How good is Colleen Clinkenbeard as SSJ2 Gohan in Kai

Post by JEFFMAN219 » Tue Jan 21, 2014 12:07 am

Hey guys in your opinion how well did Colleen Clinkenbeard do Gohans voice during the Cell Games Saga? Is she better then the old voice actress for Gohan?

I think she did a fine job with Gohan and is one of the best female voice actresses around right now. She can convey a ton of emotion and personality into her roles and has quite a large vocal range.

As Gohan got older, I think she handled it better, as opposed to Nadonly (who I do still like) who made Gohan sound the same the entirety of his youth. When Gohan was in the Saiyan arc, Clickenbeard's voice was very annoying. Of course I can't not hear Luffy as she does the Cell Arc Gohan voice, it's virtually the same.

She was great, but I'm sure if Stephanie Nadolny was directed to make Gohan sound younger in the earlier arcs and older as time went by, like Clinkenbeard was, she would have been great as well. Not too long ago Stephanie Nadolny pretty much used her kid Goku/Gohan voice to use for a character named KO in a cartoon pilot called Lakewood Plaza Turbo and she sounded better than ever.

I just wanted to know how she was because I plan on getting Dragon Ball Z Kai Season 4 on blu-ray sometime this week.

The only issue I've ever had with Clinkenbeard is that sometimes her voice is a tad shrill during screams. It's never enough to really bother me much, and her delivery is much better than Nadolny's, which more than offsets that minor gripe for me. Even Nozawa can get a tad grating every once in a great while.

I guess you can see Colleen got "too" age accurate? I mean Gohan IS 4-5 from Raditz to Freeza. We all sounded abit high pitched and girly at that age.

It's not that she's "girly", just that some of the screams are a little raspy, which makes her voice a tad shill.

Not that big of a complaint from me, but my sister can't stand that aspect of her voice. I still think it's a very good performance.

I'm not a fan of Clinkenbeard's work, either as Gohan in Kai or Luffy in One Piece. I prefer Nadolny's Gohan, both in that I better rate her depiction and find her voice less irritating.

I guess a lot of people dislike Nadolny on the basis that she can seem pretty one dimensional in that she didn't really do anything different with Kid Goku than she did with Kid Gohan, which I guess is a fair point - but it's worth pointing out that in this context she's up against Nozawa, who is the comprehensive Son-family seiyu, and not someone that many could compare favorably against in this regard!

Colleen is great but there are times where it's more feminine than it should be and even a tad too deep for a 4 or 5 year old, but she was by and large a breath of fresh air. I really didn't like Nadolny as Gohan, and as Goku even less. That rasp was unbearable when she cried, and the Krusty laugh *shudder*.

My favorite English voice for Gohan is still Saffron Henderson.

Better but still don't like it nearly as much as Saffron Henderson.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

One of the negative aspects of the English Kai dub is Clinkenbeard's voice acting for Gohan, Kid Goku and #18, she made them sound like teen college girls with an annoying high pitched vocal, plus her screams weren't just impressive or comparable to how great Masako did them.

I'd rather listen to Nadolny as Teen Gohan and Henderson for Kid Gohan on English dubs.

If anything, Gohan's voice was a little too deep for a 4/5 year old. Her 18 took some getting used to, but it is reminiscent of the Japanese actress.

Nadolny is too raspy, Colleen's voice is much smoother.

And Gohan isn't a teen until the Buu arc, just FYI.

The title "Teen Gohan" is applied on the games and most people know what I mean when he's referred as such.

Clinken's voice is smooth but that's not necessarily a good thing when she sounds so girly and high pitched.

Well, boys under 10 do sound high pitched and almost the same as girls of the same ages.

My nephews don't and I've heard plenty of kids under 10 while working at a Nintendo booth and none of them had high pitched vocals.

I've seen people reusing that excuse to defend Clinkenbeard which is sad.

My cousin once removed is four, and he has a high pitched voice.

It's not an excuse, it's a fact of life. Male children have high voices.

Hmm a lot of people seem to not like Colleen Clinkenbeards voice acting for Gohan during the Cell Games saga

Some, but even in this thread there're more people who like it.

It's not perfect, but overall it's still what I'd say is the best we've gotten. I think Saffron Henderson's voice was better, but Clinkenbeard's acting is much better.

I think Colleen Clinkenbeard is terrible as all ages of Gohan but especially as SS2 Gohan. She sounds so feminine that it makes the scenes completely unbelievable. More specifically, Masako Nozawa's Gohan definitely had a high pitched voice but it sounded masculine like how she owns the part of Goku. Same with Stephanie Nadolny who sounded to me like Simba from the Lion King. Both those voice actress made Gohan sound like a bad ass when he was supposed to be one, they sounded tough.

Clinkenbeard's Gohan sounds like a girl, always, all her scenes are pretty much unwatchable for me. I also find her terrible because when Goku's coaching Gohan against Cell via Kaio there just seems to be no father son chemistry between Schemmel and Clinkenbeard like there was when Schemmel and Nadolny did the scene. Colleen Clinkenbeard
