How would you have done the Buu arc?
I dislike the Buu arc,I dislike Buu as a villan, Gotenks as a hero, the less than dark nature of the saga, Gohan getting shafted after being built up as the Hero, Piccolo doing nothing, etc.
However this is only my opnion and I have no problem with other opnions, to be honest in the anime I enjoyed everything in the Great Sayaiman arc, right up to when Vegeta sacrfices himself, but as soon as Buu takes the lead role in the story everything just becomes stupid.
So if you could, how would you change the Buu arc?

I would've made Majin Vegeta the main antagonist.
DBZ ended after the Frieza Saga.Goku wrote:You haven't figured it out yet? I'm the Saiyan who came all the way from Earth for the sole purpose of beating you. I am the warrior you've heard of in legends, pure of heart and awakened by fury. That's what I am. I AM THE SUPER SAIYAN, SON GOKU!

Re: How would you have done the Buu arc?
I think the final battle with Goku/Vegeta/Satan/good Boo vs pure Boo is pretty great, and the only real problem with the story arc is the rather nonsensical route it takes to get there. So I guess I'd want to do something to create a clearer path from Vegeta's self-destruction to that final battle. Maybe also make the way Gohan is built up and then abandoned while Goku is dragged back into the spotlight against his will all feel more like an intentional joke rather than just Toriyama being wishy-washy.

Re: How would you have done the Buu arc?
I would've not had Goku turn Super Saiyan 3 thereby creating the plothole that needed to be retconned by making him an ass for essentially allowing Buu to be released. No Gotenks, can't stand him. I would've liked the Z Team to all been part of the final fight, or at least Piccolo and Gohan. As for the wrap up, Goku doesn't abandon his family for someone we just met. Perhaps end right before the rubber match between Goku and Vegeta kinda like Rocky 3.

Re: How would you have done the Buu arc?
Id have it that Gohan is forced to fight and defeat Kid Buu in the end.
Seeing as Potara Fusion is meant to be permanent, it has a effect on Goku and Vegeta, leaving them with next to no energy. Their only option would be to give Gohan the last bit of their energy so he can fight Kid Buu.
After a hard battle, Gohan eventually comes out on top, Goku and Vegeta get their last moments to shine, and Gohan ends up the hero of the arc as he should have been.

I still don't see why Gohan should be the hero. Yeah it was initially set up that way but things often change for good reason, plus having Gohan finally become a scholar is a more fitting ending for him.KentalSSJ6 wrote:Id have it that Gohan is forced to fight and defeat Kid Buu in the end.

Re: How would you have done the Buu arc?
Well, I would get rid of Gray Buu. Instead, keep the events that created him, and have Fat Buu morph into Super Buu instead (in this version, Super Buu's strength is roughly equal to Fat Buu's, only he's a more intelligent and competent fighter). Everything proceeds as normal until Gotenks is formed. He never uses SSJ3, instead utilizing only the SSJ form, and his fight with Buu takes place somewhere on Earth, not in the Room of Space and Time.
Gohan's storyline remains the same, and he saves Goten and Trunks after their fusion wears off right as they are about to defeat Super Buu. This fight proceeds as it did in the manga, until Buu absorbs Gotenks and Piccolo again, and beats up on Gohan, and proceeds to try to absorb him. Gohan manages to put up a last minute barrier, like Vegetto did, and proceeds to free everyone in Buu's body. This results in Buu reverting back to Pure Buu (no South Kaioshin Buu in this situation), who would be, strength-wise, somewhere between Super Buu and Buutenks, and a bit stronger than Gohan.
Buu blows up the Earth, but Gohan and co, including Fat Buu, are saved at the last second by Goku, who broke the rules by teleporting to Earth while he was dead. They go to the Kaioshins' planet, and Goten, Trunks, and Piccolo wake up. Buu, who has learned how to teleport from watching Goku, follows them. Goku, drained from his actions, is unable to fight, and is taken by Kibito, Kaioshin, and the Old Kaioshin to some random planet to watch the fight, along with Dende, and Piccolo, forgetting Mr. Satan. The fight proceeds similarly to the manga, with Gotenks taking the place of Vegeta, and Gohan taking his father's place.
At one point, Buu goes after Mr. Satan, which awakens Fat Buu, who proceeds to fight as well. Fat Buu loses quickly, however, and Gotenks gets knocked out, and Gohan gets angry. Unlike in the past, however, he is in full control, with the maturity to do what is necessary, unlike his transformation at the Cell Games. He annihilates Buu with a Masenko (I always thought it was a better attack for him than the Kamehameha
), and Kibito brings everyone back to Namek.
Before this, however, Goku says goodbye to Gohan, and, since he has broken the rules by traveling to Earth while dead, he is unable to be wished back to life, ever. But, knowing that the Earth is in good hands, he is happy. They make the wishes on the Dragon Balls to restore everyone to life and bring back Earth, and later use the Earth Dragon Balls to make everyone forget about Buu. Keep the barbeque at Bulma's from the anime, because that was great
Cut to about 10 years later, Piccolo has been training the kids, and while Goten has been taking his training seriously, Trunks has somewhat slacked off. Gohan, who was willing to be the Earth's protector, but never really wanted to be, passes the torch to Goten, who has developed a personality much like Goku's. Throw in some sappy/funny ending stuff, and this is what I've got for the Buu Arc.

