As I recall, the Viz translation of that title page is perfectly fine except that in Japanese they specify that "good" energy is absorbed by the ship and gathered in Boo's ball, while in Viz it just says "energy".

Wait... what does it mean be "good" energy? Energy of a high quality or energy from good people? Because the second would mean that Babidi can only get the energy from the heroes and not his own men.

It's 善のエネルギー/zen no enerugii. 善/zen means "good" in the sense of morally good; it's the word used for "good Boo" in contrast to the evil/pure/pure evil ones, for instance. So yeah, presumably the energy from Babidi's underlings doesn't go to Boo.

Interesting! Well, that clears up one rather large potential plot hole. Thanks very much.

This also means that Kaioshin and Kibito are clearly evil!! Or maybe it's just meant to be that they're neutral.

I thought that message was made pretty clear, Dabra punches Gohan *energy is transferred*, Gohan punches Dabra *nothing happens*.

However this does bring up a question about Kaioshin and Kibito but I guess it's a "God Ki" thing.

Yeah, but then people asked the question of "why doesn't Babidi just have his minions beat each other up" but this seems to make it clear he needed good energy for the revival.

herms can translate this here: is something very interesting, and explains how whis and bills can cross the after life and as can quit.

Hi I was wondering if anyone could translate or knows what this caption says about Goku's encounter with a Star on his way to Namek. This picture comes from Chozenshu 2 if that helps.
Image The absurdity of this filler has gotten me really interested so I just want to know for my own edification what that caption says. My interest over this scene was sparked mainly because I am trying to do a ball park analysis of the distance between Earth and Namek based on the Dragon Ball Manga and Jaco.
"You might think you know everything there is to know about me, but really, you're not even CLOSE."

"Never give in--never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy." ~ Sir Winston Chruchill / Dragon Ball Z in a nutshell

How I enjoy the anime:

Would it be possible to get a translation of Freeza's dialouge? I'm almost sure this is the dialouge that got replaced by the laughing in the anime. I transcribed it from my Full Color No.5. Don't have it the manga in English. It's right before Freeza kills Kurilin.

Or if someone can post the Viz equivalent that works too.

Here's the manga panel I was referencing in case anyone has the Viz version:

Here's the original from the Strength Checker:
Even having taken this damage, there’s still no way I’ll be done-in by the likes of you!”
The Viz line:
I am still more than a match for all of you!!!!"
Hope that helps.

This right here pretty much settles the issue about Freeza being weaker due to the damage he took.

Rats, that should probably be more like "there's no way I couldn't take down/do-in the likes of you [guys]". Ie "I can beat you" rather than "you can't beat me".

Ah, thanks for the further clarification! Originally asked since I wanted to put the manga dialouge back into the anime in a fandub.

So, fun fact for the day here: わけはない in Freeza's line is a variant of わけがない/wake ga nai, which depending on the context can mean that something is either a) completely impossible, or b) incredibly easy.

Yeah.

Here it's the "easy" one: "even though I'm damaged, I can still easily beat you guys!" There's that implied contrast between the first part of the sentence ("even though I'm damaged") and the second half, so the "impossible" meaning doesn't fit. "Even though I'm damaged, it's still impossible for me to defeat you guys" makes no sense for a few reasons, such as implying Freeza would have a harder time beating them if he weren't damaged.

Anyway, when I did that sentence for the Strength Checker, I must have not paid enough attention to the verb and so misread the conjugation as passive, turning "I can easily defeat you" into "I cannot possibly be defeated by you". Which I guess in the end is sort of the same thing said another way, really, but at any rate I apologize.

I was rooting around old SEG pictures for whatever reason, when I noticed something I hadn't before.
I couldn't for the life of me find any translations of the minor text for the images in question, and my japanese is both far too rusty and was never complete enough to really have more than a very tenuous grasp of what's being said. Unfortunately the fairly low resolution prevents me from cheating with the furigana and going to Google Translate. =P

Image

In particular I'm interested in what is being said by Goku's weight training section. The most I can really "2 tons", "training!" and what is really catching my interest which is what looks like "100倍の重力" which I know for certain is "100 times gravity" but I don't know why it's saying that or even if it is for sure.

I guess I'm also kind of curious about what's being said in the boxes above it. I imagine it's just saying he's training in heaven because Cell blew up Kaio's planet, but anything else it says would be nice to know. I can't for the life of me make anything out (though I doubt it would help me much if I could).

EDIT: Not interested in the Freeza blurb anymore, I'm like 99% sure it's just saying something about how Super Saiyan only appears once every 1000 years and it's a legendary warrior and stuff.

Lastly and least importantly I'm curious what it says here
Image
It's from the training section like the others, under the SSJG3 where it says TRANSFORM!!!
I'm pretty sure it says something along the lines of it not being balanced, but the numerical usage of 2 makes me curious what exactly is being said here.

Thank you in advance for anyone who helps with this.

Chapter: 515 (DBZ 321), P1.1
Context: after Gohan and co. contribute their genki to the Genki-Dama
Goku: “Hey, even this probably isn’t enough to wipe out Boo! What are they doing?! Hardly anyone but our friends is sending us ki!”

I want to ask, is it possible that the quote in mistranslated? Does Goku really say that it's probably not enough? Because that would imply that Gohan's & co.'s power is the majority of the Genki Dama, but it doesn't make sense, because Gohan and everyone seem relaxed. If power was really a factor in genki, shouldn't everyone power up to send even more power, and shouldn't Goten & Trunks at least turn Super Saiyans, not to mention Gotenks?
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.
