That scene made me really hate Goku
That scene made me really hate Goku
Goten and Trunks just found out their family is dead, and what Goku do? Yell at them, and expect to train immediately, what a jerk! I know that Piccolo had same attidute for Gohan at the beginning, but, he was still a Demon King at that time.

Re: That scene made me really hate Goku
So, he should just cry with them and let them rest, so that Boo can peacefully destroy the whole universe? Especially when death isn't something permanent thanks to the Dragon Balls? Yeah, what an asshole.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Re: That scene made me really hate Goku
As far as scenes to hate, I'm more partial to the final sequence. Never forgiving Goku for that.
But yeah, it was time for Goten and Trunks to train and get revenge, the grieving (although as said, who the hell would grieve seriously in the DB universe?) could come after they stopped the world from being destroyed...

Can't blame Goku there. I'd do the same if I were in his boots plus I like this rare serious side of Goku, like when he punched Gohan back to Heavenly Realms.
Besides, there are other cases of OOCness from Goku in the Boo Saga (like the ending of the series).

I think him giving Cell the senzu bean was worse. It just bothers me more. There was no reason to play fair when the world was at stake (only thing I can think is they don't want to have kids think playing dirty is ok.)
On hiatus.

As above said Son giving Cell the senzu is worse or Goku watching his friends get beaten by Birsu. The universe is at sake. Ain't no need for crying.

Well it's not like he could have done much to help at that time. Although he might have been able to tell that Beerus wasn't really a bad guy and wouldn't kill them, just like he could tell that Trunks wouldn't really cut him with his sword.TheGmGoken wrote:As above said Son giving Cell the senzu is worse or Goku watching his friends get beaten by Birsu. Honestly, I can sort of justify the Senzu giving as either...
1) Goku showing his son just how much confidence he has in him, or...
2) Him knowing that eventually, Gohan would have to get horribly beaten up or psychological tormented to go SSJ2, so he didn't want it to be dragged out.

Goku is like a puppy. Sure it'll pee on your rug or chew your shoes to bits but in the end you can't stay mad at it.

Re: That scene made me really hate Goku
There's moments in life where you have to put your personal feelings aside to attend to your current matters. In the end, this was a moment where Gokuu's behavior was totally justified and practical.
As for me, there are many other moments, especially in this arc, where Gokuu irks me the wrong way. Where I can't help but scrutinize his dubious choices unlike here. How about when he chose not to kill Boo just so the "next generation" (I.E seven & eight year old Goten and Trunks) can earn a victory. You can argue his intentions all you want but at the end of the day his decision was reckless, absurd and extremely impractical.

Re: That scene made me really hate Goku
So you got offended when Goku is trying to be a father for once? Sometimes a people do need tough love. People are THIS oversensitive...? I wouldn't be surprised if some people hated Vegeta's "Drill sergeant " attitude during the Buu saga.
All the above. I also am shocked that people actually had a problem with that. IMO, that's one of the things that made the saga have a dark feel instead of a happy-adventure feel.Fionordequester wrote:Honestly, I can sort of justify the Senzu giving as either...

Along with the Android fiasco, Trunks background, Cell beating Gohan up along with him birthing out Cell Jrs to cause havoc that made Gohan go SSJ2, yes.TheGmGoken wrote:Goku giving Cell a senzu made the story dark

Re: That scene made me really hate Goku
Agree with all the Goku senzu talk. It's like Goku is waiting for an RPG level up for his main character, in this case Gohan, and waiting for conditions to be met before the level up happens, giving no fucks about what Gohan may be feeling. Damn Goku.
But him trying to toughen up Goten and Trunks, doesn't measure up to Piccolo toughening up 4 YEAR OLD Gohan about his father's death. Both scenarios seem cruel, but the Piccolo situation I find worse.

Maybe at first but Cell Games wasn't really all that dark. Everything before CG maybe. But CG itself was quite a neutral setting. What people meant by Goku giving Cell the bean was that it made them mad and dislike Goku.EXBadguy wrote:Along with the Android fiasco, Trunks background, Cell beating Gohan up along with him birthing out Cell Jrs to cause havoc that made Gohan go SSJ2, yes.TheGmGoken wrote:Goku giving Cell a senzu made the story dark

Re: That scene made me really hate Goku
I... don't see how that makes the story dark. It's not that I disagree. I just literally don't get it.
But I still think it was stupid. After all, the whole format of the tournament was for as many fighters as possible to come against Cell and possibly wear him down by attrition. Even Cell said that! Obviously from the story perspective, Goku's action is supposed to show he just has THAT much confidence in Gohan, but it's still pretty stupid. Still don't get how it's dark. In fact, that's presented as a very upbeat moment.

Re: That scene made me really hate Goku
Hell, Goku and Cell fought with each other with all their might, so Goku gave Cell that just to face Gohan. IMHO, if the saga ended by Goku destroying Cell instead of giving "new blood" a chance, that would give Goku the "main hero syndrome" meaning he has to win every damn fight in the series. Gohan never really had that and that one of the reasons why the saga's different.
I can go on about why I justify with Goku giving Cell the bean along with the Cell saga being the best, but I don't feel like it.

Goku does so many unbelievably nice, and heart warming things across the span of the entire series. I don't know how, but it's really a shame to let one little thing like that tear it all down for you. Sorry to hear.
