In our world, sensing someone's being without actually seeing them might be considered divine. In the Dragon Ball universe, it's just another day at the Budokai ring, nothing special.

Mr. Announcer wrote:Well as far as we know, Dragonball still has magic right? And godly magic at that. Kami has the ability to create the Dragonballs, Piccolo can produce clothing out of thin air, and Karin and Kami can see everything that happens on earth (it's not just good eyesight, right?). That's not quite as physical as sensing ki so I guess one could call that divine, even if god is just a wrinkly old alien.
My sentiments exactly!

It is important to remember that the so called divine characters in DB are special cases and are not represenative of all. The powers of ki are all powers that even the human characters can use. The idea is that it is a means of expressing a very real energy in fighting. One notable exeption is the Tenshinhan power to split and Piccolo's power to extend his arms. One being a magical attack and the other a demon power.

Uh, yeah but we are talking about senses, not powers in general.

But we are talking about 'powers'. What we are shown in DragonBall is that there isn't really anything that's 'divine', anything that anyone is able to do is just some technique that they have accomplished through training. No 'power' is ever 'bestowed upon' a character by a god. Anything the gods themselves do are simply the same feats the other characters can perform, albeit at a higher level of proficiency. We are shown nothing that would indicate that this one specific 'sensing' technique is different from any other technique.

Yes but compared to other anime/manga DBZ's sensing abilities is kind of godly because no one else can do it. Every DBZ character can see everything in the universe even lightyears away. Come on that is not just good eye sight it is kind of a heavenly power.

Uh...have you even read the other posts?

1) WHY ON EARTH DO YOU FRICKEN CARE?!?!?!?!

2) Just because it's divine in our universe doesn't mean a thing in the Dragon Universe. If everyone can learn it, no matter who they are, then what's "divine" about it? Nothing. Absolutely Nothing.

3) Do you even know the definition of "divine"?

Firstly, Duo, you're being a dick again. He's asking a question, we try to answer it. If you don't care, you don't have to post in the thread.

Secondly, Superstar, none of the powers we see in DragonBall are 'divine'. For a power to be 'divine' it would have to be something given by, or restricted to, a 'divine' being. And, as we see in DragonBall, none of these powers are restricted to any 'gods' and all powers are brought forth through one's own force of will. DragonBall powers are not divine.

Furthermore, you seem to be only arguing your point (in this thread and the one about 'light speed') instead of discussing it with others. We have proven that there's nothing 'divine' about DragonBall powers, if you have more information to put forth into the discussion, post them - don't just say 'but that's kind of godly, lol' - it makes you look foolish.

Perhaps, in the Dragon World at least, it's just an under used ability. Plenty of other characters and races can use both of those abilities (at least in the laster seasons...) so maybe it's just something people forgot how to do (Like Satan's theory on flying :D )
Just remember, everytime something bad is happening to you. Something even worse is happening to someone else.

You're right. I only posted (I've been following the thread since it started) because it seemed superstar was kind've not hearing what you and others were saying, so I thought taking a "harsher tone" would get through to him a bit better. After all, half of your post was trying to do the same thing.

Oh wait, it worked. For both of us. Guess I'm not such a dick after all.

I would like to add that Kaio-sama has a "divine ability" that no one else, even Kaioshin, has. He can mass communicate or allow others to mass communicate with up to the entire universe if necessary.

So yes, there are some, super limited, very few "divine abilities". Just not stuff like sensing and seeing things move fast.

Babidi can communicate with the entire planet by talking into their minds.

First thing is, you need to expand your responses. It's in the rules that one line posts are a no no here. Secondly, Babidi is a majin or a magic user (which is called a warlock in the manga) which isn't remotely comparable to the ki used by the Z fighters. Ki has to be trained with a severe training of the mind. Remember the episodes of Dragonball where Goku is just meditating? The whole point is to be able to tap into one's own ki concienciously, which takes training. Magical power needs no training to do. One can do it without as much work.

The closest thing I can think of to being a 'divine' ability in Dragonball is the abilty to create something out of thin air. Only those with some connection to Otherworld have ever done such a thing.

Babidi can also mass communicate with an entire planet, although he does it through the use of magic. He may be a weak fighter but he still has the ability to enter into one's mind and communicate with them.

Bardock the Mexican, training is essential for magic. Card magicians need to train their hands and speed to be able to pull of the trick. Those who have magical powers in fantasy stories need to train to use magic. They don't just wake up and start using magic. They need to read the spell books, have a mentor teach them the skills, and practice all the techniques.

And finally Bardock the Mexican, if there is a problem with my posts, the moderators will bring it to my attention and discuss it with me. Please re-read Rule #10.

The Z-senshi are martial artists which are similar to wrestlers (amatuer), boxers, ultimate fighters, etc. If you participate in any of the aforementioned activities then you would understand how they can sense the power of other martial artists. I wrestle so I know when I have tough competitior before me, rather than a fish, just because of his fierce aura. In other words, it has almost nothing to do with being "devine", it is only a matter of feeling the martial artist aura/skill of another. The stronger/greater the person, the greater the aura release will be. Like if you were about to be in a fight, you can feel the tension in the air because people are releasing their strongest ki because they are ready to rock.

That shit is real man, trust me.

Ki is not fictional, it's only a matter of manipulating it. How else do you explain people breaking stacks of cinderblock? This is similar to the tactics in DragonBall but, as we know, DB is way different from real life. Akira Toriyama took manipulating ki to a whole new level. I mean, people fly because they know how to float ontop of their ki. As for sensing energy, Goku and co. could sense the energy of others once they began to train their ki manipulation. They mastered the ability to release their energy as solid projectiles, so why can't they use their energy to enhance their ability to sense power?

The Saiyan race was not full of great martial artists; they were just warriors and physical brutes, as was Freeza and his henchmen. This is why they cannot sense ki, fighting was just a natural thing to them (the Saiyans).

So why don't they learn martial arts like humans, you may ask. Well...they're aliens. We all know that aliens have all types of special powers and shit. :D Unlike the Humans, Yadrat-jin, Tsufuru-jin, etc., they don't need martial arts or special technology to defend themselves from other races.

So, without that training, they won't have the ability to sense the presence of others.

In conclusion, sensing ki is merely a martial art. Then again, these are my inferences/theories based off of facts.
