Chozenshuu #4 - Column 3?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Chozenshuu #4 - Column 3?

Code: Select all

Column 3: Investigate! Another Chronology
This one-page section discusses the placement of recent works whose timeframe is unclear, such as Episode of Bardock, Dr. Mashirito — Abale-chan, and the various Neko Majin Z chapters. This becomes especially confusing when attempting to place Neko Majin Z, as each chapter has its own peculiarities, including an out-of-universe reference to the “Dragon Box” DVD sets.
So, in what conclusion do they reach? Do they place EoB, Dr. Mashirito — Abale-chan, and Neko Majin in different timelines from the main one (manga)? And what problems do EoB & Dr. Mashirito — Abale-chan cause that make them not fit, according to the guidebook?
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Neko Majin they refer to as a "parallel world", due to it having references to the real word Dragon Boxes, GT era Pan and co., and Vegeta coming to Earth to pick up Freeza's kid. Dr. Mashirito they just wonder about when it's supposed to be set; they note that unlike in DB, they use the Gregorian calendar, and a lot of time has passed since Dr. Slump. With regards to Episode of Bardock, they just say vague stuff about "could this be the origin of the Super Saiyan legend?"

Could Neko Majin Z be one of the other universes mentioned in BoG?
Cool stuff that I upload here because Youtube will copyright claim it: https://vimeo.com/user60967147

Probably not. The idea that the other universes contain alternate versions of Goku and co. doesn't fit very well with how the whole "12 universes" idea is actually presented in the movie or guidebooks. The idea is that all the stuff we've seen is set in the Seventh Universe and the other universes contain unknown potential new rivals for Goku, not alternate versions of the cast we already know.

Would be hilarious if the other universes were other Shonen Jump series.
