I liked the battle system and the whole sidescroll idea, it's great!!

I hope one day a Dragon Ball Z : Advance Adventure is released

If you really think about it, it already has been. The Legend of Goku games pretty much summed up DragonBall Z, even though I think it took them three games to go through all of Z. Those being Legend of Goku I, Legend of Goku II, and Buu's Fury which, I believe, was going to be Legend of Goku III.

Only it's a totally different genre and the LoG series isn't even remotely close to the quality of DBAA.

I don't think a DBAA style DBZ game would work though, they never had such platforming fights with countless of enemies in the series.

Wow, the cover art is really good. It's better than the original Japanese artwork! Although, in the background, it looks like 23rd Tenka'ichi Budokai-era Goku, which is kinda out of place, since the game ionly goes up to the Piccolo-Daimao arc.

Also, those of you who are debating whether to buy it or not; buy it. It is the best GameBoy Dragon ball game I have played, and I have played most of them. 8)

Well, there haven't been any useful replies to this thread in helping me decide whether to buy it or not, so I said "fuck it" and bought it anyways.

Basically this is the European version (complete with the same horrible replacement for Makafushigi Adventure) but with the Japanese voiceovers removed. It really pisses me off that they did this. Oh well. But don't let that discourage you... This is by far the best Dragonball game. Ever.

One interesting thing is the back of the box features a picture of, surprise, adult Goku with the headline "In the beginning..." bolded at the top in huge font, as if to say the original DB is some little sidestory that takes place before the REAL story happens.

The main menu of the game has changed to reflect the new logo that is seen on the front of the box.

All in all, this is a terrific game. I just can't stand the English voiceovers, even though they only are grunts and HA's and so forth. If only Atari had been just a little bit lazier...

Fuck it, I'll import the JP version too.

EDIT:

Pictures for those who are curious. (Clicking the thumbnails doesn't load the images for me.... So I've included direct links as well.)

BEFORE THE AWESOMENESS OF DBZ!!!... here's this shitty sidestory. Note the picture of Adult Goku, who isn't in the game at all but still rocks ass nonetheless. PS go buy the Budokai games! - Atari

This is what you see on every page of the manual. Sorry for the blurryness, but you get the idea. I hate Atari.

Atari hasn't released .hack//OUTBREAK (3) in the Netherlands, while they did release 1, 2 and 4. I hate them, can't find the &(#*)* game anywhere >.<

You think so? I actually like the Japanese artwork a lot more. Gokuu with his Nyoibou just looks a lot more... Dragon Ball-ish, as it's based on the second opening animation. The US cover is just.. meh. It doesn't has the DB feeling to me, especially not when adult Gokuu is on the cover :P

I am somewhat glad I have the European release now. English text, Japanese voices, and better cover artwork that matches the Japanese cover art and DB not DBZ "feel" of the game.

Iam not as a rabid video game player that I once was. I beat the game and I had the option to play as Krillin I was like eh, no biggie. So I selected him just to see what it was like and now Iam playing through the game again. Its just so freakin awsome.

I played throught the entire game, got all of the extra charecters, and all the items! The best part of this game is that you get to play as literally anything you see in the single player game. In extra mode, you can play as Goku, Krillin, Yamcha, a bat, a floating camera, an animal bandit, tao, and tons of other charecters.(ex: Tien and his little buddy!)

It is a great game, and I encourage all who dont own it already to buy it.

I just went on a spending spree and bought a DS Lite, New Super Mario Bros., Tetris DS, and Advanced Adventure. Can't wait to fire it up tonight!

I've checked my local Target and ShopKo, but to no avail. Guess I'll have to wait until I drive out to Wal*Mart which is kind of out of my daily route, unless I go there for groceries.

You're mad that you can't hear grunting in Japanese.

Grunting.

The Japanese game linked up to the European, so I wondered if perhaps someone knew if the US release linked up to the European as well?

Picked up a copy. It would appear the translators goofed and gave Shenlong THREE names in the script. First he goes by "Eternal Dragon" at the very begining of the game. Then when Pilaf summons him, he's Shenron. When Goku summons him to revive Bora, he's known as "Shen Long."

It's also interesting to note how during the training with Goku and Kuririn, they used the term "Kamesen" in regards to Roshi's martial arts style.

I also like how nice and smooth the box is, compared to the dull cardboard feel some of GBA game boxes have. Also prefer this cover art over the Japanese one, which looks like it was made for a Famicom case. o_o;

I find it funny how Atari used nothing but Japanese screens for the box and instructions. You'd figure with how long they delayed the game, they'd have had English shots prepared. XD So now they're covered with "Juckie Chun," "Klilyn," and "Gokou" all over the place.

The only real disappointments are the removal of the original Japanese music points in the game, such as the original opening and Mezase Tenkaichi during the Jackie Chun fight.

Edit: What the..? King Piccolo even calls Goku an "ant turd." o_O And here this is rated E 10+. This game doesn't cease to suprise me.

That's right. O_o
And certain musical themes.

To you it's nothing, but to me they're minor annoyances that detract from the overall enjoyment of the game.

I've never understood why the American DBZ games have had to remove the Japanese themes, even when they're just instrumental. Is it because of royalty fees...? Is it because they think American audiences won't like it...? I just don't understand. It annoys the shit out of me when I pop in a game like SuperSonic Warriors and instead of being treated to ChaLa I hear some shit theme that sounds like it was slapped together in two minutes.

If they're dead set on changing the music... Fine. But at least put some damn effort into it. I'll bet on Super DBZ having all of the themes replaced with recycled Budokai tunes yet again. It's just getting old. Atari can suck it.
