Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

I'm open to ideas, but I have none left. Systematically breaking down the blatant lies in FUNimation's marketing - and focusing on the fact that you were being lied to - for the orange bricks didn't work. Explaining how you're losing more image than you're gaining didn't work. Explaining how grain is an inherent part of the image didn't work. Explaining the technical aspects of digital video encoding didn't work.
I was thinking. Perhaps there should be some kind of page on the site talking about aspect ratio. I mean, maybe it wasn't
that relevant when the site started (and re-started) up, but now with the DVD\Blu-ray season sets, DragonBall Kai and to a lesser extent the DragonBox movies splitting the community and confusing casual fans - maybe a aspect ratio explanation would help? Just something we can link people to when this comes up?
Of course it's easy to suggest a page when I'm not doing any of the work.

It's funny - we kinda had the reverse aspect ratio answer
over in the "Rumor Guide" regarding the movies when they came out as 4:3 from FUNimation and cropped on the Dragon Boxes. As I've been going through doing some updates on it, I've been considering adding a little section more-specifically addressing the TV version.

It's more the SETUP of gear rather than the actual Aspect Ratio causing problems. People having their 16x9 TV set on 4:3, or their 4:3 TV set on 16x9.. likewise with the player too, as they also have an aspect ratio output setting.
This is probably the most basic and well explained Aspect Ratio page:

The setup is a big part of it too. But if people fully understood what was going on with the accept ratio, they'd better understand how to setup their TV's. I think it goes hand in hand.

I didn't get that full screen movies were pan and scan until my sister pointed it out to me that it was cropped. I then looked at a full screen version of my James Bond DVD and I saw how much pan and scan removed in terms of picture. The James Bond releases at the time had pictures of widescreen and fullscreen versions. I was around 10 when I figured that all out.
Now, it frustrates me when ADULTS cannot understand the concept of aspect ratios especially after it being explained to them. I mean, is it just apathy of not wanting to bother to figure out something so simple? I mean, we people go to school to learn to analyse and critically think, even read! Honestly, what was the point to learn to do all of that if in everyday circumstances if people cannot be bothered to use those skills to answer simple questions?
I really don't want to sound bitter or hateful, but it happens so often--and it is not a difficult concept to grasp considering that people cannot live without technology these days. And many of these people grew up with TV and computer monitors with a 4:3 aspect ratio and into the transition of using 16:9 aspect ratio sets.
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada
