Yeah, I know what you mean and I agree with you but being a Saiyan-jin is a determining factor in fighting situations. Vegeta did something similar letting Cell attain the perfect form and maybe that is even worse!

If they didn't do it, then their families, their friends, their planet, the whole universe would be erased from existence, even the AfterLife would be destroyed. And it's not like he didn't know if they liked fighting. The only scene I ever had made me dislike Goku was he gave a bit of his energy to Freeza. This guy nearly wiped out the Saiyan/Namekican race, killed countless lives including his best friend Krillin. Why after everything he has done would you show mercy on someone like that and give them a bit of your energy? Doesn't make sense.

Anyway he was saying how Krillin is hesitant to use the controller on 18, and then said "he's an old softy - like me!". At the time, I remember thinking "Yeah right, Goku, you've killed people!".
