From SGT Frog/Keroro Gunso episode 33. I'll upload the bigger and higher quality versions of these when PhotoBucket's working again. If I wasn't supposed to double post like I did, then I apologize.

Great one Magica! I've never seen that one before. And does anybody remember the Sonic The Hedgehog TV series? At the end of the first, so called, season you see Sonic turning gold. With a power halo and all stuff that matches a super saiyan transformation. That makes it look like they've stolen ideas from Akira..

That Keroro parody is more SF than DB parody. Of course the Shinkuu Hadouken is probably based of Kamehameha, but I think that the idea of the scene is more based on SF (hence the Shinkuu in the name) than DB. An indirect reference to DB at the most.

SF is Street fighter, right? I know that Keroro Gunsou was made by Sunrise, so they make a lot of Gundam (Gunpla) parodies in their show. Keroro makes Gundam/Gunpla models.

Haha, oh yes I remember that, that was indeed hysterical. Reboot, ahh Reboot, WHY'D YOU LEAVE US ALL WITH THAT GODDAMNED CLIFFHANGER ENDING!

I'm not sure if this is a reference to Dragonball, or Journey To The West. Anyway, here goes... :P

In the game Soul Calibur 2, the character named Kilik has a weapon that looks just like Goku's Nyoibo; it extends longer than his other weapons, is completely red, and is described as "legendary". You can find it at the end of his weapon selection menu (when you select him). You've gotta buy the weapon first, though. I'm pretty sure that it's called the Jingu Staff. Or something.

Here's a picture of Kilik, but he's not holding the Jingu Staff.

I think Kilik is more or less based on Sun Wu-kung/Son Goku. He even has the same (Japanese) voice actor as Goku in the Saiyuki anime.^^

Man...

I was reading a book (trying to get away from Dragonball for once), then on chapter 4... the characters start talking about Dragonball Z on the Gameboy! Then, I come back to DaizenshuuEX. And my study gets disrupted.

Here's the link:
http://www.sparknotes.com/satfiction/bu ... ion15.html

The book's quite interesting, and it's about a girl going undercover to investigate drugs usage in a private school. The author of this book must like Dragonball. :D
preface wrote:Kim Stratford has her eye on two different guys—but that's not her real problem. She's actually an undercover cop trying to bust a high school drug ring. Will she give her impetuous heart to the dealer she's supposed to catch? Or will she pick the right guy—and risk losing him when he finds out she's a narc?
The book is intended to teach you new words and stuff. :P

EDIT: For Christian to be as mad as that, he must've been playing Taiketsu.

Yeah. It's from the video game, Sonic the Hedgehog 2. And about that, SONIC Team references DBZ as well as Star Wars (Death Egg) and some other stuff in later games. Shadow the Hedgehog can also complete the transformation as well. Sonic Adventure 2 (and Sonic X episode 38) show them featured like a Super Saiyan duo

And in Sonic Advance 3, Super Sonic has a team attack extremely similar to the Kamehameha.

The biggest NON-reference

With as big as phenomenon as DBZ was back in the day, I'm surprised it was never picked up by The Simpsons in any sort of reference. (Though there have been references aplenty to anime in general.) That show makes fun of everybody, so I guess it just strikes me as odd that the writers never took a potshot at our favorite show.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Not in the show, but I remember a few years back an issue of Simpsons comics had lampooned DBZ, Pokemon, and other anime. Probably Sailor Moon but I don't remember exactly.

I think I remember seeing this in one of the Simpsons comic books at the library.

There's this new reality show where you're in a contest to become your own superhero (that is, get your own comicbook written about you by the same guy who wrote Spiderman.) It's on the SciFi channel, but I forget what it's called. Anyway, though this isn't really a DB reference, there's a woman with a staff and a furry outfit who calls herself "Monkey Woman," and she makes monkey noises.

There was also a Bobobo villian with a scouter on last Saturday, and he actually used it like a scouter! (Though it works differently than the standard DBZ scouter. :? ) I actually have pictures of the item, but none of through the scouter. (My camera takes a while to actually take a picture, so I missed all opportunities to do so. )

Um. Pictures later! :P
What's scarier than a DBZ H-game?

Also I just noticed in YYH when Yusuke gets that orb from Genkai, it's similar to when Goku drinks the Super Water of the Gods, with both nearly killing them but drawing out hidden power and making them stronger.

I know that one, I have it.

And I can't believe no one's mentioned Eskimo bob episode 13: The Wrath of the penguin.

Also in episode 26: return of the Girl, there's one tiny part where Alfonzo goes super saiyan... but the whole episode is mainly a parody of Transformers the movie.

Edit: for some reason the links don't go directly to the episodes, so just click on bob, then go to episodes and scroll to look for the ones mentioned... or any others you feel like watching I guess.

This one isn't a show, but I'll post it anyway...

The Marines in the first Halo game have a green Scouter-like eyepiece that has yellow, polygonal, undecipherable text and symbols scrolling across it. You can't see the text in this screenshot, but it's there close up in-game...

AT (apparently) said that Dragon Ball wouldn't exist without Jackie Chan's 'Zui Quan' (Drunken Master). He got inspiration from that movie, of course.

In one fight scene of Jackie Chan's Drunken Master II (1994) (AKA Legend of Drunken Master (2000) (U.S.)) Wong Fei Hung (Chan) takes a form he calls "monkey drinks master's wine" which bares resemblances to and shares a simliar name with the Drunken Monkey forms "The Monkey King Stealing Wine", "The Monkey King Drinking Wine" and "The Monkey King Becoming Drunk."

Not really a reference, but interesting. Goku DOES use the Drunken Monkey form against Jackie Chun. Funny thing...in the aired FUNi dub it's called the "Mad Cow" technique. I remember all the pictures of cows in the background covering up bottles and stuff. Ha ha.
