Re: Is the Kenji Yamamoto score worth it?
I'd say. As soon as I heard Yamamoto's score was plagiarized. I knew what was going to go down. So I bought all the kai sets that were out at the time. It's a super shame part 5 didn't make that cut.
Re: Is the Kenji Yamamoto score worth it?
Same...it just feels so weird...I hope the new score is good though.AjayLikesGaming wrote:I'm lucky enough to have all the episodes broadcast with Yamamoto's score and I have to say, it's absolutely worth it.
I find it very hard to watch Kai with the Kikuchi replacement now.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

Re: Is the Kenji Yamamoto score worth it?
As Kei said, they are the remastered versions. Remastering isn't about replacing, it's the process of refining and restoring. More or less all of Kikuchi's score for Dragonball was digitally remastered in the early 2000's ahead of its release on CD (which I have to say, as someone involved in Music Production professionally, are very good), and as such the Kikuchi score used in Kai is sourced from these remasters.dbboxkaifan wrote:The Kikuchi tracks in Kai sounded better than from Dragon Box's audio quality but that's due to the muffled noise it has otherwise it wouldn't really be any different, and it's not remastered they just specifically picked the ones that were in stereo.
They exist in a muffled quality in mono on the Dragonboxes due to the fact that the master tapes for the audio were not retained by Toei, and what currently exists is a digital copy of a copy that was stored in a lossy optical format.

Re: Is the Kenji Yamamoto score worth it?
I know that they were from the DBZ Compilation, and I forgot that the synthesised ones were a remake not a remaster but still, Dragon Ball Kai with Kikuchi's music is absolutely terrible.
I'll at least give props to the last two episodes with the Kikuchi music though it's no surprise because they were most likely the first eps to be replaced with it.

Re: Is the Kenji Yamamoto score worth it?
To me it was definitely worth it. I own Parts 1 & 2 on Blu-ray and parts 3 & 4 on DVD with Yamamoto. and somewhere in my brain I couldn't stand the thought of not having the rest with that score. Luckily I found a place to download the remaining episodes with English and Yamamoto.
I'm hoping one day they'll re-release Kai with the original soundtrack but until then I'm hanging on to this. But yeah I really like the score a-lot.
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

Yamamoto score is overrated in my opinion. I watch dbz kai for the story and action so I could care less about the music playing in the background.

I think Yamamoto's score is definitely worth it. It's part of what makes Kai, Kai for me. Without it, it feels a lot less fresh and a lot more like Dragon Ball Z (if that makes any sense).

I loved Yamamoto's score. Very modern sounding and it reminded me of the Budokai games.

Well Kai English dub still feels fresh to me with Kikuchi since the original had Faulconer.samuraix123 wrote:No, That makes perfect sense and I agree!Eight-Star Dragon wrote:I think Yamamoto's score is definitely worth it. Re: Is the Kenji Yamamoto score worth it?
I've never heard the Yamamoto score but after reading this I really want too. I currently only own S2 and it's my belief that all the season sets contains this Kukuchi (sp) fellows score. Correct?
Is there any way to legitimately own the Yamamoto score for S3 &4?

Season 3 and Season 4 are Cyborg arc correct? If that's the case then you can't unless you use Amazon or Ebay that has the JPN audio only...Baggie_Saiyan wrote:I've never heard the Yamamoto score but after reading this I really want too. Oh well since I haven't heard it, I don't know what I'm missing so I'll keep that way.
Thanks for the response!

You should not call the original Japanese version a dub. It's not really a dub. Also, as a Japanese, I'm quite uncomfortable with the word Jap.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Aww man not a Jap Dub fan myself.

But it is a dub really, technically. Just looking at the time where the dialogue is totally out of sync with the mouth flaps is proof enough of that.kei17 wrote:You should not call the original Japanese version a dub. Re: Is the Kenji Yamamoto score worth it?
Most people prefer to it being called original audio. That's what I say on here. But normally I say Original Dub. Make sense IMO.Fionordequester wrote:But it is a dub really, technically. So in a way technically both me and you wrong and Kei is right....In anime/animation dubbing, it is basically new voice-overs by a cast that are not the original voice actors in different languages than the source language.

Fair enough.

Re: Is the Kenji Yamamoto score worth it?
I understand it's a dub per say but I just prefer calling the Japanese track dub. I apologize if any offence was inferred from me using Jap instead of Japanese.kei17 wrote:You should not call the original Japanese version a dub. It's not really a dub. Re: Is the Kenji Yamamoto score worth it?
The only problem with calling the original Japanese a "dub" is that it's usually not called that because of how it was made. It's usually called a "dub" because people want to put it on the same level as any other dub.

I understand. But even though I'm a dub fan even of DBZ, that's not where I'm coming from, don't worry about it.AgitoZ wrote:The only problem with calling the original Japanese a "dub" is that it's usually not called that because of how it was made.
