I thought GT portion of Db was discontinued at Burst Imits.

Budokai 3 or Boo's Fury.... Ah, 2004 where Dragonball games hit their peak IMO- though I like BT3.
Because of the 8000 characters the game was going to have?

I do enjoy playing Tenkaichi 3 / RB2 / TTT but admittedly they all just feel replicas of the same character. It doesn't feel any different but it's fun nevertheless.

This is what I hate about Tenkaichi fans they care more about quantity than actually quality in a game. You don't see other fighting games' fans making unreasonable demands. SF has a balanced number of characters which doesn't even need surpass 100 characters but SF is a hardcore fighting game and Tenkaichi doesn't even come close.
Quantity can be quality, it's all subjective. Thankfully the Tenkaichi games do have a lot of quality IMO... but I do agree the characters do play similar but not 100% the same- maybe 75%. I want to have fun first and foremost- even the first Tenkaichi game had me excited because it captured the feeling of DBZ. I also don't care if it isn't a hardcore fighting game- I'll play IW if I want a DBZ game with depth but Tenkaichi for fun. I do agree that the BT games could be improved on much more.
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.

Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

I'm gonna have to give it to Budokai/Z3. Before it came out, I was pretty satisfied with B2, and thought it was hard to top that. Then in a local Fnac, I came across the vocal intro being played on several screen. The thing about that specific Dragon Ball game intros, in addition to just having excitement pouring out of it, is its way of artfully telling you what is new to the game without having to do it like UB22 did, fitting battles into it with a catchy and dynamic Kageyama song. The first thing I noticed was that glimpse of Uub in the begining, then Meta-Cooler, then Gogeta and Broly, and just when you thought you saw everything the game has to offer, you see Goku going through all the SSJ transformation, including SSJ4, and flying towards a shadow-clad Super Yi Xing-Long. That's pretty much why I've never been more hyped for any other game. Well, that, and age makes you less impressionable.

Each side had it's own merits. I think the third Sparking! entry feels like it had a bit more depth and variety to the melee combat, but Raging Blast 2 feels like it has more variety overall with the Follow-up System, increased number of Super Attacks, the extra defense mechanics (Super Deflection), etc.

That's why when Sparking! OMEGA was announced, I was thoroughly excited. I thought they might have not only added more characters to the already impressive Sparking! Meteor roster, but that they may have gone back and reworked the combat system to include some of the idea's that worked from Raging Blast 2 and Ultimate Blast. Toss in the new characters that debuted in those games, add in the increased number of Super Attacks, tweak Blast Stocks to help limit Ultimate Attack usage, change the Sonic Sway to being manual instead of automatic, implement the Crash and Deflection mechanics, remove the character class wall effects that prevents flinching, etc.

Too bad it was all a lie....
I feel your pain man lol.. but yeah the part that I bolded was what I was referring to when I said had BT3 had bit more to it in the fighting department. Just the raw melee. I know good and well that RB2 trumps its predecessor in every other aspect of the fighting especially with the Super Attacks.

Also a fighting game is fighting game no matter the set up. Smash Bros is just as much of a fighting game as Street Fighter and Tekken same goes for Naruto Ninja Storm and Spike's DBZ games. Sure they may try to "simulate" the show but they still follow the basic rules of a fighting game.
It's not too late. One day, it will be.

Budokai 3 and Tenkaichi 1 definitely had me the most hyped. I remember getting Budokai 3 a day early and rushing round to my friends house to play it. I even remember having a dream about getting one of the Dragonball games early, can't remember if it was Budokai 3 or Tenkaichi 1, but I had completely different ideas for the menus in my head.

Also Burst Limit, although not as hyped for it, I still bought a PS3 just for Burst Limit. I remember buying a PS2 just because my friend told me about Budokai 2!
DragonFlick Z 2.0 in the works.. if you are a Dragonball Youtuber, feel free to get in touch.

Budokai 3 and Tenkaichi 2. Especially the first one.
Still my favourite DBZ game.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Budokai 3 ... for Gamecube :( We waited so long but it never happened! Thankfully us Nintendo fans still got Tenkaichi 2 and 3, which I was also incredibly hyped for and ended up enjoying a lot.
Usually goes by "Kevtrev" elsewhere online.
Draws comics that may or may not have been blatantly inspired by Akira Toriyama's manga.

Tenkaichi 2 and 3. I liked those long trailers they did with all the characters and sagas. They rarely do those now in dbz games. I remember waiting each week to see the characters update in the Sparking Meteor website.

Budokai 3...AF! I'm actually playing the one with SSj God Goku, SSj5 Vegeta-Goku...it's called Budokai AF:Dark Saiyan...basically is the normal Budokai 3 with some AF touch here and there...like SSj5 for example...then you got also GT Vegeta from Infinite World, or SSj God Goku...very fun! ...and I'm also playing for the 1st time Budokai 3 AF HD by PGV, the "classic" AF one just went out with some restyling...just because i was curious about the AF story mode... :D

I posted here already, but thinking back now, as a kid I really wanted the Legacy of Goku after I saw the first commercial. I lost my mind! Budokai 1 was a close second.

Budokai 3. At the time I was only getting it because it was Budokai 3 and I loved the first two. What got me hooked however was SSJ4. I didnt see GT yet at the time so I had no idea about it and when the intro showed Goku going into SSJ4 I was all "WTF is that?!"

It was dropped within coincidence with Buu but I know Burst limit was planned to have a sequel by its set up.
Spike only discontinued it.
GT shouldn't be discontinued, the characters are still worth the playability. They should just move it into the "special-saga"
Zephyr wrote:The fandom's collective fetishizing of "moments" is also ridiculous to me. No, not everyone needs a fucking "shine" moment. If that's all you want, then all you want is fanservice, rather than an actual coherent story. And of course those aren't mutually exclusive; you could have a coherent story with "shine" moments! But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.

I must admit Burst Limit's trailers had me too pumped for my own good. The music just screamed "BEST DBZ GAME EVER" Sadly, it was not XD

Ultimate tenkaichi! seriously i thought that it was going to be like raging blast 2 with lots and lots of characters like BT3 but instead we get quick time galore with lesser characters than Raging blast 2.. that freaking sucks.

This, but a bit different.

I had no idea what SSJ4 or GT was (and I hadn't seen any DBZ on TV past snippets of the Cell Saga. I learned a lot about DBZ's story from Budokai 1), and my first exposure to it was a gameplay video on ign. I saw Goku and Vegeta turn into SSJ4s inside Buu's body and my mind was completely blown; I thought everything about the video was too awesome; the stage I didn't recognize, the music, the gameplay, the characters, those forms...

To date, Budokai 3 is probably why I still love SSJ4 so much. That and Infinite World are still the best DBZ games in my opinion, though Infinite World does lose points for needlessly cutting easily transferable content like Uub and Kid Goku, and weird things like everybody getting a Super Kamehameha ultimate except Goku, who invented the Super Kamehameha. >.>
I also think they should have found a way to make things like Final Flash and Warp Kamehameha into ultimates (since several characters could select more than one anyway) instead of being cut entirely despite Dragon Rush being gone, but that's getting off topic.

After Budokai 3 was definitely Tenkaichi 2. I would have probably been hyped for BT1, but I didn't know it was being developed until it came out, and like many I thought it was actually related to the Budokai series, which had won me over from the start.

Probably Burst Limit. I was never a big fan of the Tenkaichi series, so that was the last game I was excited about.

Battle of Z. Honestly I didn't really care about the games until then. Sure I played some over time but I never was excited for it.