1- Have the fightes be longer
2- Have a few villians that the other z fighters can fight
3- Have a longer epilogue That shows how strong evryone has gotten

Re: How would you have done the Buu arc?
I always thought that the majority of the Z Warriors being killed directly by Buu, and staying dead, would have been a far more emotional and fitting ending to Z.
Instead of Buu killing them up at Kami's lookout, they are involved in the fight with Kid Buu.. basically the same thing that happened in the Cell Games, with all of them just doing the best they can to help Gohan or Goku defeat Buu. Goku watches all of them getting killed one at a time by Buu and in the end basically self destructs like Vegeta but his explosion has enough energy to take Buu out.
Mr Satan in the sole witness to the whole thing, but in an un-characteristic move, does not take credit for the win, and the Z Warriors are honored as heroes on earth.

Re: How would you have done the Buu arc?
I'd still have Goku beating Kid Buu with the Genki Dama, but I would have Gohan on the sacred world of the Kais with him (maybe Vegeta arrived on earth before Gohan and he got absorbed by Buu instead)
Goku is the main character, so I feel like it was right that he beat Buu to end the series. But most of the Z series was focused on Gohan and I think for him not to play a major role in the end was a bit of a let down

Re: How would you have done the Buu arc?
You mean the Genki Dama, Kid Buu, Goku and etc? Yes. At that point I would just make Vegeta elaborate on why he thinks that the Genki Dama is a good plan instead of bringing the kids there to fight, now that Goku failed to defeat Buu. Namely he would state that Buu has always come on top until now even agaisnt stronger opponents thanks to his tricks and his absorptions. Faced with stronger opponents yet again, there was no guarantee that he wouldn't find a way to absorb them, becoming again much more powerful. But he can't absorb a giant Genki Dama and the only way to kill him anyway is to destroy him completely with a ki attack so a Genki Dama seems adequate.ABED wrote:Including the ending?rereboy wrote:It would be the same, I would just explain the plotholes.
Oh, and I would make Kid Buu try to teleport away from the Genki Dama only to be stopped by a paralysis attack from Kibitoshin who had just managed to teleport over there a second before the Genki Dama hits (Kaioshin was able to freeze SSJ2 Gohan for a second despite being much weaker, so it stands to reason that Kibitoshin could freeze Kid Buu for a second).

Re: How would you have done the Buu arc?
Yes. I would just maybe explore a little more what the characters had been up to, have Goku say that Uub needs a lot of training to fulfill his potential, and make Goku say that he was going to talk to Uub's family to let them take him as his student (implying that he wasn't actually taking off for who knows how long). Also, I would make clear that Goku was also thinking of taking a more active role in Pan's training as she gets older. That way Dragon Ball ends with Goku becoming the master of a new generation, without actually leaving.ABED wrote:I was referring to the very end where Goku leaves with Uub.
Edit: also, instead of having that Vegeta panel from the Kanzenban, I would have Vegeta call out Goku when he was leaving with Uub and have him say something like "don't tell me that you are planning to skip on our fight again", to which Goku would reply something "you know, we don't actually need a tournament to settle the score, Vegeta", and then they would just stare at each other with a smirk on both of their faces before Goku left, establishing their current intense but more healthy and friendly rivalry.

I would've just had Gohan destory Buu. Gohan should've learned from fighting Cell to not mess around with his enemies.

Re: How would you have done the Buu arc?
I understand what you're saying but lets take Gogeta vs Janemba for an example. Very short fight, but got straight to the point. In the end Gogeta looked badass (in lack of a better term), Gohan vs Buu can have done the same thing, make it short but very impactful to where fans would be satisfied with it. Am I making any sense here?rereboy wrote:That would be completely unsatisfactory. The fans would be like "that's it? Its over...? Ok..."

Re: How would you have done the Buu arc?
I'll have to agree. It kinda worked for Gogeta because it was just the end of the movie, but it would have been horrible as the absolute, final battle against evil in the manga. You need some sort of actual struggle going on for the heroes to get you invested. Goku, Vegeta, Mister Buu and Mister Satan working together with everyone else for the Genki Dama was just much more satisfying.
