Gotta disagree. Destruction for destruction's sake is a goal. They were essentially nihilists. Its 17 and 18 that had no goals, they were evil because they just were. They didnt have a plan whatsoever, they just blew crap up for fun, even more mindlessly than Broly does.... there is no way they could pass as villains at all if they don't want anything.
What if Toriyama never created the Cell saga?

The biggest truths aren't original. The truth is ketchup. It's Jim Belushi. Its job isn't to blow our minds. It's to be within reach.

I can't see how it is. A goal has to have enough depth to progress someone from starting something or somewhere to ending with something gained. Being a nihlist means you literally have bo goals but pass the freetime unproductively to make laziness enjoyable. They themselves often complain about how "bored" they are killing people, thus they have no goals at all.ABED wrote:Gotta disagree. Destruction for destruction's sake is a goal. If that's all you want, then all you want is fanservice, rather than an actual coherent story. And of course those aren't mutually exclusive; you could have a coherent story with "shine" moments! But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.

Maybe goal is the wrong word, but nihilism is the belief that all values are meaningless. I can take numerous forms, it's not limited to laziness. A true nihilist wouldn't care about making laziness enjoyable. Destruction is a form of nihilism, the cyborgs hold nothing sacred. Why do they need something to be a villain? Of course the cyborgs are bored, they aren't creating something.SingleFringe&Sparks wrote:I can't see how it is. If the Cell saga was never made, the Buu saga would have turned out a lot differently to say the least.

My favourite saga is the Cell/Androids saga, I think if he never made it then the series wouldn't be as popular was it is now.
I love Dragon Ball Z, Super Vegito is a pro.

Dragon Ball Z would be without it's best saga.
Vegeta would be less badass.
Everyone would be a lot weaker.
Future Gohan and Trunks wouldn't exist.
Super Saiyan 2 wouldn't exist.
Goku would be alive.

Re: What if Toriyama never created the Cell saga?
Never understood some people saying Vegeta is 'badass' in the Artificial Human/Cell arc. Annoying is my choice of words.
If I had to say he was 'badass' it was during the Saiyan-Namek arcs.

It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.
Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.
