Is the Kenji Yamamoto score worth it?
Re: Is the Kenji Yamamoto score worth it?
Only for the music placement. Since the UK broadcast didn't start until January 2013, we had the Kikuchi score the whole way through and for the most part, I didn't mind it. It wasn't until the Cell arc where I realised that Toei had basically stuck four Kikuchi songs in a loop and I wondered how they could have screwed up so badly given how many songs Kikuchi composed for DBZ.
Also, was The Lone Warrior composed by Yamamoto? That actually made it into the UK broadcast, but Super Dragon Soul and Saiyan Blood didn't.

Lone Warrior was NOT composed by Yammaoto. Glady since I love that bgm.

For the love of Kami, please PM me where you found those.samuraix123 wrote:Luckily I found a place to download the remaining episodes with English and Yamamoto.

I have to say, I just bought parts 1-4 of kai with yamamoto and I think it is totally worth it. The music makes everything more epic, especially during when Goku fights Vegeta. Unfortunately you can't get the rest with yamamoto, but the kikuchi score for the rest of the series works IMO

Probably because that's all they could afford to give him royalties for (or were tight enough to pay for) having been forced to cut their losses and ditch Yamamoto's score.Weejus wrote:I realised that Toei had basically stuck four Kikuchi songs in a loop.
As I mentioned earlier, Yamamoto's score was a large and polished production. It certainly wasn't cheap, although in terms of salary and royalty agreements, it's probable that Yamamoto got a significantly unfavorable deal in comparison to what Kikuchi got when he was scoring the series. Kikuchi was very handsomely paid for his work his work on Dragonball.

Weird super dragon soul isn't a yamamoto product its still there but the lyrics were stripped from the track in the kikuchi dvdsWeejus wrote:Only for the music placement. Are you sure you're not confusing with the Toonzai airing? (Toonzai airings stripped off all Japanese lyrics)Naruto6583 wrote:Weird super dragon soul isn't a yamamoto product its still there but the lyrics were stripped from the track in the kikuchi dvdsWeejus wrote:Only for the music placement. True......but maybe the term "Japanese dub" is vaguely applicable if we're specifically talking about Kai? Since it's essentially the exact same animation, re-used, and there already was an "original" Japanese audio track recorded that they're now recording over?AgitoZ wrote:The only problem with calling the original Japanese a "dub" is that it's usually not called that because of how it was made. It's usually called a "dub" because people want to put it on the same level as any other dub.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

I wonder if Yamamoto career is dead after what he pulled... does he still get work? Honestly i'm kinda pissed with him because i liked Kai with a new score.
Thankfully i love Kikuchi too.

I directly contacted him and he said that he's refraining voluntarily from composition. He still does arrangement for Kageyama's non-DB-related songs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnVOHaeV-rcFlame Dragon wrote:I wonder if Yamamoto career is dead after what he pulled... does he still get work? I'm pretty sure the Hong Kong release has the Kenji Yamamoto score... But it's a pain to read chinese.

To be perfectly honest, I couldn't care less about the fans a re-issue might alienate because if all they're concerned about is being able to scalp the people who were either unaware of the Dragon Boxes or couldn't afford them at the time, they're just leeches and deserve to have their greed backfire on them.
