When did super saiyans stop being special to you? Did they?
Re: When did super saiyans stop being special to you? Did th
Gotenks kind of ruined Super Saiyan 3 for me to be honest, and Super Saiyan god just sounded like a gimmick.

I gotta be honest with you, I don't even regard the God form as being a 'Super Saiyan' per say.Barunks wrote:Gotenks kind of ruined Super Saiyan 3 for me to be honest, and Super Saiyan god just sounded like a gimmick.
And that's not because I don't like the idea of it (which in honesty I don't) but because the mechanics behind it feel pretty detached from the established Super Saiyan logic, and that's messed up by anyone's standards if you consider Super Saiyan 4 to be a part of that.

Not sure on this. I'd probably say after the Cell arc, when the number of people doing it hit critical mass. The best moment it was ever used for was Trunks after discovering Gohan's corpse in the future.
Kaio-ken impresses me more nowadays, because it was more complicated than just being more powerful. The weight of bodily damage versus necessary power gain was just so interesting to me.
I've also grown more fond of the false Super Saiyan in Movie 4 over time, even if the rest of the film is weak. That scene convey's a very frightening/berserk type of power. It was cool.

Around when everybody started getting it. Super Saiyan 2 Bardock, is all that I will say. I understand giving him Super Saiyan, but after that, eh. Not so much.

I don't understand even giving him Super Saiyan. The character was the centerpiece of one the best pieces of story/animation the series ever got, how is that not enough? Is it necessary to make a character more powerful in order for them to be popular?SSJ4 Furanki wrote:Around when everybody started getting it. Super Saiyan 2 Bardock, is all that I will say. I guess so. I, like you, would prefer he not even get Super Saiyan. But, it doesn't bother me that he has it. Giving him anything above seems completely ridiculous. But, I guess the tie in for Heroes will probably just result in him eventually getting Super Saiyan 3, 4 or even God.Duo wrote:I don't understand even giving him Super Saiyan. Team Four Star kinda summed it up pretty well.
"And so, with a macabre flash of blinding light, the howling laugh of a blood-parched tyrant echoing through his mind, so ends the tragic fate of Bardock...or so you'd think, if you didn't know a thing about MERCHANDISING."

The thing that's possibly even more irritating about it is the fact his design isn't new or interesting. It's Goku with a face scar wearing Saiyan armor.SSJ4 Furanki wrote:I guess so. How about a Super Saiyan God transformation for Cell? Now that would be something different.
Edit: or Majin Buu with Beerus absorbed. Screw logistics, that would look trippy as heck. I've got no fixation left on the various Super Saiyan stages, not sure why the fanbase cares to see Trunks and Broli as Super Saiyan 3's.

I would love to see those suggestions become reality. I designed a Boorus myself a copule of months ago and before a Yi Xing Long absorption. I would love to see more what-if characters in games like the Tencha fusion and custom absorptions.

I loved Budokai 2 for all the what-ifs. Tencha, Buuza, Buugeta, colored Saiba Rangers, Majin Cell, freaking Gokule. Super Saiyan forms are mega boring in comparison. I'd also like to see the other forms of Cooler, or a fifth form for Freeza.

Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

I just can't get over the impossibility of that guy existing. He's a living violation of every fusion rule.
But yeah, I think the Super Saiyan forms are boring and the games should focus on more interesting what-ifs. Budokai 2 had a lot of good ones; what-if absorptions, what-if Majins, what-if fusion, and more.

James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.
