Favorite Sound Effect?
Re: Favorite Sound Effect?
The high-pitched "burst" sound that is made when someone uses a lower-energy ki attack. I think it was used in later seasons, and altogether removed from some dubs if I recall correctly.

Another one I really like besides the squeaky footsteps might be Ocean dub exclusive. When Butta shoots a blast at Goku out of frustration/trying to scare him, he does this sorta light reptilian roar, it's pretty badass.
It's not too late. One day, it will be.

From the show? That elongated siren-esque sound that plays every time after a huge explosion, usually in a really quiet scene.

Best example of it I can find on a whim.
In general? Movie 12's sound design as a whole. Every sound Janemba makes has this really cool sounding synthesized effect. Like his teleportation sound and especially the sword

And this is more of a stock sound effect but I've always loved how Gogeta's kick used Mega Man X4's buster charge sound effect (Even though movie 12 predates that game by several years, it's just what I assosiate the sound with)

I actually did like a lot of the cartoony extra sound effects they adde to their Dub, made the show a bit Funnier.goku the krump dancer wrote:Another one I really like besides the squeaky footsteps might be Ocean dub exclusive. If that's all you want, then all you want is fanservice, rather than an actual coherent story. And of course those aren't mutually exclusive; you could have a coherent story with "shine" moments! But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.

That's my favorite as well, but I REALLY love it when it's preceded by that "suspenseful build-up" sound. You know the one, that tinny, "oh crap they're about to reveal something horrifying" noise that gets gradually louder. I took a quick look through some of the sound effects videos on YouTube but couldn't find it, so I hope you guys know what I'm talking about.thatdbzguy wrote:The "Oh Shit!" sound effect that plays whenever a character gets surprised or comes to some kind of startling realization.
Anyway, the combination of those two sounds happens in Episode 147 of the original DragonBall, after Goku slams Piccolo with a great big Kamehameha. Goku lands back on the ground and takes a small breath, then after a couple of crowd reaction shots, the camera slowly pulls back to reveal the giant crater Goku's made (accompanied by the "build-up" sound), and then we get a scrolling close-up of Piccolo lying unconscious in the crater with his mouth hanging open (accompanied by the "payoff shock" sound).
The impact the audio here (when combined with the visuals) has on the audience is simply jaw-dropping, especially when you consider that the moment in question comes right after a VERY silent few seconds.
BGM forever! If only more people paid attention to it... well, I intend to change that.

Very close, but that's not quite it. The sound I'm thinking of is a little longer and has a "tinny" noise backing it up, almost like someone's rattling a hi-hat on a set of drums.kei17 wrote:Do you mean this sound? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-ITdULh9Xw
Here, I've uploaded both sound effects from the scene in ep. 147: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkOYSo9nztU

Re: Favorite Sound Effect?
It has to be the Super Saiyan aura sound, there's just something about it that makes it sound so powerful.
