Go! Go! Ackman ties in with Dragon Ball?
So, Nostal/Treevax uploaded an interesting picture from the April '94 issue of V-Jump, where the page apparently links Toriyama's Go! Go! Ackman series with Dragon Ball? I can't read the Japanese of course, but that universe ball is pretty distinct. I'd find this interesting if that's what it is truly saying, because it didn't really seem like the series would fit with what we know of Dragon Ball's afterlife.

Re: Go! Go! Ackman ties in with Dragon Ball?
The page is a feature showcasing Toriyama's rough sketches for the early drafts of Go! Go! Ackman. Apparently Toriyama had a lot of trouble settling on things; the main character was originally going to be a father, and other titles like Go! Go! Satanman or Go! Go! Devil-sama were in the running.
The cosmic ball sketch is captioned "Ackman had this kind of [worldview (世界観)? It's pretty hard to make out]! Did you know?". There's no stated connection to DB. Except of course that it obviously is the same design for the DB cosmos Toriyama provided for the anime staff and ultimately included in all the guidebooks; you can even see the Serpent Road and the little planets for each Kaio. It seems like whoever put this page together for Jump didn't realize the connection themselves.
Frankly, I have to wonder if they mistakenly included a DB sketch with the Ackman stuff. I was also thinking that perhaps Toriyama came up with this cosmos design for Ackman initially, then recycled it for DB, but that wouldn't explain what the Serpent Road and Kaio's planet are doing in there. Obviously those aren't part of Ackman.

Hi guys! I was also very surprised to find the Dragon Universe sketch in this Ackman article, which is the reason why I scanned it even if it wasn't directly DB related.
Still, I remembered an interview of Akira Toriyama (or a french article quoting him), where he stated that all his stories are supposed to take place in his "Dragon World". Did I dream it? It may be in the french biography that was released 3 years ago. I'll check someday.

Yes! I knew I was right when I said Mars was inhabited by octopus creatures in the Dragon Universe!
Well, I remember back in the day magazines printed "interviews" with Toriyama which were obviously fake, so maybe you read one of those?Treevax wrote:Still, I remembered an interview of Akira Toriyama (or a french article quoting him), where he stated that all his stories are supposed to take place in his "Dragon World". I doubt everything made by AT exist in the DB universe. He likes to reuse character designs in his other work like Sand Land and the Dragon Quest video games. I find it funny how the DB wiki has Dabra being the same character in Sand Land. It proves how awful fan wikis are 95% of the time.

But...he doesn't even have the same name! He's called "Satan", right? They might as well claim he's Videl's uncle. I suppose they think the insect man is a prototype of Cell too.Hellspawn28 wrote:I find it funny how the DB wiki has Dabra being the same character in Sand Land.
...Anyway.
To reiterate, the Jump page doesn't actually say anything about DB and Ackman taking place in the same world. It just goes "look! Here's how the world of Ackman is set up!", and shows a sketch that looks exactly like Toriyama's sketch of the DB world. I'm not too sure what's going on, but if they were really trying to say Ackman and DB are in the same world, I think they'd be much more explicit about it, the way Jump tends to be. All the headlines are simply about these being rare Toriyama rough sketches.

I suppose he probably just reused the idea. Maybe he forgot these were published and thought no one would notice?
However, this makes me think. What if the 12 universes are all Toriyama works? Or maybe, just a few of them? Could be a neat thing to take advantage of. It also provides a weird reconciliation between the Dr, Slump crossover stuff.

Lots of mangaka reuse character designs, like the guy who did Rave and Fairy Tail.Hellspawn28 wrote:I doubt everything made by AT exist in the DB universe.
