A story doesn't need to have only depth to be enjoyed. Needs good execution, charm, good worldbuilding, nice morals, compelling characters, interesting lore etc.
Also there isn't a fixed way to writing. Otherwise, every "deep book" or "deep comic" you are so proud of would be EXACTLY THE SAME.
