Yamcha: Saved everyone from Boss Rabbit, and stopped Oozaru Goku.
Tenshinhan: Stalled Cell so #18 can escape but she got absorbed anyway, saved Dende's life in the Buu arc.

So kinda even? I mean Tien was a dry character after his arc. Didn't do much and Yamcha was a supportKid Buu wrote:Hmm:TheGmGoken wrote:Yamcha was more useful than Tenshinhan

Yamcha forgot to tell Goku that the Androids could absorb energy. I'd say that gives him negative points.TheGmGoken wrote:So kinda even? I mean Tenshinhan was a dry character after his arc. He did. He just doesn't explain it right. Then later on he explains it correctly. Not his fault.Kid Buu wrote:Huh? I thought Yamcha did tell them straight away they could absorb energy, TeamFourStar doesn't count.

Yamcha and Krillin stayed usedful. Kinda. Yamcha was far more speard apart. Krillin however was always useful after not being a jackassKid Buu wrote:Most of the characters here just seem useful in their debut arcs and then fodder for the rest of the series. He tells Gohan and Bulma, and later on Gohan tells Piccolo. Yamcha never says a word about it to Goku while he's fighting 19.Kid Buu wrote:Huh? I thought Yamcha did tell them straight away they could absorb energy, TeamFourStar doesn't count.

At least he told someone, Kaioshin forgot to mention to anyone that Buu could absorb people. That's gotta be even futhur in the negatives.Kamiccolo9 wrote:He tells Gohan and Bulma, and later on Gohan tells Piccolo. True enough. I made a long post once rationalizing Kaioshin's behavior in the Buu Arc that, IIRC, was pretty well received, but, in the end, Toriyama just made him a lot less than he was initially made out to be. I'm not a big fan of that, mainly since I like the Kaioshin's character designsKid Buu wrote:At least he told someone, Kaioshin forgot to mention to anyone that Buu could absorb people. I only saw the movie for the first time (all the way through, I had seen very brief clips of it on TV years and years ago) this summer, and I loved it. Its moody atmosphere and long fight scenes without music really give it a tone that separates it from the other DBZ movies, and Tullece is an extremely entertaining villain. It also has one of my favorite climaxes in all of Dragon Ball-dom, with Goku's initial Genki Dama failing, only for him to realize he can use the tree to supply power, and meets Tullece in a gunslinger showdown straight out of a western. True, the non-Goku guys get shoved aside, but they're still better off than in most of the movies.DragonBoxZTheMovies wrote:I think DBZ Movie 3 is a little overrated and I think many people only rate it highly because of nostalgia. Think about; a lot of its footage is used in Rock the Dragon, it was the first 'Z' movie to be dubbed and released in the US, it uses the whole Saiyan arc cast, etc.- it almost sort of embodies those early years of DBZ in the US. Sure, it has some great music (Dun-dun-dun) and some neat fight scenes, but this is all in between long panning shots of wastelands and wrecked cities. Some of them are very artsy and nice, but it gets very tiresome after a while. And those fights scenes involving Yamcha, Tenshinhan, etc. last only a few minutes at most.
I hate to say it, since it does have a lot of sentimental value, but sitting through this movie is extremely boring and it even becomes a bite of a chore at some points (Oozaru scene anyone?).
Must admit, I forgot about the climax. I have to agree with you there and I also agree that the film does have quite an atmosphere, but I just feel like the frequent usage of those scenic shots often crossed the line between building atmosphere and unnecessary padding.Storm wrote:I only saw the movie for the first time (all the way through, I had seen very brief clips of it on TV years and years ago) this summer, and I loved it. It's definitely my favorite of the original 13. The only thing that comes close is Dead Zone.

Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

I kinda agree. Even though it ranks very low on my list of "best-to-worst" DBZ movies for being like... the most unoriginal P.O.S (Piece. of. Shit) ever I honesty thought it was an overall better movie than Movie 7 or 11. It had more of a story going for it plus it does the characters more justice.Kid Buu wrote:I've never understood the Lord Slug or Movie 4 hate at all.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.
