Is Kai on Nicktoons becoming what DBZ was on Toonami?

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

Shocked to see no one mentioned my comment on the promos. IMO by far Nicktoons Kai promos are much better than Toomani Dragonball-DBZ-DBZ the movies promo.

Toonami did some of the best promos I've ever seen...I can still rewatch them and get chills. That says something about staying power.

No disrespect to your opinion but none of those promos in my opinion were even all that. DECENT at best. It was very simple editing. Never saw what was so great about them.

Just as I've yet to see a Nicktoons promo that even comes close to a tenth as amazing to me as the Toonami promos.

Toonami wasn't just awesome because of the programming, but they put a lot of time into the story of the block, and getting some amazing voice talent and well written material to work with said voice talent. Steve Blum? Peter Cullen? Amazing. When a cartoon block mascot's final sign off actually gets you teary-eyed, you know they were doing something right.

Wasn't debating if Toonami was good or not. Just saying that Nicktoons IMO have better DBZ KAi promos than Toonami had DbZ promos.

I wonder if those people who are watching the show are kids or just the older fans? It seems like Kai is not as popular with kids compare to Yu-Gi-Oh! or Power Rangers.

Oh a LOT of those ARE kids. That's why they make much noise online. The only adults who watch are parents. Other adults just watch DBZ Uncut.

Kids? Watching DB shows?

Well, gee, I guess... if their parents allow!

That post was really cute. It made me chuckle. No, really, no sarcasm.

It makes me wonder what parents feel about DBZ! I wonder if they hate it or if they even like it!

I have neighbors that let their ten year old watch South Park and play GTA5. Your sarcasm is the sad, sad truth.

I watched dragon ball uncut as a kid :D Also most cable companies at the time had the "international channel" yea... can't believe it was called that, played db, z, gt all the time and all uncut raw Japanese the way it's meant to be. No subtitles, before anything would air it would say something in the lines of "please be advised this has not been altered and is aired unchanged from it's original airing" of course original airing is very subjective.

The international channel wasn't well known and you don't hear about it and cable companies don't offer such anymore which sucks..

South Park really isn't that bad... if you think killing kenny every episode and swearing all the time is bad than who knows... GTAV on the other hand shouldn't be played by little kids, honestly the ESRB is a joke.

When was the last time you watched South Park? There's a lot more than just that past season 3.

Also I was like 7 or 8 when I started watching South Park and playing GTA, so it's not totally bad, but GTA looks more realistic and isn't a pixelated 2.5D game any more, and they show worse stuff on South Park than they did back in the day...

Agreed. South Park kinda transitioned from bland toilet humor featuring kids (which is satirical in itself, but you get point) to a richer satire, and pretty adult content. Let's just say I wouldn't let my kids watch it until they at least hit the double-digits and then some. A crap-ton of kids have played GTA games like III, Vice City etc. which aren't categorically different from GTA V, today, and it never was a big deal outside of media controversy. Though, I doubt kids would grasp the humor, which is half the reason I even enjoy the series.

I know kids watch the show, but I don't think the show is as popular with kids compare to other shows like TMNT, Power Rangers, Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, Ben 10 and Adventure Time. FUNI and Bandai America really miss the chance to make a big wave of merchandise. Merchandise helps people know that the show exist and makes it more popular.

I just watched the Minecraft episode the other day where the kids tried to stop their parents from watching murder porn. I haven't heard "OMG they killed Kenny, you b******" in along time.

Um. DBZKai only has the disadvantage of being in a weak network. Lots of kids love DBZ! That's why its a profitable franchise to this very day!

...Okay that's more because of the adult fans who purchase DBZ DVD's and so on, but do you think Toei/Funimation doesnt think of the Future? Its an evergreen franchise, it will never ran out of kid fans!

BTW DBZKai did out perform Ben 10 on CN SO THERE!

Please lets leave the "Its DB Kid Appropiate?" for the other thread you guys took over with that drivel.

Also, while there's no toys like in the Golden Days. I'd say DB is still a hit with kids. The only reason there's no toys here is because they (the new toys) flopped in Japan. Ratings dont always translate to sales, but that doesnt mean kids dont love DB! And with 10 million views in Japan and 1.4 million in the USA lots of kids loved Kai as well.

Also I think it trended in the USA when Nicktoons aired the DBZ movies. I know we'll get the Buu Saga and that will be a hit as well!

I thought it had around 3 million views on its premiere.

You make it sound like every 18+ year old DBZ fan only watch DBZ uncut  ? You have older casual fans who watch Kai on TV because it's DBZ. They are like "Oh DBZ is back. This should be fun!".
